When Europe strongest man came to Leeds it pretty much sold out. Britains strongest man sells out. It has potential, in the age of Crossfit, fitness and health people are interested again.
I'm not a lifter or even a gym rat, just a regular fat guy. But I find these competitions extremely interesting, much more so than most pro sports. I'm a huge fan of Brian Shaw, and love seeing the amount of work that he and his competitors put into this, as well as the camaraderie between them. Some better production value would definitely go a long way towards opening this up to the masses. Strongmen with celebrity status like Halfthor also play a part (he's what drew me to these, and Brian Shaw kept me watching the last few years) in attracting viewers and fans.
Live? These take place over many days and it takes a tremendous about of setup time for a few short lifts. These would NOT be fun to watch live, believe me.

Brian is stronger but i think Thor is a bit more athletic, ergo why Brian excels in heavy heavy lifting but why Thor threw the bag higher and why did more reps, arguably 4 if he had 10 more sexs
I wouldn't ascribe extra log lift reps to athleticism. I mean, sure there is some technique involved in lifting that log, but it's mostly pure pressing strength. It's not like a jerk where precise technique will give you tons of extra kgs on the bar.
Not to be that guy, if you think there is little technique in pressing a log, you are incorrect. Breathing is the most important thing, and if you don't have your breaths coming and going correctly, you'll fall a lift. You have to know how to roll a log up your stomach with getting your belly under it, otherwise you'll fall. You have to know how to position your arms because the weight is not like a cleaned bar, but instead 8+ inches away from your chest. Plenty of technique, not just brute strength. Give it a try some time, you'll see.
Commentators were horrible. I highly doubt that Jerry Pritchett was getting hyped up on his first rep of the god damn Austrian Oak while hearing someone talk about how he works as a metal fabricator
Not hatting or trying to take anything away from the podium winners (not like it is even possible), but this wasn't the same without Eddie and Zydrunas, having them both the competition would've been more balanced. This year's WSM is going to be freakish if Big Z can get fit again for the competition.
The announcers aren't bad it's just that to have a good commentary team there needs to be a color commentator and a play by play guy, in this case we had two color commentators

Yeah adn the whole stream was terrible, they should start looking how for example the DOTA 2 and LOL community is doing their streams. The music and the constant cringe talking made it such a terrible production value. They could have added some cool shots from intervjues and training while they where stiching gear between the yolk and farmers carry for example. I hope they learn for next year cause if they bump the stream up and do some commercial about it (cause almost none knew they would stream) they would get thousands more wathcing.

Big Z has won the Arnold classic so many times, he stated there would be no point in competing in it any longer. He is training for Worlds Strongest man. I don't think he is injured. I did here, however that his father recently passed away. I believe he will win WSM in honor of his father. Will be rooting for him.
I don't get it why you people criticize so badly the 2 commentators. We live in a fucking world where everything must be perfect. Fuck your world and fuck perfect. I love how awkward they were, they brought a sense of how humans are, with flaws and imperfections and they just were 2 normal guys having a conversation over these events. I loved it. Fanis93 Plus Bill Kazmaier is one of the greatest strongmen ever. First ever to bench 661.. He was truly a brute savage in his day. If he were competing today.. Given the extra "tools" used today.. He'd probably give Shaw and Thor a run for their money. He didn't have the best cardio.. But brute strength, there's few who come close. At 330-340 he was strict over-head pressing 495 for reps.. If he got up to 375 on today's gear.. Truly strongest man on the planet. Idgaf what ppl think, Kaz is the man. I guarantee every man who competed at this event, knows who Bill is and in some way had aspired to acheive what he achieved. I'm sure these guys look at Bill as a legend.. Soooo he's more than qualified to narrate this event.
I'd rather see Mark Henry do ballet wearing a pink tutu than hear him make one more comment into the mic again. Kaz wasn't much better either. Much respect to both these guys for what they did in their time, but please get someone like Colin Bryce or Big Loz to comment in the future.
