    Looks like an updated version of what I was playing a while back: Ping i200 irons, UST Recoil 65 shafts and Pure Pro Titanium grips. I have since gone back to steel shafts because, like you mentioned, I saw no increase in distance with graphite shafts and felt the slightly heavier weight of the steel smoothed out my tempo somewhat. I'm lucky I have no physical ailments that necessitate the use of graphite. Great video - thanks!

    I did a set of i210's and used an assortment of tipweights to get sw up and to spec. Billybobs and golf works both have ferrules that are pretty close to Ping ferrules. There is a guy on ebay that sells collared ferrules that fit even better.

      Any chance you have a link to those ferrules on ebay?

    I'm thinking of switching from the stock shafts in my i210's to Mitsubhishi MMT 125tx. Have you installed those yet? Are the PIng's difficult to take apart?

    Oddly I am going from graphite back to steel or more accurately steel fiber and in weight from 65g to 80g (I am a little bit aggressive in the downswing). A much better ball flight and distribution. AND I am buying i210s!

    Great Build Jim ! Ive been researching the i210’s and came across your build... These will be my heads coming this springtime and your explanation of the ease of using graphite shafts for anyone with ailments makes perfect sense for me . Ive been home recovering from rotator cuff surgery i had on my left shoulder on 18 Dec. (its my 2nd on same shoulder, first one was in 2004. Also had my right shoulder done in 2014).
    My current irons are Callaway Apex Pro Forged 19’s (smoked ) (5-PW) which I was custom fit in early February 2019 at Club Champion, NJ.
    After 21 rounds in 2019, some research on TH-cam and looking at my Trackman #’s from the fitting, these spin ridiculously LOW and the 6 and 5 iron are ridiculously long (which is what they are designed to do). At the fitting i was super excited that the 5 iron was longer by 10-12 yards of carry compared to the X-Forged 18 5 iron , and we both overlooked the super low spin i was getting .
    My current Apex Pro’s have Nippon Modus3 Tour 105 S shafts (taken from my original Mizuno JPX 900 Forged) from 2017. Now you brought out a great point with using graphite shafts in irons and after I finish my shoulder rehab/PT (hopefully by April/May) I’ll be going to 2ndSwing (closest one to me in Staten ISland is 2 hours away near Philadelphia) and getting fit for the Ping i210’s.
    My original plan was to swap out the heads and keep the Nippon Modus 3 shafts, but now after watching your build, I’m definitely going to get the i210’s with graphite shafts !!

    Great Jim on the facts about the shaft and use. I am going to refer this to a friend who has some shoulder problems. As I get older and injuries pile up I may have to shift to this shaft. Once again great job!

    Whenever you go from steel to graphite the swingweight has to be adjusted. How come you didn't use lead weight pins to make up the difference.

    • @McGolf
      @McGolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Swing doesn't NEED to be adjusted. That is the big myth in building, you are using a lighter shaft for a reason, To weight it back up for the sake of SW is not reasonable. It will much different than before. One could however add a little extra for feel and gain benefits from light weight and better feel.

    Hi Jim, another great video! What if the pings were to be reshafted from steel to steel. How would you deal with the taper hosel when prepping a steel shaft? Do you, or can you shave off the tip (like you did with the graphite)? Or is there something else you do? Thanks again! :D

    • @McGolf
      @McGolf  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Gary Yip when using steel and absolutely positively needed for an emergency I might slot the tip. However, I would go find tapers instead

    Hi...rather than doing swing weight matching...have you considered MOI matching?...I do in Australia...MOI, CPM and laser shaft alignment. Use the Golfmechanix MOI machine. Just sayin'...love your work.

    • @McGolf

      Oscar Bevz I have and Talked to Mr. Wishon at length about. I’m just not comfy with the tech and idea of finding the right numbers

    • @oscarbevz2053
      @oscarbevz2053 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@McGolf Yes..it's a strange process. What is the "right" MOI? I generally ask the golfer for their "best" club (or two) and then measure the moi etc of that club. Then match the clubs to those parameters. MOI within 2% and CPM winin +/- 4cpm. Tom did mention to me that getting an MOI within 2% is OK because not even pro golfers can tell the difference below 2%. Essentially reverse engineering the process and treating woods, Irons, and wedges as separate "families" for tuning. Keep up the great work - I have learnt much from you. like we say down unda - "onya mate" = good on you (onya) mate

    • @McGolf
      @McGolf  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Matt Revilock it depends on the depth of the scrape. You didn’t did you...... then we must look at the coating and SW when grinding it off
