Fun fact: Cell’s line about “A young girl shooting a little boy in the face” is actually how Dragon Ball started and is also how Goku and Bulma met for the first time. You see, Goku had grown up in the mountains and was raised by his grandfather, Gohan. Some time after Gohan passed away, Bulma shows up on the mountain trail in a car, following the signal of the 4 star dragon ball that belonged to Gohan. Goku had never seen a car before since he was raised in the mountains, and mistook it for a demon monster. When Goku started to lift the car over his head, Bulma, believing herself to be being attacked, sticks herself out the window and shoots Goku in the head with a pistol.
That Kamehameha that can be heard in the background on that video Bulma found was Kid Goku attacking the Red Ribbon Army HC, and that Android 16 was actually Dr. Gero's son, Gevo, who died in that attack and thus Gero wanting revenge against Goku. The 'clan' thing can be chosen by the namekian. Kami was from the Dragon Clan, and thus so was king piccolo. When King piccolo died he used up all his his remaining life to create Piccolo as a pristine Namekian Warrior (like Nail). This made Piccolo from the Warrior 'clan' the word Clan is more like choosing Healer, DPS or Tank class in an MMO; clan is probably a bad translation of class. Back to the topic, when piccolo absorbed kami their body class was still Warrior, so even though Piccolo knows how, he doesn't have the ability to do it. Technically Piccolo could spit up a baby Kami to be guardian of Earth but that would take like 10-15 years of raising a dragon clan baby... Warrior babies grow up way faster, Piccolo was only 4 years old when he lost to goku... who was 18-19
Team Four Star added Goku being the one who killed Gevo, Gero's son whom Android 16 was modeled on. Original it was mentioned he died to a bullet from a soldier. It is a great change as it gives Gero a reason to blindly hate Goku. Gero made 16 extremely powerful but also non-aggressive so he wouldn't get destroyed in battle. The writers of the recent movie might have made this change canon.
It's funny that TFS chose to emphasize Goten's conception so much considering that he was a surprise in DBZ. We don't hear a peep about him until he shows up as a new character in the Buu saga.
Just to let yall know in the DBZA creator commentary they note that, "but if you had a wig," line is Goku thinking if that would work not that he would actually do that.
Remember what I said back when Trunks first warned everyone about the androids? Remember that date I told you to keep track of? That scene with "16" is why Dr. Gero specifically chose to attack on May 12th in this version of the story.
It's funny. A lot of people thought TFS made it up and praised them for it when it was a plot point in FighterZ, but it was from one of Toriyama's notes.
So in the original Dragonball starts off with Bulma looking for the Dragonballs and meets with Goku who held one from his adopted earth father. Bulma and Goku had a rough start but filled with much hilarity, and yes Bulma did shoot Goku. Also the part with the Android 16 mp4 clip is TeamFourStar's custom made portion to include the clues that 16 is based off of Gero's real son that was in the Red Ribbon army, an enemy faction the old Dragonball gang dealt with back in the day. As you guessed it, Kid Goku attacked the base and the clip sets it up as Goku killing Gero's son, setting up motivation for wanting Goku dead. 16 is later brought back again in FighterZ game where he is rebuilt and Android 21 is the main antagonist who is based off Gero's wife and 16's mother. There's 3 endings, and the more canon extended game ending has A21 split into her more humane self while her evil buu self runs amock. The good A21 shows herself to be very caring and motherly, and cared for 16.
Oh god, listening to the discussion after the episode and the discussion about Vegeta being King and Trunks prince is killing me. I really hope you two have watched the Broly movie, you will have an incredible time.
the video Bulma found was an original animation TFS had done, this is due to info we learned that Android 16 is modelled after his dead son, who was a fighter for the Red Ribbon Army. Back during the Dragon Ball days, Goku fought and destroyed the entire Red Ribbon Army single-handedly and in the original animation done, TFS added the date for Goku's attack to it and likely a correct timezone change too, which fits with what date and time Andoics 19 and 20 appeared. It's REALLY well done but subtle enough that most miss it.
That small part with a completely human Android 16 was a callback to the original DragonBall show where Goku as a kid single handedly defeated the Red Ribbon Army. That Kamehameha you heard in the background was Goku kicking ass and taking names.
I think it's been said in the comments somewhere before, but if not, Chichi and Bulma's strong personalities are why Goku and Vegeta are attracted to them.
The best part of Mr. Satan is how the TeamFourStar guys felt the need to change basically nothing about his character from the original in the abridged version
I am here for all these channels watching / rewatching DBZA. It is unironically one of the best pieces of content the internet has ever spawned. TFS are magicians
Luchadores are masked wrestlers from Mexico. Mr. Satan is parody of Hulk Hogan I believe. Also, remember calling him "Prince Trunks" when you get to the Broly movie, very much relevant.
