So Ariel wasnt black but they picked a black actress to play her that's ok. But having a white woman dress up as asha is wrong? That's so hypocritical and such a double standard. What make one "representation" and one racism? Why is one on and not the other? Little black girls deserve an Ariel that looks like them but little white girls can't have an asha? The beautiful thing about Disney princesses is that the audience is color blind. It’s the character of the princesses themselves that people relate to. Maybe you’re not color blind, but that mama and blonde little girl are.
This is also true. Though skin tone also doesn’t play a big role in movies, stories like Tiana’s rely on the characters race. It made her stand out and helped her because of her race during that time period.
@@pinkybro5671 fair point. That was about black washing an established character. The audience doesn’t appreciate it. Disney supports black washing but is adamantly against the opposite.

For those who don’t understand Asha is a black female. The parent wanted her to basically disrespect the entire black community by either making the character white or by black facing.
I am not trying to disrespect anyone I understand you don’t want to disrespect the black community by making a black character white but I would like to know why is it accepted to turn a white character black like in the little mermaid live action. Ps. I loved the actress and I loved the movie I am just trying to comprehend the equality.
😂 I’d probably just deadpan with a blank stare and say “you want me to do brown face for a child’s party?” Make them FEEL the uncomfortability of what they’re asking! 😂 you’re so much more polite about it
so um the little mermaid,,,I've noticed that red heads have almost no positive representation, and yet for the one that they do have, it was just fine to swap her for a different race?
Little Mermaid (2023) had Ariel played by Halle Bailey. Another actress; Brandy, played a lovely Cinderella in Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella (1997). Both of the animated Disney characters designs were heavily changed. I see people who don't look like a particular character, cosplay beloved characters all the time, No matter the ethnicity. I understand wanting a character to be accurately portrayed. You can still respect the original while introduceing your character portrayal as the same character, but just in another universe.
There is a difference tho. I cosplay all type ofcharacters, but she works directly with kids who genuinly think she is a princess, it's natural of her to want to keep the magic Also, she gets payed, it's her job, it's also understandable if she wants other people to get payed to represent their own cultures. It's a nice way of going about it
Though my point of view is a bit different. I understand & respect that opinion. Personally my cousin is a rentable princess for parties. She has never gotten disrespected for appearing as Aurora or as any character that wouldn't accurately represent her. She's of blasian decent.
I feel like it's saying that people with darker skins can't play princesses with lught skin tones. I know what you meant but really i feel that everybody can play whoever they want
Lol, literally a company based off of this. Because there's only so many princesses people who are Black can "accurately portray", and representation matters9but not to white people I guess), "Black Princess Parties" allow children to feel represented as the same race of their favourite Disney character. Obviously we know the real reason is that if word got out, there's a non-zero chance her business would get ratioed.
Not really because she needs to look like Asha who is afro-latina meaning her skin is darker and Brooke wants to make kids think she is Asha, and if kids see a white Asha they will know that it's not her and get upset
Representation is soo great ! Especially when your younger.I’m just gonna put this out there though I’m still waiting for a Hispanic Disney Princess !!! Me and my friends talk about it a lot (we’re Hispanic) about how we don’t have a Disney princess that we can relate to.
I love wish so much and I was happy to hear that they wanted a wish party because I love all the songs I literally hear it almost every day so I’m happy they wanted Asha from ❤
She really spoke the truth in this. Even with Tiana, Asha, Moana, and so many other PC princesses/or characters, we still don't have that many to represent us respectfully or correctly. **cough cough** Disney... **cough cough**
And the daughter probably doesn't want it, because like the mom said: Obsessed with Asha. Being a Party Princess is more like a job than cosplaying or dress up
I think that it's not racist for someone of one race to portray a person of another race. I see it as a way of showing flattery and appreciation. I also think that it should work both ways, with people of other races being able to portray white characters. It's to much fuss over nothing and people are to dramatic
Glad somebody said it because if a white person is seen playing a person of color, people say it’s white washing but yet people of color play a character that is supposed to be white bc that’s how the author wrote them and there little to no fuss so much fuss over nothing
I do, when people of a certain group have endless of characters for their group of people. Also, when you start with discrimination, don’t think other people should or will accept you with open arms. It’s not cultural appreciation for all.
