I think the problem was not using the right brush!! 🖤🖤 Some people have also mentioned that this video was potentially insensitive towards people with depression or similar mental health illnesses. As someone who as suffered from depression myself, this was not at all my intention. This video was simply an experiment investigating sebum regulation - it was made for the purpose of science and myth busting. Just so you know, but if you brush your hair from the bottom going up you get the best results, brushing your hair while its wet is bad for the hair cause it's when it's most brittle which is why so much hair came out.
How exactly is this insensitive to people with depression? I have anxiety, depression, etc... I'm not feeling any emotions except excitement and joy because I love your content.
I have had severe depression my entire life. Luckily I am doing well now (on a ton of meds) but being forced to stay home and ruining my schedule is not helping. I am technically bipolar but my manic episodes only last a day or so. I don’t think this is insensitive at all. Just because a symptom of depression can be ignoring body care does not make a completely unrelated experiment insensitive.
I did this for about 2 weeks when quarantine started and it was about the same stage as your day 20...It got the point where I washed because i just couldn't take the itching anymore. I personally have lots of thick, quite curly hair and washing my hair every 2 days would be considered a daily workout for me; especially considering I'm trying to grow it out. My friends think i am seriously mad when i say that i wash around every 3-5 days depending on my grime factor... Then i remember that its healthier for my hair and I'm saving time, water, energy and most importantly money!!! love you Ellbat
Wait, I have depression but I'm struggling to find and spider web of a connection between this and that. And insensitive? Rest assured Elbat it had nothing to with any of that, but those who think it does you should check your calendars cause I think you are PMSing. (hey happens to me too it's alright 😂)
Try to not wash it every other day to get back on a healthy washing cycle. When it’s washed too often the natural oils are removed and the result is oily hair within 1-2 days. Hang in there, and just help your scalp get back to normal and don’t wash it that often. 💛
If you ever decide to try this again, keep these two things in mind. When rinsing your hair, make sure you scrub your scalp like if you were using shampoo. And also if you will use a boar bristle brush it helps distribute your natural oils so your hair doesn't get so oily looking and it shouldn't get matted. FYI You were getting there!
Not to mention nobody said not to use anything other than shampoo if she had just use soap every 3 days recommended for person who was using shampoo regularly in the past to clean she wouldn't be in this mess
@@rapiddu6482 Soap makes your hair filmy and leaves a buildup of waxy residue. It doesn't matter so much for people with short hair, because it doesn't have a chance to build up. Most shampoos leave waxy buildup too, probably to mitigate the damage caused by daily use of surfactants (that strip natural oils). There are kinder, gentler ways to have clean hair.
Dries I once tried a caffeinated shampoo witch apparently helps dandruff it made it 10X worse and I acc felt like crying.just use a moisturising shampoo! It helped mine so much.
This has been very educational for me. I have suffered severe depression for decades, and had no idea that my lack of caring for myself was a result of that depression. I lost my mother when I was a child, and my husband when he was 48. I cannot change my past, but am saving this video. You teach me the importance of caring for myself. Thank you.
If you ever really struggle with washing your hair again, you can actually wrap it in cotton or linen scarves to somewhat manually degrease it without as much effort. It will not look clean, but it just helps a bit and keeps dirt and excess grease from building up. You can alwo do bird baths with baby wipes just cleaning the smelly parts. You don't even have to remove all of your clothes which can help.
as someone who suffers from SEVERE depression, the most i would do was rinse my hair with water in a school restroom sink. this went on for a year and i still struggle to wash my hair, but can conclude that my hair is noticeably more healthy. im glad im starting to be able to take showers and do my makeup every now and then.
@@sorenkair you are confused because you have never been in our shoes. A person will only meet us up to the point they've discovered themselves. I'm glad you enjoy showering but for some it becomes a big task because depression hinders the feeling of joy and takes us to some depths of sadness where one does not bother taking care of oneself.
@@uwubelle817 when i used to be depressed, it was because of something that i had very little control over. like social anxiety, family problems, physical appearance, spiraling grades. discomfort due to being dirty is a relatively easy problem to solve. and during that time, i obsessively sought out and practically addicted myself to things that brought me any escape from my problems.
