All of Peter's lines in this scene are pure comedy gold, Roger Allam was fantastic in this role. I almost wish the series had continued just following the opposition.
Peter Mannion is my absolute favourite character from "The Thick of it" , with Malcolm and Glenn as close seconds, Roger Allam unapologetically steals every scene he's in and always makes me break down laughing.
“You bought a bank out of social embarrassment. I sometimes buy The Big Issue out of social embarrassment, I don’t buy a FUCKING BANK!” My God the delivery of that line killed me. The way Rodger Allam delivers it is hilarious and brilliant
The first time I watched Stewart's scream I laughed so hard I couldn't breath. I imagine this scream is one explosion of so much condensed anger and I find it extremely funny. Absolute masterpiece show. Yes and ho.
“Sweet Tracy Emin” is just one of the best lines of the series. Everything Stewart says is just pure gold and 100% believeable for a strategist in Camerons Tory party attempting to rebrand itself.
Growing up as an American, I always assumed we cornered the market (I know, it's self-centered of me to probably think that way) on phony politicians who said and did ridiculous things, but you know what, after watching this, and any episode of a British panel show that discusses politics in the UK, I suddenly don't feel so bad. People are screwed up everywhere. What a small world it is XD
To be fair, our Congress hasn't erupted into public fisticuffs like certain other legislative bodies throughout the world. Although I'd love to see two Senators go at each other on C-SPAN.
Small world indeed mate. In a world of freedom of the press (thank fuck for that) every little embarrassment is sent to the public, and every little hypocrisy. Pretty great when you think about it.
I’m American and learned of this show from an Opie and Anthony fan who lived in the UK. Got introduced to Malcolm Tucker and thought the character was funny. Little did I know that every other character is absolutely golden and many even funnier than Capaldi’s. Phenomenal show, had me in tears a few times
Reminiscent of the line from Peep Show - "You're going to get married... out of embarrassment?" Both are funny. Peep Show is more quotable but this one has better delivery.
You know what the great thing about this scene is? This scene, besides the fact that it’s just plain funny (or hilarious, if you want), is proof that The Thick of It’s scenes didn’t always need Malcolm Tucker to make it funny. Don’t get me wrong, I love Peter Capaldi. But this scene shows the perfect chemistry between the other stars of The Thick of It.
As brilliant as Malcolm Tucker is, I always found Peter Mannion the funniest character. Hilarious when he's deadpan, hilarious when he's angry, and gives off an aura that he just can't be arsed with everyone around him.
There's a great scene under the credits when they're sitting next to each other in front of the television, wearily critiquing Fergus's on-camera performance as he makes the Mr. Tickle statement. "He's about to do the invisible tits." (Fergus makes the "I'm communicating sincerely" gesture of bouncing his cupped hands at chest level.) "There we go."
If there are any Roger Allam fans who didn't hear him as Douglas in BBC radio comedy "Cabin Pressure" you are really in for a treat if you track it down.
"I don't want the fucking trousers" is one of my sneaky favourite lines in the whole show. Always catches me off guard cos you think the episode is basically over after Stewart's meltdown
*Uh Peter speaking of socially embarrassing situations what the fuck where you doing been photographed on a slide?... It was the only place we could get a fucking SIGNAL!. Two men in a playground that’s a pretty clear signal* 😂😭
Came here to see Geoffrey Streatfield who’s currently the PM in Anatomy of A Scandal (pretty sh!t actually) but in The Thick of It he’s wonderful -they ALL are.
The way Peter says the word "fucking" is 100% amazing. Every time he says it, it's just wonderful.
As opposed to Malcolm Tucker, who uses it as punctuation.
noptic the whistle right before he drops the f bomb is pure magic
And then Phil ruins it with the "oooh". Hate that guy
He's got a great theatrical voice
I’ve always loved this… how he says “fucking bank”, the way that he stresses the words are pure anger… marvellous acting.
“I don’t buy a FUCKing BANK” perfect delivery.
It's like the line in the circle thing when he goes "you idiot thats FUCKing mental"
I always come back to this video just for that line!
Every single actor deliver their lines so perfectly.
“This is so fucking us”
They’re actors?
"We give a toss, we're sorry for your loss" - ROFL
life in a nutshell.

All of Peter's lines in this scene are pure comedy gold, Roger Allam was fantastic in this role. I almost wish the series had continued just following the opposition.