@@kaebelle3000 who discriminating? If you want to play the victim card and say that everyone is racist I want examples. And you shouldn't have to change something or tear something down to lift someone else up. Disney just wanted a quick buck and didn't want to make an original, new character of color.
@@kaebelle3000 your problem is that you see in color. The point of these characters is that every girl can relate to them.. but your so busy looking at race that you don't even acknowledge their other good characteristics.
That is so respectful of you. I feel like most people would just take the job for the money, without thinking about how they would be disrespecting POC. To some it may seem like the bare minimum, but I’ve just gained more respect for you :) ❤❤
i guess i dont totally understand this. I completely agree that representation for all races is incredibly important. My confusion is that characters originally portrayed as white people, have also been portrayed as black people, maybe im missing something, and let me know if i am, but i don't totally understand why you cant play Asha. Let me know if you have any feedback for me.
@@mukurolkusabawell, by that logic, only a real-life mermaid should play Ariel and only someone with black hair should play Jasmine. And only someone male should play a male character.
Personally, I don't think representation is that important. I never cared or saw skin color as a kid. My favorite princesses are literally Jasmine and Tiana. I don't look nothing like them. My mom's is mulan. She doesn't look like her. I think we focus too much on it as a society, so now everyone's conscious of it. What happened to the real story of just being a good person. I loved that Tina chased her dream no matter how hard life got! I loved Jasmine because of her name and pet tiger ngl. Im totally with you on not playing a character you look nothing like though. But maybe thats fine with what disneys been doing to princesses lol. 😂
@Minaiskindapreppy I agree with you. It's not accurate for her to play Asha. It's also not accurate for the new little mermaid movie that the actor didn't look like ariel. It's also not accurate for a Latina to play snow white since she doesn't look like her. It's just what's been happening unfortunately. But at least she says no to those kind of job offers! And she says it so sweet and respectfully in the video!
This is just like when they used a black woman to play Ariel, (a white girl) in "The Little Mermaid", and in the new "Snowhite" movie, they are using a Hispanic woman to play a white girl who got her name from the color of her skin. And everyone is and was somehow fine with that?! 🤨 I'm sure if they made a live action "The Princess and the Frog" and turned Tiana into a white girl, the BLM community would have a dramatic meltdown. 🙄 If they want to make a original character of a different race, that's great! 😁 I love to watch movies with characters of different races! ❤ But don't change the original character's race because you're too lazy to design a new character. Love you, Brooke! And have a happy new year, everyone!!! 🥰
@roseville412 I don't have beef with anyone, I am just saying that BLM would be angry and start attacking people if Disney or any other channel changed a character's race from black to white.
When it comes to cosplaying I feel like anyone can cosplay any character but for things like this I believe you wanting those characters to have proper representation is very important ♥️ cause I’m sure even the mothers kid in the skit would want Asha to not look just like her and more so how Asha looks canonically
Exactly, when looking around the cosplay community it’s more about dressing up as a character. Which anyone can do. But when you are a party princess your job is to look and act like if the princess came off screen. If a kid wanted Tiana and who shows up is a white Tiana the kids will not think it’s Tiana.
I hate when people act like representation doesn’t matter. I always prefer Belle because she had similar hair as me.😂 I’m not a POC, but I understand the feeling of being left out. I’m glad that Disney is taking a serious effort to make people feel included and seen.
