    Working on my first kit (tamiya churchill) Its abit old aswell but i just love how well it comes together and not to complicated. First time using airbrush aswell but i love every minute of this hobby and learning new stuff. Anyway i really like Panthers and Jagdpanthers so maybe this kit would be a nice starter once i buildt a few britt tanks.
    Thanks for sharing.

Its a great community to be part of, with lots and lots of great people more than willing to help out our fellow modelers with tips and advice! I have the Churchill Crocodile in my stash which is the same base kit as yours, I am super looking forwards to building it up as those old kits still hold up today. And their Panther family is very nice indeed, with the Ausf D being a new tool and is a gorgeous kit!

    Good job Shane, excellent presentation as always!
    I have yet to build a German Panther and I want to keep the Ardennes theme, so I need a G model. I have narrowed it down to this old Tamiya kit or the Meng TS-054, RFM 5018, Dragon 6070 or the Academy 13529. The Tamiya or Academy kits would be the simplest and therefore the most enjoyable and it has been a while for me building an Academy kit...but you make a hard case for this one! Another watch and you made have made it an easier choice. Thanks again.

    Great review. Shane, you're right about these figures being a bit rough, but Tamiya figures have REALLY improved in the last few years and are now easily the best of the major manufacturers. As well, Tamiya is improving a lot of these older kits (Wespe etc.) to address shortcomings like the tracks. Take a look at the figures in the Wespe kit or the Fiat M13.

      true that Tamiya continue to push forward and offer improved product packages and add ons that make life easier for us, while still maintaining their easy to build quality

    • @jimmytgoose476

      The add-ons are far too expensive and should be included in the kit . Tamiya are exploiting modellers and have lost me as a customer - i won't buy any more of their armour kits .

  • @Ebergerud
    @Ebergerud 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Some armor fans don't have high regard for Tamiya. I don't get it. You can super detail these kits if you want - if you don't you'll just have to live with the remarkable engineering that marks the company. DML makes good stuff for sure, but every Dragon of CyberHobby model I've made has had a moment of serious suspense involved - sometimes coming from trying to make sense out of their instructions. I did the Tamiya Panzerjager last year (2015 new tool) and it was splendid. Their new Panther, SU-76 and Easy-Eight look terrific - they better be because I've got them all.

    • @longlance67
      @longlance67  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think those opinions more speak to the pretentiousness of some modelers rather than any fault with the kit as they not meet their lofty standards. Personally I like Tamiya as they are fun kits to build, and acceptable accurate for most needs. Though they are showing their age in some kits and can be a little expensive for what you are getting in the negative side of things
      Also Dragon has gone way down hill over the last few years and have become stupidly expensive .

    • @jimmytgoose476
      @jimmytgoose476 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tamiya's modern kits - since the 90s - are mostly very good but they aren't cheap even compared to Dragon ; their Panther D has optional "upgrades" that come as standard in Dragon kits and ends up costing more - around 80 coins in the UK . At the very least the tanks that need them should come complete with the pe grill covers etc.
      Frankly, it puts me off the brand .

    • @longlance67
      @longlance67  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Mark,
      I built kit many years ago when I was a child, and it builds up easily though the details are what you would expect from a 1970s kit, pretty chunky and soft with some clean up required. The tracks if I remember were disasters and had to melt them together, as for accuracy I really can't comment on that aspect as my I no expert of Panther by any stretch.
      I did remember it being a simple build if that is any help but will require a lot of work to get the most out of the kit

    • @longlance67
      @longlance67  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Panther A kit came out in the 1970s so it show every bit it's age. My Panther G was a 90s kit so it builds up wonderfully. Are you putting your road wheels in the right order? As sometimes they can interfere with each other when mixed up

    I like the staples as you can look at the sprues then put them back in the bag to protect them. Yes still a pretty nice kit... especially for the novice. If you can get it for a really good price it can work but with Meng releasing their Panthers this one is unfortunately pretty dated. Great review BTW. Tamiya figures work out at about 4 foot. Whats wrong with them? Tamiya never include engine grills. If they do, they charge 20 quid extra. Got their Panther D. It was a total rip off. One has to spend more money to finish it. Tamiya don't like selling anything for less then 100 quid. Dragon panthers are miles better. Tamiya kits are very good at starting fires, if your firelighters run out. Great reviews! Keep up the good work!
