I went out this morning and picked 2 lbs of blackberries while walking the dog. I have the 500 scratch marks to show for it 😂 So this is in the freezer right now and I can’t wait to try it!! Perfect timing for this video, thank you!
Blackberries are something I have in abundance....in Western Washington, if you stand in one spot too long, you'll have one growing up your pant leg....and an Alder tree up the other.
I’ve had good luck gently heating the cream and dissolving in chocolate drink mix (Ovaltine in my case, but I bet Mexican tablet-style would work too.) Maybe you could even melt a whole dark chocolate bar in. Then, I cool it to fridge temp and whip from there.
I imagine using regular chocolate syrup (or, Chef John has a recipe for that too) and sweetened condensed milk would work. It would probably just come down to the ratio of chocolate mixture to the whipped cream to make sure it combines correctly. Maybe mix in some mini marshmallows and chopped almonds. But I’m getting ahead of myself…
I love it! "The Olllllldddd Blackberry Smash." Considering we still have about 30lbs of berries in the freezer and my seedless jam turned into more of a syrup, we'll be making this tonight.
For years I have been saying that blackberry ice cream is delicious and perfect for an apple crumble or pie......yummy and the perfect autumnal sweet treat 🤗
I love blackberry ice cream. I used to be able to get it when I lived back east, but I haven't seen it since moving west of the Mississippi. Thanks for the recipe, I can't wait to try this out.
I made his No Churn Carrot Cake Ice Cream and made it keto. Made my own sweetened condensed milk keto friendly. Later I made homemade Neopalitan ice cream and keto toppings for banana splits. Chef John's no churn ice cream base is my go to recipe for homemade keto flavored ice cream
@@taiiiz3969 given that milk contains lactose and lactose is fructose+galactose, and that lactase just breaks those apart. There's...really not a real way to do that. I have no idea what this guy is on about
You take whole milk and sweetener alternative of your choice and simmer it until it's reduced by half. Cool it down in the refrigerator for 24 hours before using. I just found the recipe for making sweetened condensed milk and subbed out the sugar for the sweetener alternative. The same with Chef John's recipe. I will say that using anything with erithotyl in it does alter the texture of the ice cream. So if you can find allulose or something without erithotyl then it will probably turn out better. If not, then it's not bad, just a different mouth feel
I plan to try this using black raspberries next year. For those who don't know, black raspberries have magical properties, with some people in Leutoniia reported to have lived 160 years plus on a steady diet of them.
I made this yesterday. I didn't have blackberries, but I had pecans. I made butter pecan no churn ice cream. Oh my! This is bad. Bad, bad, bad. I don't want to share it, but I don't want the guilt of eating the whole thing. I'll share it. A little goes a long way as it is very sweet and rich. I'm excited to make different flavors. This ice cream makes the 11th or 12th recipe I've made of Chef John's. He has not let me down so far.
I use a Cuisinart soft serve ice cream maker, chop 1 1/2 cups of fresh blackberries in food mini processor, pass through sieve to remove seeds( very tedious but worth it), use basic vanilla ice cream recipe but substitute buttermilk for whole milk. You won’t be disappointed. Much darker purple color than Chef John’s, for what it’s worth.
I give you a challenge. Try the black currant ! We ( in the US ) haven't had that for 100 years and is just starting to show up. I've got 4 black current and 3 elderberry shrubs. Yummm. Spread the the taste.
Blackberries are so underrated. The ice cream looks delicious, but I'm going to try and make it with monkfruit sweetener to cut back on the sugar. 🍨🤞 Thanks for posting.
Looks delicious! What size container was that you froze it in? 2 quarts? What other berries will this work with (I see some comments mentioning strawberries)?
decades ago, I worked, very briefly, at a French restaurant in Americus, Georgia (it was the late '70s, Carter was President and Plains, Ga. was 15 miles away). The chef\owner (who did nothing to change the stereotype of temperamental prima donna chefs - knife throwing included) made a dessert "crepes princess"- a crepe with vanilla icecream, strawberry and whipped cream. I bet this blackberry ice cream would make an even better dessert.😊
I just made this with mulberries as they are in season here in Australia. OMG OMG OMG. I managed to just have a small serving because I want it to last!
Currently freezing in my freezer! I added lemon zest to the berries as they simmered and more lemon juice to taste before in folded in the whipped cream. 😋👌
Smashing unfrozen fruit into the ice cream is indeed the way to go, for both texture and flavor. I've made strawberry ice cream with slices of strawberries frozen along with it, and not only do you need to defrost the fruit chunks in your mouth to actually taste them, they are no fun swirling around in there. With blackberries you'll only get annoyed, but with strawberries or mango you might be giving the roof of your mouth some unwanted ventilation.
Half way through this video I thought "there's no churning back now!"
You've been watching this channel too long 😂
That's a good one 😂💯
I hate you so much 😂😂

Just in time for a long weekend! My wife and I are invited to a BBQ and were told to bring “beautiful purple ice cream”. Thanks Chef John
What an oddly specific request
This was my dad’s favorite flavor, thanks Chef John
My dad’s too!
What does he like now?
My mom's 😊
@@theycallmekdawgthis phrasing usually means their dad has passed away
He had good taste!

