My first experience with coffee was a Tim Horton's Ice Cappuccino. Those things are like 1% coffee and like 95% sugar and milk. Eventually I transitioned to sugar and cream heavy ice coffee, and then milky regular coffee. Now, I just drink it black because I am lazy and like the richness of a good coffee.

If you don't like the taste AT ALL, you're probably not going to like any kind of coffee or coffee variation, but if you're ok with the taste but think it's too strong or bitter, you might enjoy a different type of coffee, or drink it with sugar, or a mocca, or cappuccino, etc.

To everyone asking how I've not drank coffee before, my Dad and I are really close and he doesn't drink alcohol or coffee, so I just never really started (Although I have tried ciders after moving to Ireland). I don't know what that thing was, but it wasn't a macchiato. Macchiato means "to stain" because it's literally just a splash of steamed milk in an espresso shot.
Macchiato means stained; a 'latte macchiato' means stained milk, so mostly milk with a bit of espresso. Also there's an 'Espresso macchiato' it's espresso with a little bit of milk.

I used to like it really sweet, now I add a little sugar to take the edge off the bitterness. But sometimes it's nice to get a caramel macchiato every once in a while. Though usually when I get coffee at a shop I ask for an extra shot in it lol

oh man, as a former coffee roaster and barista, I really hope people know that different beans and different roasts GREATLY change how each drink tastes. It's not just a latte, it's a latte with a dark-roasted Brazilian for the espresso. Not trying to be a snob but I guarantee you that you could probably find a bean you like. (Try a light Costa Rican for your espresso if you don't like strong flavour or a medium Colombian. In Ireland, Costa Coffee used to have an amazing Kenyan if you like a bit of a fruity taste.) :)
Ardin Catish it's the same with tea too. I'm sure there are teas that they don't t like. It Mmm they just gotta keep trying to find the right flavour. I only drink decaf myself bc there's something in normal coffee that messes with my stomach. But I love teas and coffees. So I understand both. Oh and also the amount of time a bean/tea is steeped or roasted also effects the flavour. The longer you steep the tea the stronger it is. The more roasted or the hotter the water the stronger it is. It wasn't until college when need forced me to turn to it and even then it was with lots of milk and sugar at first. Love my Bialetti Moka brewer. Who knew you could make everything form espresso to iced coffee without paying hundreds of dollars. Really surprised how few people have this thing.

I used to drink a pot a day now I have a cup maybe once a wk & I only drink really good coffee made in my French press. I've learned I used to drink it just to drink it I wasn't actually enjoying it but now when I have a cup I really savor it.

Out of the drinks they served, the mocha is the only one that is to be served with cream and sugar (mocha sauce, not so much sugar). Assuming the "macchiato" was a latte macchiato, that is only to be served with milk. The only coffee drink that is "meant" to have cream or sugar added to taste is brewed coffee; really what i'm saying is they served the drinks just fine.

I just got into drinking coffee thing recently and unsweetened coffee is kinda less enjoyable to drink for me. I'm ok with the bitterness (not black coffee though. Like coffee+milk unsweetened) but the lack of sweetness makes my brain goes "Wait, something's missing"
I absolutely LOVE my 3 cup Bialetti moka brewer..! I cant believe how few coffee drinkers have this thing, and instead pay from $3 to $8 for an espresso at a café. Even if i buy pretty expensive coffee, it still only cost $1 to make a cup, and around 25 cent if i buy 1kg of Lavazza beans. With regular coffee, i get this "sour stomac" feeling and feel somewhat "jittery" if i drink too much. Darker roasted beans transforms some acids in the beans into some kinda sugar, and as a result i avoid the "sour stomac", and just feel more "focused" and high energy instead of that crappy "jittery" feeling - and i dont get as strong cigarette cravings, which is nice as im trying to transition back to ecig.

Second, you start with a ton of sugar and creamer, and gradually reduce the amount to as little as you can go and still think it tastes good. I started as a young child drinking sugar and milk with a bit of coffee. I graduated to eventually drinking black coffee all day every day.. Now as a 34 year old I'll occasionally drink a cup. One scoop of sugar and one scoop of cream.