As someone who suffers from depression and used to have really bad episodes in middle school and high school where I would go weeks without showering and would just keep my hair up in a bun, I completely understand the struggle of brushing the mats out, the itchy scalp, the sensitive scalp, the oily hair, and the dandruff. I remember using so much conditioner each time I would shower to reduce the pain when removing matting in my hair.
I think it's the best time for you to start washing your hair less cuz we are all in quarantine. Just sart washing it once every 5 days or so and your hair will eventually get used to that and your scalp will produce less sebum.
I don't get why people are thinking this is insensitive to those with depression.. I have severe depression and I see this as an experiment you did. People need to stop.
@@dontreadmyprofilepicture6533 but she didn't say she was depressed. Also, she was experimenting with her hair. How is that insensitive to those with depression? She never once said "depression" in the whole video. It was an experiment, how is it linked to depression when there was no mention of it?
as someone with depression i can say its hard to find the motivation to even shower often, but i dont find this video offensive? its just an experiment it has nothing to do with depression
Hi. I watched this as research for the book I've written, in which one of my main characters hasn't washed her hair for a long time. I've got to thank you for your informative and detailed account of what happens if you don't wash it. It's helped me out loads. Incidentally, my hair's now quite long and is greasy as hell by the third day if I don't wash it - now I know precisely way. Thanks :)
TheRhonda77 usually those people have much coarser or drier hair, people of Northern European decent can’t normally get by that long. It’s because the oil travels down the hair shaft much faster in fine-medium thick straight or wavy hair
I kinda did this in my teens (I'm 24 now) and usually only need to wash my hair once a week since. This is so great not only for time managing reasons but also for the health of my hair. Some people might find it gross hearing that but my hair doesn't look or feel gross at all
I haven't washed my hair with shampoo or conditioner in 8 days now.. luckily, nothing about my hair has changed. I think it's because I only shampoo once every 4-5 days usually.. but my hair looks and feels good. I also have started taking super cold showers. It isn't easy to deal with the cold, but I think it made my hair and skin healthier. Life is wild
Same. I only need to wash mine every week. I think everyone’s body is different and produces the oil and sebum differently. I just don’t have oily hair at all. So that makes it much easier for me.
Agus Corradini well kinda... but not really. Some people really do have a dry scalp. I don’t personally have a dry scalp, but my friend does, and she showers often. And she had dandruff. She hates it but she always tells me about it! Plus a lot of my friends are going through puberty. No, I am not going through puberty. I finished already.
GachaMøønx But it is tho, dandruff and dry scalp have the same main symptoms but are two different things. The skin gets irritated and flakes off with dry scalps and with oily scalps it’s just skin cells building up and shedding due to excess oil
ive had on and off depressive episodes on the last 4 months, and the rug-worth of hair after showering is spot on for me. im currently better, washing my hair every 2-3 days (i'm a little self concious, and washing it helps me with feeling more confident)
As a black girl with natural hair I found this interesting. We can go up to 2 months without washing our hair (with protective styling). My typical wash day is 2 weeks. But I now understand why others with other textures have to wash their hair so frequently. This was really entertaining and informative lol And your humor is dope haha
tip for anyone who wants to make their hair used to a longer period of not washing: wear it up a lot!! like super slick back then the grease isnt as noticable. thats how i unintentionally got used to washing my hair every sunday only !!⭐️
I have stopped washing my hair for 2 months now (man with shoulder length hair). It's still a fine tuning experiment. What I have found out what works for me (everyone's hair and scalp is different): -Brush every day with dry hair to get the loose hair out and spread the natural oils. -Rinse once a week, and rub your fingers over your scalp as if you were washing your hair. We shed a lot of skin cells every day and your head is no exception to this. - If you get dandruff, mix a tablespoon of Bicarbonate Sodium (baking soda) with a few tablespoons of water to make a paste. Then wet your hair in the shower and push out most of the water out of your hair with your hands. Then, take a bit from the baking soda paste and start washing your scalp. Apply the pressure that feels good for you. Only wash the scalp, not the hair strands. -Don't rub the devil out of your hair with that towel. Just pat it until damp. -Dry that hair. Either air dry (not in a knot) or dry with a blow drier on the lowest heat setting. Also, too much heat is the enemy of hair. Make sure that that shower is not too hot. I am also still fine tuning, so any tips are welcome.