MikeMJPMUNCH especially his delivery of “a fucking BANK!”
I'd really watch that than seeing malcom
Roger Allam is incredible.
They were in government this series
"You're giving me an actual noose along with the metaphorical one. TROUSERS!"
The way he slowly gets more pissed off and louder as he says "fucking BANK!" is beautiful.
"Oh, great the triple! I'm a nurse killer, a banker, and now i'm raising FUCKING TAXES?!"
“We might need to relaunch the trousers” is one of my favourite lines ever.
TROUSERS!!!!
"You bought a bank out of social embarrassment" 😂
Jake Williams "I sometimes buy The Big Issue out of social embarrassment. I don't buy a FUCKING BANK!"
Chris Evans *Oh great they’ll triple.. I’m a nursekiller a banker and now IM RAISING FUCKING TAXES!!!*
Peter this is so fucking us
Well you are meant to be the bad cop so what's our out?
You've given me an _actual_ noose as well as a metaphorical one.
The look on Stewart's face after the 'funded by taxes' line is perfection.
It's like his brain cant even process the utter retardation on display before him.
Shocked beyond belief
"I was up to Warlock General on Dragon Lancer. A year of my life, gone."
"It was the only place we could get a fffffucking signal!"
Peter Mannion is my absolute favourite character from "The Thick of it" , with Malcolm and Glenn as close seconds, Roger Allam unapologetically steals every scene he's in and always makes me break down laughing.

Peter’s face while he’s saying “It was the only place we could get a FUCKING *SIGNAL.”* is just so goddamn perfect. XD
I felt threatened
The first time I watched Stewart's scream I laughed so hard I couldn't breath. I imagine this scream is one explosion of so much condensed anger and I find it extremely funny. Absolute masterpiece show. Yes and ho.
The total chaos that is conveyed in this scene is total genius. The delivery of the dialogue is brilliant. It's such fun to watch :)
Stewart’s scream. 😂😂
“Sweet Tracy Emin” is just one of the best lines of the series. Everything Stewart says is just pure gold and 100% believeable for a strategist in Camerons Tory party attempting to rebrand itself.
It's up there with sorry about the puffin, for sure.
My favourite line by some distance, and one that's in regular rotation in my house
Not caught up on the nuances, but I googled and read that she's an avantgarde artist. what's the deal with Tracey Emin?
"Sweet Tracy Emin!"
Michael Pennington This bit fucking destroys me, and I don't know why.
"TROUSERS!"
"I don't want the fucking trousers!"
XD
Priceless
Peter and Malcom are hilarious in this show. When they cuss people out they do it with such style.
That's true. The US doesn't have a monopoly on stupidity and nonsense. It's world wide. :-D
It's actually easy to understand when you realize that half of the people in any profession are below average.
Christ, if American politicians behave like those in a sitcom then you must really be in the shit.
Small world indeed mate. In a world of freedom of the press (thank fuck for that) every little embarrassment is sent to the public, and every little hypocrisy. Pretty great when you think about it.
What gets me about this scene is that Stewart is so utterly furious at Fergus and Adam that he completely forgets to use any buzzwords for a bit :P.
The best bit of this scene is just after this, with Stewart just lying down, t-posed on the ground.
Love this show. A pity they didn't continue it further. Just absolutely hilarious.
I actually kind-of agree with Armando Iannucci that British politics is just too surreal and pathetic as is that TTOI wouldn't work as well any more.
"We give a toss,
We're sorry for your loss."
😭
From the screen to the ring to the pen to the king, wheres my crown thats my blind always drama when i ring🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
FR!!! I WAS WAITING FOR THIS COMMENT
I lose it every time Stewart goes nuts there rofl, the way he just completely loses his mind is therapeutic
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH
"Warlock General in Dragon Lance" just absolutely nails what he'd do in his spare time😅😅😂
The escalating comic absurdity of this show is magnificent. Comparable to Fawlty Towers.
'It was the only place we could get a FUCKING SIGNAL.' 😂
“Yes, I do know, Fergus, a man with an amusing name has died.”
Incredibly dry delivery. Allam is one of the greats.
Peter nodding in disbelief at "this is so fucking us" always takes me out
(Stares angrily) “it’s the only place we could get a fucking signal.”.. that one tickled me lol
1:15 that poor lady on the phone just tryin to get work done
One of my all-time favourite TV scenes. Just too funny.