Oh yes, just picked a huge bowl full of backberries. Yummy❤
Please! Do more of these no churn ice cream recipies! How do I get a truly chocolate version, what about coconut or mint choc chip? I could go on… ❤❤❤
Whip double cream with green food coloring and mint extra t, fold in condensed milk as usual, then dark chocolate chips :3

Optional but mandatory. Lol.
How did it go :)
I've done this with strawberries, and it works out very well too.
I made the Blackberry version of this recipe and love it. Today I made a Strawberry version of this recipe. Love it too.
Love ripe blackberries and am looking forward to trying this wonderful recipe! Thanks, Chef John!
Yum! This looks delicious!
With Oreo 😇💥🤤
Good lord this looks amazing. I'm gonna make it. Chef John, you are my hero.
I love your voice. The cadence…ahh and the recipes are good, too. Listening for years 💕
Blackberry is my _favorite_ berry, and this looks delicious!
My blackberries are ripening beautifully this year. This no churn ice cream is definitely on my to make list. Thank you.
Thanks chef John
Looks outstanding and very easy. Never had much luck with ice cream
Thank you chef! Just divine!
Great timing and great recipe! Thank you berry much!
I'm going to have to try this with raspberries...
Heeyy! Just wondering what have you used..?? Can you please tell me? In the video he says whip cream but in the linked recipe says heavy cream 😭
@@DisruptorK at least where I'm at heavy cream and whipping cream are pretty much the same, and that's what I've used. Turned out pretty good!!
@@riuphane woaaahh thank you so muuch! Did not expect such a fast reply, haha🤍 have an amazing day!
@@DisruptorK haha, just caught me at a good time. Good luck!
This is excellent! Another recipe that I can use my wild blackberries in! 😊
For years I have been saying that blackberry ice cream is delicious and perfect for an apple crumble or pie......yummy and the perfect autumnal sweet treat 🤗
Thanks, looks delicious. I made blackberry jam this summer.
You are definitely the savior --- of your ice cream flavor
Amazing simple easy-to-use to follow recipe as always. ♥️💙
I’ve been making various kinds of ice cream like this since you made the carrot cake no churn ice cream. Delicious!
I lost count on the times I made his CarrotCake IceCream. 😋
I love blackberry ice cream. I used to be able to get it when I lived back east, but I haven't seen it since moving west of the Mississippi. Thanks for the recipe, I can't wait to try this out.
i enjoy your humorous comments. thanks for the content :)
My all time favorite flavor -and so hard to find. Thank you !
Looks fantastic. White peach ice cream with a little bourbon vanilla is also xtra fine.

I have Huckleberry picked this season... I can't wait ..to tweak this
Great recipe Chef!
If my blackberries grace me with a sufficient harvest this year (which I hope they will) I am definitely making this. Thank you!
1:48 gosh that color is gorgeous 5:03 so is that color!
Love Blackberries.
Spoon Guide! Great tip!
I now tell my kids brushing their teeth is now “optional but mandatory.”
That looks good. I bet that would work well with all kinds of berries.
Blackberry ice cream is my favorite! There is a small ice cream place less than a block from my house that makes it. I always get the blackberry!
This No-Churn Blackberry Ice Cream recipe looks so delicious 😋 Chef John.
Another superb recipe by Chef John and Food Wishes.
This looks wonderful!

Thank U for the recipe. I will experiment….salude.
I made this with strawberries. Delicious!
👍 Thanks! Looks delicious! 🤤
Thank you Chef John!! My property here in southern Oregon is COVERED in blackberries.. I feel like the Dirty Harry of that thorny berry….
Oooh I think I'll try this with blueberries!
I just harvested over 3 kgs (6.6 lbs) of blackberries! This is perfect!!
Whenever I see someone make icecream, I'm always reminded of the fact we're eating a ton of frozen whipped cream 😅
Brilliant!
My all-time favorite ice cream. The local place started putting chocolate chunks in theirs a few years ago. Not as good. I'm definitely making this.
Looks great John & I bet it tastes WOW! Is the condensed milk necessary or could it be left out of the recipe?
I like when he says "the oooold smash-a-smash", and gets that throaty sheep bleating going 🙂

Hell yeahhh! I put chopped milky ways and drizzled raspberry syrup in mine before I froze it !
I very much want this
Excellent
Wo oh, black berry bam ba lam!

I just made a Strawberry version today. Yum.
I re-use 4 Talenti (brand) Ice Cream Jars (pint) to freeze it.
I will be adapting this recipe when i pick brambles later in the year. They aren't quite ready yet.

Not a big ice cream fan but I think I'm going to give it a go for Labor Day and see what everybody thinks🎉
Can i use this same recipe to make black raspberry ice cream? I imagine it would be amazing

awesome recipe chef , please show PORTUGUESE BORREGO ASSADO and CALDEIRAD and ENSOPADO recipe please
I'm severely lactose intolerant so I can't have this, but man does that look good!
Perfect. Can only be made perfecter by chucking in some Cornish clotted cream! IMHO.
But as I have an electric freezer/churn/ice cream maker could I use that for the last stage from about the cream addition point?
As the Ice Cream Churns....😊😊😊
Can we make other ice creams this way?
The smash method is genius. I think it would also look georgous if there would be some purple blackbeery and white whipped cream swirls
