He was a contemporary of George Carlin and brought an edgy style of standup but somewhat more sophisticated in his delivery that made him extremely popular during the 1960s through the late 1980s. Shawn was performing at the University of California San Diego on April 17, 1987, when he suddenly fell face first down onto the stage in the middle of his routine. It took a few moments before the audience realized that this wasn’t part of his act. Even as paramedics arrived and attempted to revive Shawn and the audience was asked to leave, many still believed that what they were seeing was still an act. Dick Shawn died of an apparent heart attack. He was 63.

However on May 23, 1999, the equipment that lowered him into the ring failed, and he fell, landing on the ropes and causing massive injuries. I was watching Over The Edge in a bar in Bridgewater Nova Scotia that night, and remember the look on announcer Jim Ross' face as he delivered the horrifying news that Owen Hart had died. We didn't see the accident on pay per view... But the fans in the arena saw it, from him falling and landing chest first on the rope, to him being rushed out of the ring area. That would have been terrifying to witness. The show went on but it seemed the atmosphere at the venue had changed... As it did in the bar where we were watching it. I remember asking the student that was working at my office at the time if she was okay the following Monday... She was a huge fan of the Hart family, and had met Owen on several occasions. She was extremely upset, which is understandable. He was one of the WWE greats of the 1980s and 1990s... And to me, he is still a legend 25 years after his passing.
Anyone that is killed by an imprisoned, torched and forced to perform ,,,, well I truly have no sympathy for the person and all who do these things to any creature. Sorry not sorry
I remember being extremely creeped out as a child when I found out that a woman who was speaking at my church fell off the stage and died right there. Even though it happened before I attended the church I was always wary of that stage once I heard of this incident and never wanted to be alone in that room.