Peter shouting ‘it was the only place we could get a FUCKING SIGNAL’ with the disheveled collar and undone tie is the funniest thing
Reminiscent of the line from Peep Show - "You're going to get married... out of embarrassment?"
Both are funny. Peep Show is more quotable but this one has better delivery.
Oh yes, I love both shows and the parallels between the two are endless!
Same writers!
@@FabianMacGintyONeillyes, the very same who went on to create Succession.
There is literally nothing on TV as good as this currently!

well put!

@@Szaam Of course he can't be arsed! He's one of the six-toed born to rule pony fuckers!
From the screen to the ring to the pen to the king
YESSS!!
"All going to p1ss in a kettle" is a great line that I've begun using regularly since i first saw this scene 😂
I don't buy a FUCKING BANK 😂😂 tremendous delivery of swearing in this
Year of my life...gone
I love Stewart's meltdown. You don't usually see him that angry.
The Big Issue 😂😂😂😂😂 what a great example
TROUSERS! Peter asked calmly
I love that for once Stewart and Peter are in agreement
Common enemy and all that
There's a great scene under the credits when they're sitting next to each other in front of the television, wearily critiquing Fergus's on-camera performance as he makes the Mr. Tickle statement. "He's about to do the invisible tits." (Fergus makes the "I'm communicating sincerely" gesture of bouncing his cupped hands at chest level.) "There we go."
I've been saying, "It's all gone to piss in a kettle" for near 10 years now, and it's never lost its bite
“We give a toss we’re sorry for your loss.” 😂😂😂
If there are any Roger Allam fans who didn't hear him as Douglas in BBC radio comedy "Cabin Pressure" you are really in for a treat if you track it down.
1:44 Terry‘s face, priceless...
Peter Mannion’s swearing is absolutely hilarious
"Oh great the triple. I'm a nurse killer, a banker and now I'M RAISING FUCKING TAXES!"
The Thick of It ran so Succession could sprint. Both just immaculate television
Roger Allam angry is gold!
After that I'd be having a whole boxful of Twixes!!!
Oh, the triple! I'm a nurse-killer, a banker, and now i'm raising FUCKING TAXES?!
Roger Allam would be so brill in a Christopher Hitchens biopic.
Oh God yes, that's who he reminded me of!
"Two grown men in a playground sends a pretty clear signal." 😂
AHH GREAT THE TRIPLE!
Peter Mannion: “I’m a nurse killer, a banker, and now I’m raising FUCKING TAXES??!!”
I love The Thick of It. All the characters are uniquely funny. Peter is probably my favourite.
This is how the story goes...🔥
10 out of 10 delivery of "fucking BANK"
Illyrio Mopatis got angry at the bank purchase!!!!
An episode of _The Thick of It_ without at least three scandals is considered a dull affair.
An episode without at least three scandals? Has that ever happened?
Righto then, looks like im rewatching the thick of it for the 15th time
“ A year of my life gone “
"Get him a tie. Bland one. Glenn - one of yours."
"You look like the Shit Family Robinson" in tears
Thick leak for the thin leak to go down with the bin as a front 😂🙀
It's funny how Stewart is so shocked and annoyed that he doesn't come out with a single buzzword.
Peter Mannion winds up delightfully to it every time he says "fuck".
Hold on a moment, isn't that lewis prothero? The guy who got killed in the shower by Hugo Weaving's voice?
Yes
And as always, England Prevails!
@@mobro538 That was the first time I had even heard of Roger Allam. It was long before I first watched The Thick of It.
The tie 'n' trousers bit reminds me of GB's new PM!!! lol
Scary how true this is
This has to be the best episode
I love how even Stewart is shocked by their incompetence.
This is gold!
It was all going to piss in a kettle
I'm happy here 😄
You can see Adam's soul dying at 0:43
He worked at the mail, he never had a soul
NOW IM RAISING TAXES?!
It was the only place we could get a FFFUCKING SIGNAL
Sweet Tracy Emin
Sooo bloody funny
Sweet Tracy Emin😂
We might need to relaunch the trousers
“Tracy Emming”
I buy the big issue out of social embarrassment 😂😂
"I don't want the fucking trousers" is one of my sneaky favourite lines in the whole show. Always catches me off guard cos you think the episode is basically over after Stewart's meltdown
