  • The Ferrari 296 GTB is Ferrari's latest 207mph hybrid supercar and having driven the Ferrari SF90 recently, I was keen to find out which one was best.

Saving 40 grand has never been an easier decision (if I were fortunate enough ti be speccing this car). But what a car…at first I didn’t appreciate the looks; I thought there were too many retro styling cues. But, now knowing that those elements are also used to enhance the drive…it’s won me over.

It seems this and the venerable 812 are the best current Ferraris. This is the first of the turbo/EV Ferraris that I like. The styling is good for once, not too fussily detailed, it has hints of the Dino (Ferrari’s most beautiful road car ever IMO) about it that I like as well. And the engine noise is fantastic! Better than any of Ferrari’s contemporary turbo V8s…and it’s a V6! The best sounding V6 I’ve heard since the Alfa’s of old. Well done Ferrari for adding character to a hybrid! When Ferrari and all other sports car manufacturers have to dump the combustion engine completely, will be a very sad day…the day all cars become drones. Great for a Rolls but not a Ferrari or Lambo.

Can't wrap my head around that at all.
How can you think that the numb 296 steering feel is better than the F8 which gives great feedback? Then there's the lazy throttle. I have never been in a car this powerful that can have such a hard time breaking its tyres loose. By comparison the F8 is a monster that has instant response while being a turbo. The 296 is a car that actually needs to spool its turbos, and below 5k, nothing is there. And the busy chassis? What is that about? It is good in its AF version, but in the normal non-AF version, it does not work at all as it lacks feeling as a supercar. I have driven and tracked all four variants, and the only one that impressed, was the AF GTB. I can take them or leave them, but I will not have one along side my SF90 and F8. Hope the VS will be better when we see that in '26.

Harry you are quite the diplomat as that spec is a true horror movie. That said, a properly specced one of these should be glorious. I've always preferred engines with cylinders in multiples of 3s.... even a 3 cylinder motorcycle engine has layers and harmonics that go well beyond the monotone wail of most I4s. So this "downgrade" is actually an upgrade IMO.

Nobody complains about six cylinders in 911’s for example, because they do the job and sound good. Hi Harry another great video! Two quick questions 1) does the 296 feel different to the F8, if so how does it compare from a handling perspective, steering and does it feel as light as an F8? 2) I was curious if you could weigh this car, with the electric motor and all the new tech Ferrari claims I think around 1470kg dry weight - it would be nice to know what it actually weighs with fluids. Love this car especially in GTS trim. Thanks for doing what you do!

A wonderfully informative review again from Harry it seems so long ago when we met at Goodwood launching EVO magazine, for my 296GTB I would miss out the Fiorano pack as would not be keen to risk the love of my life on track with other cars or want a firmer ride as Cornwall’s roads are not much cop right now.

Love the 60's flavor with this car. The livery reminds me of Richard Petty's period racing schemes and works so well because the design itself has such a timeless, classic purity. The shape harkens to yester year without coming across as "retro" or contrived. And that cockpit! I usually hate shouty high contrast interiors but there's something about the detail work in this spec that has me totally smitten!

I think it's one of the best looking and sounding Ferrari's ever. The livery is not very subtle, but I got used to it during the vid. A more subtle striping would be preferable, and of course red with red and red. But it's great they honour the Maranello Consessionaires. So in short; What a car.

  • @oeiras99

Really fine photograpy and sound engineering on the road with a blend of autumn colors and the red and blue of the car. In the garage I thought that the red/baby blue combination was awful but on the road it was muito bonito at 200 kph. If they gave out awards for car reviews, that one is right up there. Well done.

  • @scottjohnson4319

Like so many have said previously the blue was a mistake. Just because is was done in the past doesn't mean it should ever be repeated and how can a stripe be woth more that TWO concourse- level complete paint jobs?! That said a yellow or silver panel in the front and rear could be an option to personalize an all red car. Lovely job from Maranello, hop this signifies the end of the busy/fussy design era.

Your face told a story when you launched it Harry. Bit more than you anticipated. Col. Ronnie Hoare also owned a large Ford garage in Bournemouth around the time he started to import Ferrais to the UK and I always remember an aside he told my father about the V12 the Colonel was driving (sorry don't know what model). He moaned every time he drove around town the plugs would oil up and he had to get it serviced. Good old days. They have come so far and I am glad to say that I have lived through the pinnacle of the combustion engine.