5:15 Just in case that is not obvious, that is literally how Dragon Ball started. A 16 year young Bulma meets a comparativly half sized Goku in the woods and he thinks the car Bulma drives is a monster and throws her car around. She defends herself by shooting him. In the face. Obviously to no avail. 10:10 This particular scene is also not part of actual DB continuity. However Goku did indeed attack and devastate the Red Ribbon Army, of which Gero was a part of. This spawned some theories about C16 being modeled after Geros son.
@@BJGvideos I mean, Dragon Ball was a big deal back in the day. But it was essentially all baseless assumptions, iirc there is no further information at all inside the manga about C16 except he is a eternal energy, no human base android. But throw enough ideas into a pool and one will come out to be correct.
Fun fact: that little "Boo!" that throws the book at Chi-Chi is Lanipator (Vegeta, Krillin, Piccolo, etc.) and he is playing the ghost of Goku's grandpa Gohan. I never know that was who it was.
5:15 This might not be clear to you 2 so I will explain it: Dragon Ball started with Goku and Bulma meeting for the first time. Bulma hit Goku with her car and Goku thought Bulma's car was a monster so he picked it up and threw it so Bulma shot him in self defense but it didn't have any effect because by that time Goku was so strong that his body was as hard as steel. 5:33 "go for ten" Goku's second son is called Goten (You seen him for just a few seconds in the super android 13 movie). 9:24 The Red Ribbon Army was the big bad in the first half of Dragon Ball and Goku single handedly crushed the entire organization at the age of 12. The date sounds familar to Bulma because that was the day Goku crushed the HQ of the Red Ribbon Army. You can hear Goku yelling Kamehameha in the background. 16 died that day and it was Goku who killed him accidentally.
To clarify, there is a theory that says that 16 could be a model created in the image of the dead son of Doctor Gero, android 20 is also coming to be Android 20.
Never forget that Goku killed more people as a child than most serial killers do in their entire run through the papers, literally stormed an army base and left a majority of them dead or on the verge of death.
Hercule Satan is actually VERY strong for a human being able to break cinder blocks and punch through a literal bus. He’s just weak compared to the Z Warriors
Mr. Satan isn't a Mexican wrestler trope. They are called 'Luchador' by the way. He is a parody of wrestlers like Hulk Hogan and other 'big personality' wrestlers. The Hot Asian Wife line was reference to a wrestler from around the time (2014-15) saying that he had a hot Asian wife in a promo interview.
You actually saw Mr. Satan once before at the end of season 2. He was the new talent that Nappa had discovered. It's a shame that Abridged ends at the end of this arc, as Mr. Satan becomes a huge part of the story going forward, even becoming part of the final battle of Dragonball Z. In the Cell arc, we just get a small sample of him.
Fun Fact: the audio file was reference to Goku as a kid storming the red ribbon armies base and destroying it. the Kamehameha you heard was Goku during the events of the original Dragonball.
Yup. Bulma was right saying to Piccolo and Tien she is longer in this than any of them. Goku meet her in the very first DB episode. After he attacked her car (believing it to be some kind of monster), she freaked out and shot him in the forehead with her gun. Also "go for ten" is TFS' origin of Gohan's little brother name - Goten (fun fact: he looks just like kid Goku and becomes best friends with Trunks)
Of course, in the real show, Goku asked the Namekians for permission and they were eager to help with Dende volunteering. There was none of that Dende insulting them stuff.
14:57 Lowkey one of my favorite moments. It's such a small interaction, but it's easy to forget Bulma and Goku have been friends since they were kids since they never do any casual friend stuff together.
The video they found inside 16's brain was completely animated for DBZA, but the lore that 16 was modelled after Gero's late son, who was a Red Ribbon soldier, is actually canon. This detail was never mentioned in the original series, but Toriyama first brought it up in a Q&A for a full-color re-release of the manga. Since Gero's son was a Red Ribbon soldier, a popular headcanon became that he perished during young Goku's attack on the Red Ribbon HQ, giving Gero additional motivation for hating Goku. I just think it's really cool how TFS went the extra mile to convey this then-obscure character fact to their audience, and use it to enhance their story. Also, Hail Satan!
I'm not sure if you've already seen the next part of the series, but please do yourself a big favour and watch the "Cell vs." videos BEFORE the next DBA episode. They're fairly short, so you could probably fit in most, if not all of them into one video and they're absolutely hilarious.

This episode has so much, and you forget so much of it.
The fact that both goku and gohan have martial artist wives is also interesting
Just to let yall know in the DBZA creator commentary they note that, "but if you had a wig," line is Goku thinking if that would work not that he would actually do that.
Remember what I said back when Trunks first warned everyone about the androids? Remember that date I told you to keep track of? That scene with "16" is why Dr. Gero specifically chose to attack on May 12th in this version of the story.
Oh god I just realised that ChiChi saying "Go for ten" when Goku's record is 9 is why they named their second son "Goten".
