actually its discouraging. The ease of execution and sped up footage belies the years of study and trial it takes to get this good. Fantastic.
Thanks for having an appreciation for the effort Mark. :)
Awesome 👏
I waited for your video! Thank you for sharing a good video 👍👏👏👏🔥
Thanks!
Is the stump you're using rounded at the end, instead of being pointy?
I've just realised that maybe it's actually a brush...?
Yes, I use a brush to brush across the drawing if that's what your seeing. I do use a stump too (the normal pointy kind). I thought you were seeing the bigger charcoal stick in the thumbnail and thought it was a stump for a moment.
What a spectacular masterpiece!!!...
This is a amazing creation!
Very detailed presentation!
Great techniques!
Awesome display of perfection!
Absolutely love it!
Keep up the good work!
Thank you for sharing!!!... 👍+🔔
Thank you Milly!
What’s the best sketchbook?
For this look, would it be better to use regular drawing paper or charcoal paper?
This one was done on relatively smooth drawing paper, but I like textured paper sometimes too. Just a matter of preference, really. Thanks for the comment!
Stunning and very informative!
Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
What is the big stick for... is that also charcoal
Yes, the bigger stick is the same stuff as the smaller sticks. Thanks for watching!
Liked. Sub'd.
Beautiful work, as usual!
Amazing to watch! Which brush do you use? A soft watercolour one, or something more rigid like hog bristles?
Thanks Louise! It's a fairly soft acrylic brush, somewhere in between watercolor and stiff bristles.
Since it is portrait sketch, you could have shown the reference image to enable the viewers to understand the process better. Anyway like it a lot !
amazing technique!
Which charcoal
I believe this one was done with soft vine charcoal. I use more willow recently.
Great and Brilliant. Thank you .
Your artwork is truly a pleasure to the eyes
Thanks so much Helen.
Can't wait to try the style.
Good luck Lynn :)
Nice work
You're so good Jeff
Like , no kidding I promise
Hey sir.. i have a question, is it okay to use reference pictures or models to redraw exactly? Because for some reason ive been feeling guilty doing it xd. Im a begginer at drawing and i would love to know your opinion. Thank you ❤️
Hi Ciko, do you mean using photos as opposed to working from live models? I think live models are much better references but if you don't have a live model, then working from photos is fine. Photos can be deceiving sometimes, so be wary of 'redrawing exactly'. I hope that helps!
The way he did it within a short period of time with ease❤❤❤ everything is jusy perfect
I am getting BJ from the Office vibes, maybe it is the eyes. I just started doing charcoal, I have no art training at all, hoping to at least get a bit good at it.
Ha, I see it too now. Thanks Jade. :)
super
yes! Finally. I know it sounds corny but I enjoy JH videos. When they come around they make life's little pleasures. Such a good R-teest. It's so annoying though, cus I've tried for years. I can grid like hell but loosely measure like this AND get it right AND have your own unique style is freaking worth it. Where 's my charcoal sticks dammit?
Thanks Brandon, I'm glad you enjoy these. :)
Woow Looks so SUPERB! KEEP up the outstanding work!
Thank you!
I hope more people will see your video. Your video helps me a lot and teaches me a lot.👍🔥🔥🔥
画,小了
I'm having a bit of this tonight.

Why dont u teach ?
Sorry it’s taken so long to respond to this Heather. I actually am starting to teach more, currently I’m doing that through Patreon, but intend to do more in the near future through workshops and in-person instruction. Thanks for the message!
Do u teach? I’d love to learn from u!!
Thanks so much! I actually am starting to teach more, currently I’m doing that through Patreon, but intend to do more in the near future through workshops and in-person instruction. This year has been difficult to say the least. Thanks for the message!