Bro, that lady is crazy, that’s like asking a black lady to play Elsa💀 (There’s nothing wrong with Black People, it’s just that Elsa is white in the movies, I love everyone🫶🏻)
Nick Fury from Mavel is actually white, I've got no problem with him being black. My problem is when we can't turn a black character white because we'll be cancelled. Has no one experienced Halloween? Dress up? We make characters to enjoy them, not cage them into fixed positions unless (& I say this strongly) the creator themselves asks people not to mess with their characters. The creator of a character is the only person allowed to police what is done to it.
At the cosplay scene everyone can do what they want, no matter what skin colour the charakter have. Clearly without black or whitefacing. But for a party princess your points are understandable.
Representation is just so important and I will always try to help spread that message! This video is actually longer with more of an explanation at the end. You can find that version on my TikTok @brookecarolineb

Now that sounds racist to me.
I swear parents of little kids are so much more spoiled and airheaded anyone I know
I love how you handled this situation so nice🤩
Let's take Tiana (because she existed as I was a kid)
If somebody told me that Tiana would come, I would absolutely be sooo happy!
(Even if l am white latina, most people think first that I come from Vietnam or something in Asia)
If a blondy Tiana would have stepped in... I would have throw a tantrum.
I am the person to say: "that doesn't happens in the book."
So... What do you think would happen if you gave me a blond Tiana?!!!!!!!??
Yes Brooke. I am so happy the you understand and follow something that Disney hasn't been recently!
Sooo... we gonna discount Ariel?
@@rookmagoriumwtf do you mean that was an example of them plowing over a danish character in favor of forcing the character to be black how would that be a point for Disney at all?
Thank you for being so respectful and acknowledging that it just wouldn’t be the done thing
Omg ppl that do this are rly annoying. 😂 i love how gentle you r to everyone even karens. This is so true tho
Thank you, Brooke, for making amazing content and Happy New Year!!!!!!!!
Happy New Year!!
Happy new year 🎉🎉🎉
I love how respectful you were when talking to her
as a cosplayer i see no problem with that ..... But yea we also cosplay opposite genders and monsters xD
Cosplay is usually for adults who understand that you aren't actually the character. This is for little kids that often think the princess is real 😊
There’s a difference between cosplaying and portraying
@@queer_unicornLittle kids literally don't see skin color, unless taught otherwise. This woman is just trying to virtue signal how progressive she is, by making it the kid's problem.
You have a Heart Of Pure Gold ❤👑
As someone who looks exactly like Asha, Wish made me so happy! Thank you so much for acknowledging how important it is for representation!
No one can look exactly like an animated character
Thank you so much! We need more people like you!❤
I love that you do that. I was and am one of the little girls that look like Asha, and I never saw a lot of princess or characters that looked like me ❤.
Danesse red head little mermaid agrees with this 😂
I don’t want to offend anybody because but you can dress up as whatever princess you want to no matter your race personally I’m black and I don’t care what skin color the character has as long as they have good character then there isn’t a problem but I get where you’re coming from since its a little kid and your job
I love your videos! 🩷🩷🩷
Absolutely. Why characters shouldn’t be taken or switched as well. It does matter
And this makes you extra great 😊🌺
Damn. You really didn’t want to say “I’m not black”
I kinda saw that too
I think it goes to show how aggressive the black community has gotten. There are some things I have almost said, to only shut my mouth in fear it will be "offensive" or "racist"
Okay but on the flip side if my daughter who is blonde wants to be Asha, I will let her dress up as Asha! She is her favorite Disney character and I support her.
The beautiful thing about Disney princesses is that the audience is color blind. It’s the character of the princesses themselves that people relate to. Maybe you’re not color blind, but that mama and blonde little girl are.
Exactly! That's the whole point! Their character is what makes a Disney princess ❤️
This is also true. Though skin tone also doesn’t play a big role in movies, stories like Tiana’s rely on the characters race. It made her stand out and helped her because of her race during that time period.
Crazy considering many Disney fans threw a fit over the Little Mermaid remake (even though Disney has remade it with poc a few times now)
@@pinkybro5671 fair point. That was about black washing an established character. The audience doesn’t appreciate it. Disney supports black washing but is adamantly against the opposite.