Not going to lie, I spit my first ever mouthful of coffee out into a sink. It wasn't until college when need forced me to turn to it and even then it was with lots of milk and sugar at first.
I now drink it black because I genuinely love the taste, but that 'easing' into it was so necessary.
I'm in my late 20s but I'm starting to add tspns of sugar and milk now. I'm learning to enjoy the bitterness of coffee. Slowly but I'll get there I guess 😆

Love my Bialetti Moka brewer. Who knew you could make everything form espresso to iced coffee without paying hundreds of dollars. Really surprised how few people have this thing.
I've tried it often, still tastes and smells foul. Reminds me of corporate board rooms and pyramid scheme presentations, so I get the psychological heebie jeebies from it too. Just smelling it races my heart.

well yes the coffee from starbucks ect taste bitter, good quality coffee roasted right actually taste amazing and not really bitter, you can actually taste the citrus or chocolate or flowery notes in it.
If your coffee smells like dirt, then it is probably made from burnt coffee beans. A really good coffee has a really smooth smell. It should smell like caramel.

Coffee is one of those things that I love but can easily understand how someone else might not like it. I used to drink a pot a day now I have a cup maybe once a wk & I only drink really good coffee made in my French press. I've learned I used to drink it just to drink it I wasn't actually enjoying it but now when I have a cup I really savor it.

Out of the drinks they served, the mocha is the only one that is to be served with cream and sugar (mocha sauce, not so much sugar). Assuming the "macchiato" was a latte macchiato, that is only to be served with milk. The only coffee drink that is "meant" to have cream or sugar added to taste is brewed coffee; really what i'm saying is they served the drinks just fine.
If you have to put a crap load of cream and sugar in a drink to make it taste good what's the point of drinking it. I've drunk coffee with creamer and sugar and I still can't bare it.
I just got into drinking coffee thing recently and unsweetened coffee is kinda less enjoyable to drink for me. I'm ok with the bitterness (not black coffee though. Like coffee+milk unsweetened) but the lack of sweetness makes my brain goes "Wait, something's missing"

I absolutely LOVE my 3 cup Bialetti moka brewer..! I cant believe how few coffee drinkers have this thing, and instead pay from $3 to $8 for an espresso at a café. Even if i buy pretty expensive coffee, it still only cost $1 to make a cup, and around 25 cent if i buy 1kg of Lavazza beans. With regular coffee, i get this "sour stomac" feeling and feel somewhat "jittery" if i drink too much. Darker roasted beans transforms some acids in the beans into some kinda sugar, and as a result i avoid the "sour stomac", and just feel more "focused" and high energy instead of that crappy "jittery" feeling - and i dont get as strong cigarette cravings, which is nice as im trying to transition back to ecig.

I remember sneaking my Grandma's coffee when I was little, how can anyone go that long without having at least tasted it before? Seems strange to me. Second, you start with a ton of sugar and creamer, and gradually reduce the amount to as little as you can go and still think it tastes good. I found as I got older, I liked my coffee stronger and stronger. I guess it is an acquired taste.
It tastes foul. Take some beans, any beans, burn them on the stove, strain water through them, tell us what you get.
Coffee can be bitter but I love the bitterness the strength the buzz and simply makes you feel like life's worth living

Ireland isn't in the UK but yes over here and in Britain we drink more tea than coffee.
Up until a couple of years ago, I'd never had coffee either. I hated the smell of it and imagined that I'd hate the taste. So my wife offered me some of hers once. And I hate the taste. So we're out there.

BUT, it's not"profound" it's just the way it's supposed to be enjoyed. adding cream and sugar is a modern adaptation after espresso was invented.
They'd probably take more to something like a traditional Ethiopian coffee since it's closer to tea that most of the stuff from elsewhere

+Otter I didn't start drinking coffee until I was 38, right about the time we had our kid, I think STILL that black coffee is horrendously bad so I mask the taste with coffee creamer. But a dirty chai or a latte with several shots of espresso are terrific. It just can't taste like I'm drinking coffee.
