I have a 110 gallon tank full of Malawi cichlids. It took a long time to balance the tank politics, but I love them. I also find that my cichlids get along fine with various types of catfish too, which is great because the only thing I love more than cichlids are my cats.

Video quality noticeably better John and Lisa. Love the simple straightforward approach. Seeing Dennis Ruedel’s tank was awesome. He has some beautiful beasts. Great video!

Lisa, you are awesome. So glad you have gotten more involved this year. I enjoy seeing your collaborations with John.
My first tank when I got in the hobby was African Cichlids, Mbuna mostly. Biggest part of my research was old KG Tropicals videos when John was at the store... and DIY Joey here on TH-cam. Besides that, I did a lot of research on species and found a local Cichlid group. Been hooked ever since. John’s tips helped us greatly, even though my bf had 15+ years of experience in African tanks. He didn’t have the internet community’s help and knowledge. So, we learned together. It’s awesome to share the hobby with loved ones.
I wish you two and your family a very merry Christmas!

Discus are my favorite SA Cichlids, they are just as bad as the Jewels.

I got my first 12 over the last few weeks. I have a socolofi, a demosoni, 2 kenyi, 4 bumblebees, and 4 yellow tail acei. So far everybody is getting along. Their favorite foods so far are fluval bug bites and tetra cichlid flakes. The flakes are only for those that can't eat pellets just yet.

There was a cichlid found on my college campus after a student left; they said she was three years old. She was huge. She was given to me after my roommate took her on but left school soon after. I took out all the decorations so she could swim and did water changes weekly. The tank was maybe 15 or 20 gallons. I'm sorry Cecilia. I was a broke student with just the knowledge of having a few neon tetras in the 90's. Classic Pleco at the bottom too. Too much fish abuse ...

10 Things has started off as a hit in my book. You have a
beautiful and lovely, it’s great you two share YT, the hobby and 10 Things
together. 10 Things about breeding Africans would be great IMO. I never notice
a holing female in our aquariums. I find small fry hiding in the cracks of sand
and rock work and do my best to save them. Tips and a 10 Things vid would prove
to be invaluable. Great Video John and Lisa, keep up the awesome work!

I am ftom India and I have a 85 gallon tank. It's a African community tank with a mix of Peacock, Mbuna and Haps.
Off lately, the sunshine peacocks seem to be harrassed and have their tails nipped. To the extent that they have lost almost half their tails.
Pls cud u suggest a way to curb down the aggression or stop these issues.

    Hey kgtropics
I have a rainbow cichlid in my Malawi tank which has peacocks and mbunas
And he seems to be holding his own in the tank ... Getting along pretty well... First day he did get into a couple of mishaps but since then it has died down and is pretty much getting along with the others
I did this because the rainbow was originally I'm my tank and was becoming a bully towards one of my angelfish who isn't well and have been nursing it back to health... Looking good so far 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽 and also speaking to my fish guy and getting his advice...I did have a hospital tank ready and set up for the angelfish to move into ... But was told to let the angel stay on the tank it's already in since it isn't doing to well and moving it will only cause it to stress
So.i moved the rainbow into my dad's Malawi tank instead lol which I have finished setting up for him a few weeks ago
Would you recommend to keep him in the Malawi tank and of course keeping a close eye on things because it seems fine it has been a few day ... Or should.i just move him altogether .... Plus they're all pretty young in the Malawi tank including the rainbow
The peacocks are the biggest fish in there

**newbie here** Do you have a video focused on how to feed the Cichlids if you have a mix of them for their diet? I'm mostly going to get mabunas but might get the odd one that isn't. Mbunas are mostly vegetable based...what other stuff do they enjoy eating? I was also wondering what is the best gravel for Cichilids? would it be Onyx Gravel? Onyx is black I believe but I love the white look to gravel but i'm not sure if that will be most benificial for the fish. hope to hear back from you thank you. P.S. Love the videos I am getting a lot of helpful tips.

I have a mostly mbuna tank 75gallona about 12 fish. The only fish that isn’t mbuna is the pleco, but recently I purchased a red empress and an ob peacock to put in, and the mbuna beat them up so badly that they were both upside down. Luckily I took them out, put them in a hospital tank, and they survived. But I will never put peacocks in the same tank as mbuna ever again after this 😭.
