Removing Metal Filings from Magnets

- A common problem in the shop is trying to remove metal filings from magnets. This is especially annoying in a welding shop where grinding and cutting filings will always find their way to the magnet. Our simple solution will help you to quickly remove the filings from your magnets and help to prevent the need to touch the filings with your hands.

Nicely done Mr. Harvey. Thanks for sharing the tip. People like you make the world a better place.
Great video. You could also use a strip of duct tape after brushing to get rid of the few remaining bits.
I do this with the same type of SS brush but I do it over my vacuum hose. But that last lil bit is always hard to get. Duct tape sounds smart
Cheers dude, just worked a treat for me. Nice 1
Just started welding, and bro, you thanks so much! just saved me from a massive headache...
Sometimes simple solutions are worth their weight in gold... so glad you found the video helpful! Thank you
Thank you for the vid! Will use this technique in the next few days.
An old plastic bristle toothbrush will do a good job too...and it does not scratch the magnet
Any big wire brush will work dude you're a legend
Thanks!!
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, simple and easy.
Thanks
Thanks for sharing
Great idea and tutorial vid, will try.
Thanks for the tip. Only had stiff nylon brush handy, but in about 2 minutes had 7 welding magnets cleaned like new.
Hey! That's great! I never tried it with Nylon Brushes, might take a little longer, but if it works, that's one more trick up your sleeve! Keeping those welding magnets clean is a full time job so anything that makes it easier is a good help. Happy New Year!
Thank you
Great vid but im laughing so hard at “a whole lot fasta and a whole lot quicka” 😂😂
I use a rare earth magnet in a plastic bottle. Rub it around the magnet, shake it over the trash.
Admittedly, I don't have a plastic case with those dimensions lying around but you could hypothetically cover the magnet with it, gather the metal scrap and remove the case from the magnet above a waste bin to discard the collected scrap. I think it would prolong the lifespan of your magnet and keep it cleaner than brushing it.
thanks!
Good tip. I'll have to try that. You said to use stainless steel. I was wondering if you could use a brass bristle brush since it's a non-conductive metal. Thanks again.
Give it a try!
Gloves gloves gloves!
Why didn't I think of that? (While slapping forehead)
I use an air gun. 90PSI, blow them right off cheap magnets.
Terrible idea. Then it puts tiny filings all over the shop. Use the Brush...
I used to use chewing gum
Shop vacuum cleaner.
Thank you
Glad to be of help!
