I was a bartender for many years in Minnesota so it's not just a southern thing. It is definitely a club shot though. You're not going to order them at TGIFridays with dinner. You're going to order them at a club with a big, butt ugly doorman who makes you wait in line for no real good reason.

as a bartender, it drove me absolutely insane that they aren't shaking mixed shots. it's literally not the same shot if you just pour the ingredients into a glass.
Not sure why they didn't mix it then pour servings into the novelty glasses. Only drinks that call for layers should be unmixed.