@@louisejohnson4026 exactly… Disney fans are fine with whitewashing. Disney is fine with using poc as a money grab. And minorities and marginalized communities are left in the dark again.
Good job sorting this out!
If Ariel can be black, Asha can be white.
Well no, not exactly! She needs to look like Asha who is afro-latina meaning her skin is darker and Brooke wants to make kids think she is Asha, and if kids see a white Asha they will know that it's not her and get upset
@@Tipsy_On_Pawsif kids see a little mermaid who doesn’t have skin as clear and delicate as a rose-leaf, they’ll know that’s not the original little mermaid

As a kid I had slightly tan skin, dark brown hair and amber eyes. I always I needed to have light skin, blonde hair, and blue eyes because of the characters. Belle was the only one who looked like me. ❤
Encourage sponsors, very polite and true, and I just love how she says there’s no response this way because she tells them
Makes so much sense that you wouldn’t accept that! You shouldn’t have to play a character that you don’t feel comfortable portraying. So sorry that people are disrespectful of that! Love you so much!
I'm glad you took this like a respectful person and instead of just stopping and saying "Oh sure! I'd LOVE too!" just for the money, I'm glad you did this, KEEP SLAYING QUEEN!
Most party Princesses especially one who come from big company refused to do this because the money not worth what it cost to do damages control. All it take is one photo on to cause a fire storm that could destroy the actress and take down a whole company.
100%
im so upset with all these overly sensitive people in the comments. These are the people that praise disney for making arial black or praise netflix for making cleopatra black but if disney make tiana's actress white they would cancel disney.
How do they not understand that is racist?
@butterblixplayz5311 Tiana storyline literally had a lot to do with being black it a huge part of her backstory. Arial was a fish her skin tone had nothing to do with her storyline, which is a huge difference, dude.
If only Disney agreed with having actresses portray a character accurately
Their animated movies are never accurate to the source work.
i love you for this I'm 14 years old and Disney is like one of my favorite things but I'm African American and our community doesn't have many princesses and it always hurts my heart and for like half the movie Tiana was a frog anyways i haven't seen wish yet so i don't know the character as well but Asha she looks like me and she's one of the only princesses we got so we have to settle for it whenever i see black animated or live action things on tv heck i celebrate becuase its not that often they make og characters
POV you see the world in race. So much for "judge a man not by the color of his skin but by the content of his character"
It’s always weird when white people weaponize his quotes like this. Yes I see race, there’s a special name for people like you, it’s called color blind racism. Look it up
you absolutely slayed
For those who don’t understand Asha is a black female. The parent wanted her to basically disrespect the entire black community by either making the character white or by black facing.
I am not trying to disrespect anyone I understand you don’t want to disrespect the black community by making a black character white but I would like to know why is it accepted to turn a white character black like in the little mermaid live action.
Ps. I loved the actress and I loved the movie I am just trying to comprehend the equality.
FINALLY! I feel like so many people forget that.
And it's sad.
Thank you for respecting people of colors representation. We need more people like you.❤
😂 I’d probably just deadpan with a blank stare and say “you want me to do brown face for a child’s party?” Make them FEEL the uncomfortability of what they’re asking!
I cosplay all type ofcharacters, but she works directly with kids who genuinly think she is a princess, it's natural of her to want to keep the magic
Also, she gets payed, it's her job, it's also understandable if she wants other people to get payed to represent their own cultures. It's a nice way of going about it
Though my point of view is a bit different. I understand & respect that opinion.
Personally my cousin is a rentable princess for parties. She has never gotten disrespected for appearing as Aurora or as any character that wouldn't accurately represent her. She's of blasian decent.
@@sofiabruiz17 Yeah, that’s what she said in the end after she spewed the bs of “stick to your own race because the poor colored people are victims”
It's a movie. Filled with cartoon characters. Be an adult and take the job. It's money.
They didn't want to take the job, what did you not get. Be an adult.