The video that shows Dr. Gero's son which Android 16 is based on is one of the best things Team Four Star created that was never in the original show.
It's funny. A lot of people thought TFS made it up and praised them for it when it was a plot point in FighterZ, but it was from one of Toriyama's notes.
Don't forget you have to watch all the "Cell vs" videos before the next episode!
Let's hope they read you
something you do miss since you haven't seen the original, Goku's second son is named Goten, "Go for Ten" she yells, "Go For TEN!"
12:57-13:46 Vegeta in the Hypersonic Liontamer remains one of my favourite jokes 😂
Android 16 is designed after Dr. Gero's son, Gevo. He was a high-ranking Red Ribbon soldier long ago felled by an enemy bullet.
Oh god, listening to the discussion after the episode and the discussion about Vegeta being King and Trunks prince is killing me. I really hope you two have watched the Broly movie, you will have an incredible time.
The fact that she said prince trunks while having no idea what happens in the broly movie was amazing
"Prince Trucks" as someone who has seen the next movie oh man that's gonna be funny.
the video Bulma found was an original animation TFS had done, this is due to info we learned that Android 16 is modelled after his dead son, who was a fighter for the Red Ribbon Army.
Every time I see Goku in that outfit, especially the point when he lays down, all I can think of is the Toonami "Broken Promise (Dreams)" video.
13:10 Everyone bursted out laughing when Popo said that lol
I am here for all these channels watching / rewatching DBZA. It is unironically one of the best pieces of content the internet has ever spawned. TFS are magicians
9:50 artificial humans is the term used in the original japanese, the dubs mixed cyborg and android.
Luchadores are masked wrestlers from Mexico. Mr. Satan is parody of Hulk Hogan I believe. Also, remember calling him "Prince Trunks" when you get to the Broly movie, very much relevant.
One of the reason i love DB and DBZ because all characters are also growing old as i get older..
"Pince Trunks!"
* snort * ... When is the Broly Movie?...
Fun fact. Mr Satan is basically the exact same person as he is in the actual show
I like that goku didn't say "bone dry", he said "boned dry" lol
Six times i rewatched this series. And every time i thought thats the back door joke was her trying to stop him form leaving.
Important note: Cell is voiced by Takahata 101, who also voiced Guru
5:15 Just in case that is not obvious, that is literally how Dragon Ball started. A 16 year young Bulma meets a comparativly half sized Goku in the woods and he thinks the car Bulma drives is a monster and throws her car around. She defends herself by shooting him. In the face. Obviously to no avail.
10:10 This particular scene is also not part of actual DB continuity. However Goku did indeed attack and devastate the Red Ribbon Army, of which Gero was a part of. This spawned some theories about C16 being modeled after Geros son.
16 being based on his son comes from a Toriyama interview
@@BJGvideos That was 24 years after C16s debut and still 11 years after the english debut. The discussion has been ongoing for longer than that.
@@Finsternis.. Oh it was suspected for a while? Neat.
When you saw the files in 16's mind was when Goku attacked the Red Ribbon army in OG Dragon Ball
Well at least all the citizens now know the whole story of DBZ unlike everyone in the regular show.
I love Mr. Popo’s response to Dende not taking his s**t.
Cell's dialogue is some of the best material in this whole series.
In canon I think Gero's son died in battle but it was neat for TFS to alter that up and make it personal.
literally my favorite DBZA episode, so legendary
To clarify, there is a theory that says that 16 could be a model created in the image of the dead son of Doctor Gero, android 20 is also coming to be Android 20.
It's not a theory, 21 literally talks about that in FighterZ.
That’s fair 😊
I love that Mr. Perfect Cell is just summarizing Dragon Ball to DBZ in this episode. Filler and all…
Dende calling piccolo, nail is great
"Our story starts with a young girl, shooting a little boy in the face". Ah, Dragon Ball episode 1. When Goku and Bulma first met, and she shot him.
I like how whistling for Gohan hurt piccolo's ears. It's the little things!
Fun Fact: the audio file was reference to Goku as a kid storming the red ribbon armies base and destroying it. the Kamehameha you heard was Goku during the events of the original Dragonball.
the funny thing is....well Dragon ball began with Bulma shooting goku in the face
The ka me ha me ha you heard was a reference to goku destroying the red ribbon army in original dragon ball series
When dende whistles at Gohan you hear piccolo say ow it's a reference to the lord slug movie
nappa sure got ballsy with how he got vegeta swept up in the moment
The kamehameha in the background was from the Old dragon ball where kid goku blowed up the red ribbon army's HQ
Fun fact, the "go for ten, go for ten!" is a joke on the name of Goku's next kid: Goten.
I'm not sure if you've already seen the next part of the series, but please do yourself a big favour and watch the "Cell vs." videos BEFORE the next DBA episode. They're fairly short, so you could probably fit in most, if not all of them into one video and they're absolutely hilarious.
