Yes, you could get a train from Wigan NW to Blackburn via Chorley. Post war few were using the service and a Ribble bus ran from Lower Adlington near White Bear station to Wigan by way of Wigan Lane. Number 304.
White Bear was a pub, with the Clayton Arms opposite.
After 1960, one passenger train used the route from Wigan to the R.O.F factory at Euxton, purely a workers' service. The R.O.F site is now a housing estate.

I use to work at Red Rock Railway Station in early 70’s when the station was closed but the station sidings and Wearhousing were in tacked.
I worked for a company who were used the station complex for building prefabricated houses, company then was called Swifthomes .It closed business at the end of the 70’s.
I had a friend whom I worked with and he had been a miner and worked if I remember rightly at Robin Hill Drift Mine and he informed me while he was working underground and under Red Rock Railway Line when the train overhead would pass them he said it was like the train was coming along the tunnel underground were the miners were working.

That was great. I love disused lines and the history of them. You two are great together. The way you pronounce bus as "buz" reminds me of s mate of mine from years back who was from your neck of the woods. You were right about there being some stunning bridges, especially the leaking bridge!
You have now become a staple of my youtube watching, and my wife refers to any part of a day where I watch your content as my "G spot".

Reminded me of a friend and myself walking a old line from old Trafford through to Denton (now a metro link route). But at the time an abandoned line still had the ballast down but no track at one point where the airport line crosses we heard a train and both instinctively jumped out of the way even though no railway tracks where we were walking 🤦

Great video. In the north east, there are more disused lines than working ones, it seems.
I've done every station from Hexham eastwards on the Tyne Valley line, up to Chathill on the ECML, down to York and across to Harrogate on that branch, the whole Durham Coast line down from Newcastle to Middlesborough, the Middlesborough to Bishop Auckland line, the line between Teesside and Northallerton on the ECML, then also Middlesborough to Saltburn and Nunthorpe (2022's big task is to do Nunthorpe down to Whitby (13 stops), and also tick off Berwick as the most northerly station in England (which btw isn't actually served by Northern)). 61 stations local (ish) to me, I really need to go a bit further and do other yorkshire stations. The north west is a little too far without staying in hotels.
