    For what it's worth, if you have a completely dead battery then the the order of operations shown here looks to be wrong. First off, my battery was completely dead, which triggered the "reverse polarity" light indicator even when connected to the proper plus/minus terminals (confusing) which had me needlessly second-guessing my clamp placement. They should have a separate light indicator to signal a dead battery in my opinion. Second, if you press the manual override button AFTER connecting the unit's clamps to the car battery terminals as shown in the video, it will likely do nothing. Instead I had to press the manual override button to turn the unit on BEFORE I connected the clamps to the car battery terminals. Then it worked. They don't mention either of these gotchas in the above video, nor in the user manual. All the more harrowing for nervous users when the lights falsly indicate that you have "reverse polarity" and you have to turn it on before connecting. NOCO might want to at least mention this in their user guide for the next model.

    You need to setup MANUAL OVERRIDE before connecting to the battery if it is stone cold dead. This worked 100% in my case first time. As it is described in the video hooking up first, it did not work, it never chased, no juice no nothing etc.... So override then hook up and start at your own risk!

      I connected red to red and black to black only for error light to come on. Manual just said switch the wires around which don't sound right.
      Couldn't manually override, but with your method worked.

      I was having exactly the same issue. It would not go in to manual override when the battery was connected, but no problem when not connected. Just be careful you don't accidentally touch the cable ends together when in override mode.
      I have now annotated my user manual to remind myself for next time.

    It worked! Battery was dead. Regular boost didn’t work. I looked at the comments especially Aaron’s and James’ - you do need to press the button for manual overdrive BEFORE connecting it to your battery. Also let it do its thing for a few seconds and also, if the battery has any corrosion near the terminals clear it off safely (I had a plastic comb handy so I used 😂). I am female and was able to figure it out. Now if I ever have this issue I know I can handle it 💕

      Am buying one in the morning. So if you hook up the clamps and the lights on the GB40 start going, that means I don't need to over ride the GB40 right? You only over ride when you properly hook up the clamps but the lights on the GB40 don't do anything?

    • @write2nick
      @write2nick 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@americaisacontinent. if your battery has no voltage left, GB40 won't detect your car battery. In that case, GB 40 indicator light will turn on but the light won't move left to right. That's when you need to use manual override feature.

  • @genie121
    @genie121 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    My 84 year old dad tried this on his 22 year old Ford mondeo lol. It didn't work initially but the white light wasn't displaying to show it was delivering the charge. We decided to do a manual over ride (pressed it for 3 seconds- and the white light illuminated to show delivery of charge). He heard a small click from the engine which he recognised as a sign that it will work - fired her up and it started. I don't think you are supposed to use the override generally but I think his battery was to too low to detect. He's happy now 😂

    I have never ran into a scenario using my noco, even in minus temps or bigger batteries where it didn't detect the battery and ran the sequence when connected to the terminals. Since i didnt have a voltmeter, It automatically had me disconnecting and cleaning the terminals and still not working. It was very strange so I came to the conclusion that there was a safety setting or something I had never used on the noco or turned on by accident. Very strange that my battery was below 2V...but its good to know about the override as I have never encountered it. Either way, it worked like a charm!

    Why doesn't the gb40 do this boost automatically, i was trying to jump start a diesel navara last night and it wouldn't start it was dark and the gb40 was 3/4 charged, i couldn't figure out why it wouldn't work. • @NOCO
      @NOCO  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The Boosts require the vehicle battery to be reading at least 2V before it will put any power to the clamps. This is a safety feature built into the unit so that the leads are not always live when the unit is on, for safety. To jump start a vehicle whose battery is holding less than 2V, Manual Override is necessary to bypass that safety feature to still jump start the vehicle.

      This could be due to your vehicle's battery system. In some vehicles, when a previously fully depleted battery receives a spike in voltage it can set off the vehicle's alarm system. This typically only happens with completely depleted batteries, so it may happen when jump starting the vehicle using Manual Override since that feature is only needed when the battery is fully depleted, but likely won't happen in cases where you jump start the vehicle WITHOUT using Manual Override.
