Does NMIXX deserve better, yes. Do they deserve some basic kpop song, no because the company knows they are so much more than that since they promote NMIXX so much. As someone who has listens to quite a lot of contemporary music most of the time song structure gets thrown out the window, so NMIXX music does not bother me. I can tell this is new territory for JYPE and anyone can tell their company wants them to go this direction (whether we like it or not) because they know NMIXX can pull it off. The producers have a vision, but is it just not fully there yet and we can all tell in the mixing, transitions, and production like you said. I hope they keep improving and make songs that are not too jarring like O.O, that is not so underwhelming like Dice, and the girls sound beautiful like Cool.
i bought 2 albums before the lineup was revealed because i had been waiting for lily's debut for a few years, but O.O made me decide not to buy anymore, just follow the group.because I already follow and collect other groups, I love the charisma of the NMIXX girls, but I prefer to spend my hard-earned money with a group that captivates me also for the music, as it has been with other gg rookies, I still follow the group and I'm really rooting for their success. It's such a shame that such an extremely talented group debuted in what appears to be JYPE's worst creative phase. they have all the talent in the world and the potential to reverse this negative image, but unfortunately it doesn't just depend on their hard work and talent, but on JYPE's ability to find music that values the girls' talents. looking forward for the next comeback
I'm one of those rare creatures who genuinely loved O.O on the very first listen, which is very rare for me (I usually need a few listens to like a song). It's my most played song of 2022 on Spotify and to this day a year later I still listen to it almost every single day and I'm not tired of it. I LOVE the roller coaster effect, I love feeling punched in the guts everytime Jinni goes "HOOK HOOK" and "NMIXX" and tbh I don't care too much for the lyrics, if I want lyricism I listen to songs in English or in my native language. Just wanted to give my perspective. :) Also funnily enough I didn't think Dice was as good (still like it but nowhere near as much as O.O) and Cool is my least favourite song by them, I just find it boring lol.
My immediate reaction was that JYP thought they could manufacture a girl group in the mold of Stray Kids but JYP underestimated the organic aspect of Stray Kids' music creation that brews in the brains of Bang Chan, Han and Changbin of the 3Racha subunit which is getting more and more confident with experimenting their way to very different music each time they cut an album. I suspect JYP thought they could replicate the success by assembling the talents in a very disparate fashion: vocalists and dancers who don't compose or write lyrics, and compensate that with a bunch of A-game producers. One can also see this beyond just NMixx or JYP. If you look at the evolution from 3rd to 4th generation for example, it is very telling. Red Velvet and Mamamoo are just so much more than almost all of the 4th gen girl group combined. Slick choreo and crazy fast editing cannot compensate for the shortcomings in raw talents when compared to MMM and RV.
They’re quite talented, but their music takes the spotlight away from them (I did really enjoy Dice because the last part feels like the main character in a martial arts movie is about to fight their nemesis on a narrow mountain ridge, and the camera is swooping around them to show the height and the precarious drop on either side of them as they stare each other down- that was cool)
Having a background as stage performer I hear a lot of medley songs that is why I can appreaciate and enjoy Nmixx songs. What I don't like are the shook shook off beat parts like in O.O and the rap parts inserted within the verses. --like majority of kpop (they need to utilize Nmixx's musicality) I think they lack a consistent melody with their songs, except Cool.
I mean JYP clearly had a plan to make something unique to this group (mixxpop) and hope it works. People just hate to hate, i personaly like their sound and so a lot of people judging by sales, its just that the haters are louder :)
The biggest problem NMIXX had was their timing. We saw NiziU debut shortly after Itzy. Granted, they were meant for the Japanese market anyways. But the massive floodgates of fourth gen girl group debuts really opened in late 2020 with Aespa. And with Iz*one disbanding shortly after, everyone was looking for the next big thing. And when you have so many groups, it’s only natural to compare them. And with comparisons, someone has to be on the bottom of the list. JYPE made it waaay too easy for NMIXX to occupy that spot. I’m actually pretty surprised that NMIXX debuted at all. Are there no market researchers in JYPE? Did nobody pay attention to the hate that Red Velvet got for debuting pretty soon after F(x)? Or the hate that Blackpink got for “being the reason why 2NE1 disbanded”? Nobody wants to see their faves being replaced. So, debuting so quickly after Itzy and not even letting them reach their prime was just… not a great business decision…
I love their members. Great talent. Visuals. Vocals are elite. But man their production and music don’t hit at all. It’s nothing close to what NewJeans is… and to me their the best GG music rn.
Yeah I definitely don’t hate them but it is clear they aren’t making music for me so I haven’t paid a lot of attention. That’s ok, there are plenty of other groups that are. Really with most of the 4.5 generation groups, I wait for them to find their footing before spending much time on them . In general they get an inordinate amount of support compared to their accomplishments in the beginning. Other established groups need the support more.
I personally agree with the sentiment that Itzy was going somewhere after Wannabe (viral shoulder dance) and mafia. But they have been loosing alot of traction recently and they do need improvement in their discography to be considered a big GG. I haven’t seen much talk abt their comebacks and even tho I enjoy them and initially stanned the group, there is no denying that they are falling behind the many other talented groups. (Don’t misinterpret this pls, Itzy is extremely talented performance, dancing, and singing wise). So yeah, I haven’t been able to keep up with Itzy after Boys Like You, and I personally think NMIX members are very talented but can’t follow the group. Their music is not really my cup of tea and the competition for rookie groups, specially rookie GG is very very high.
@@vivacetan6479 I’m pretty sure they have four. I would include the Japanese group too. NiziU, itzy, twice, and nmixx. It won’t help these groups if they start to sound like each other or not get the right amount of investment. This usually does happen alot when you end up managing too many groups.
@@vivacetan6479 Wow. You really are getting riled up. Chill my dude. If you and me have different opinions it is completely okay. Nothing to get to unhappy about. But your question could be reverse back to you. Tell me how many of these big companies that handles more then three girl groups has treated them all fairly and with the same amount of investment?…. Honestly I don’t really care for an answer cause you and me already know that answer to this. White flag. You win. If it makes you happy.
If I will honest, all of the members of NMIXX have the strongest and unique vocals in the 4th generation girl groups that debuted this year. I can't believe people is missing out that much to this group because all of the people now who likes kpop focuses on the visuals and if the whole group's visual fits in the beauty standards of korea which is disturbing, theses idols are trained for years and imagine calling their group as "flopped" or "has the worst debut in the kpop industry" is something that could these idols can take it seriously since they are humans also, not a robotic girlies who is just to serve "bad" music for everyone's judgment. People nowadays should appreciate genuine talents than visuals.
@Moonlight ESPT didn't ask for your opinion tho.. and I made it "easy to read" and "easy to understand" for people who don't know how to read especially without common sense nowadays...
They mask the hate with them pitying the girls. They can't just drop them off at their "to stan list" without hating them, and its always the fans who stan a bunch of dozens, they're threatened with skilled groups.
I just see comments that they make shit music and lyrics are cringey. Some part of that I do agree, but I would not go as far on hating them becuz lily is prob the 4th gen best vocalist and every member is rlly talented. It’s JYP fault for creating an unfulfilled image and poor music for Them. It’s like JYP only gives proper concepts and good songs to stray kids and twice but completely dropped the ball on nmixx and Itzy