If they can make aerial black you can go to a child’s birthday as asha.
Not really because she needs to look like Asha who is afro-latina meaning her skin is darker and Brooke wants to make kids think she is Asha, and if kids see a white Asha they will know that it's not her and get upset
@@Tipsy_On_Pawsum, Latina refers to latin America, which isn’t where Wish is set
Representation is soo great ! Especially when your younger.I’m just gonna put this out there though I’m still waiting for a Hispanic Disney Princess !!! Me and my friends talk about it a lot (we’re Hispanic) about how we don’t have a Disney princess that we can relate to.
I love wish so much and I was happy to hear that they wanted a wish party because I love all the songs I literally hear it almost every day so I’m happy they wanted Asha from ❤
i love the passive agressiveness
She really spoke the truth in this. Even with Tiana, Asha, Moana, and so many other PC princesses/or characters, we still don't have that many to represent us respectfully or correctly.
**cough cough** Disney... **cough cough**
Thank you so much for doing that you have no idea how happy it makes me!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤
If it was me i would've said ''GIRL I'M WHITE ''
Brook your so sweet I love your videos
Asha is a brunette, she wants a Disney princess that looks like her BLOND daughter
And the daughter probably doesn't want it, because like the mom said: Obsessed with Asha. Being a Party Princess is more like a job than cosplaying or dress up
That's why Belle was my favorite disney princess as a kid. She was the only brunette. She's still tied for top 3 but for better reasons.
@luketheduke268 I agree, good point
I could see the look on your face and the shaking in your hands, you were PISSED just having to resay it. I can relate lol

The way she thought that she looked just like Asha LIKE GURL have u seen Asha?😂
I’m just shaking my head right now. The literal cluelessness of some people! 🤦♀️
Brooke is an unproblematic queeen
Props for the way you handled it
Personally, I don't think representation is that important.
Still it’s not accurate and it’s offensive and raciste
@@Mina27637 do you understand the meaning of racism? 💀
@@Lunette-v9i yes it’s cultural appropriation. White people don’t play black people. For a very long time people used that as a form of racism
@@Lunette-v9iyes. Racism is the discrimination of someone based on there racial or ethnic group. I don't know why you'd ask such a silly question! 😊
This woman took "color blind" to a whole other level
Imagine if we told black women they can’t portray white princesses because it’s not representing them right. Bruh.
That does happen and I don't see anything wrong with it
ur so real for this
This is just like when they used a black woman to play Ariel, (a white girl) in "The Little Mermaid", and in the new "Snowhite" movie, they are using a Hispanic woman to play a white girl who got her name from the color of her skin. 🥰
What is your beef with BLM?
Ariel's white culture wasn't important to the story. Tiana's culture was. It's as simple as that.
@roseville412 I don't have beef with anyone, I am just saying that BLM would be angry and start attacking people if Disney or any other channel changed a character's race from black to white.
@@roseville412culture≠skin color.
Good for you!! It matters! ❤
I agree with this. Besides the kids wouldn’t believe it anyways.

I always prefer Belle because she had similar hair as me.😂
I’m not a POC, but I understand the feeling of being left out. I’m glad that Disney is taking a serious effort to make people feel included and seen.
Bro, that lady is crazy, that’s like asking a black lady to play Elsa💀
(There’s nothing wrong with Black People, it’s just that Elsa is white in the movies, I love everyone🫶🏻)
Many black women have played Elsa in the stage musical version of Frozen.
@@lautaroroldanpizzorno7494 ik but in the REAL movie
Thank you.
Ltic, Disney actually encourages messing with their characters.
My younger sister is obsessed with Disney’s wish too 😂😂😂
It wasn’t important to me. I liked all the princess and my favorite was Ariel. They weren’t my skin color. I hope the mom found her child an Aisha
At the cosplay scene everyone can do what they want, no matter what skin colour the charakter have. Clearly without black or whitefacing. But for a party princess your points are understandable.