Staer ‘ my hair gets greasy in a half a day .. I put my pride in my hair too 😔 sadly I normally have to wash it 1-2 times a day and it’s not a ok amount of greasy it looked like my hair is wet
@@adriann7586 mine is wavy kinda. i am also a swimmer and so my hair is used to being washed a lot and so I literally cannot go like 2 days without washing it ahhahah
As someone who has a naturally oily scalp, I really appreciate how you've done this. I had to not wash my hair for two weeks, cause I got chickenpox, ngl, it was NOT fun.
Usually, when I take out my hair tie it just stays there, looking like a ponytail without a hair tie. that's only after like 2 weeks though cause I've trained my hair to not get so oily, even after a week.
like others have said - this is a reality for those with severe depression - myself included. I used to wash my hair every other day and it was immediately greasy on the second day. I went for an absurdly long time not washing my hair and now i can go a good week before it looks distinctly "dirty" i wouldnt wear it down but its about what most would consider 2nd or 3rd day hair. I currently wash once, maybe twice a month tops and honestly when my hair is JUST washed, its frustratingly soft. Its like trying to deal with synthetic doll hair in that it knots so easily but also just wont stay up and slips out of any style i put it in. I dont think theres any benefit to NEVER shampooing your hair, but you can deffinately do this for a good reset. letting your hair get good and greasy once in a while is good for your hair as the grease is essentially conditioner and protectant for your hair. Before washing i will brush out the dead hair, then work in sections with a fine toothed comb to lift up any dead skin on my scalp and move it down the hair. this alone removes a good chunk of the dandruff. this i do once or twice a week. then when i wash my hair i will wash 3 times. Once to lift dirt, second to remove the dirt and then to actually impart the shampoo and make it nice and shiny. I will put conditioner from my shoulders to tips after the second wash and then rinse that out with the third wash. I currently have nearly knee length thick hair, and it was ankle length till i cut it back to hip length right at the beginning of the year.
wow i’ve never seen someone mention the doll hair feeling! i have wavy/curly hair and i wash my hair once a week or every other week. not because of my hair type, but because of my depression. i try to brush through it as much as i can or have it up in a bun or in braids. when i eventually wash it, i shampoo it dry and then shampoo it wet to really get the build up off. i really was shocked to see how much my hair grows! it’s at belly button length right now but im constantly trimming and cutting. thank you for your comment :)
me: washes hair every other day and still sometimes doesn’t like how oily it is on day 2 my 9 year old sister: goes 2 weeks without showering and still complains when we force her to shower
you’re actually supposed to brush your hair several times a day while doing this challenge in order to get rid ofthe dust and the dead hair and also to distribute the oils evenly across you hair so that it actually benefits from it!
(Sorry I rambled a bit) (Note: I have normal, black/very dark brown, asian hair) I'm not doing the challenge, I'm just doing it because I no longer have much to do and I don't want to??? (~ 2 weeks now (I usually wash once or twice a week - or whenever it felt too disgusting**) but I'll probably wash it tomorrow) **For some reason, aside from a little bit of itch (idk if it's because I'm annoyed or it's actually itchy - probably both) - it's become less disgusting (it's also dry rn...grease might come when I start doing stuff tho - idk how but it does?)......I'm just hoping I no longer have dandruff (idk if it's like a medical condition 'cause I never checked) but I always feel like I have dandruff (my mom says it's fine so maybe I'm just too self conscious...) [Like I think it's more head skin than dandruff because I realised I accidentally pick scabs.. - now I don't scratch much so it doesn't sting when I wash my hair - yay? Maybe I just need to brush my hair a lot more...]
ai chan The dandruff thing actually is a medical condition called sebarocdermititus (I didn’t spell it right sorry) I actually have the condition myself and it is were you scalp produces much more dandruff and can cause large patches of skin on the scalp to flake off making the scalp very tinder and causes it to become very painful is touched or scratched. It is treatable but I believe that it is a permanent condition. Some treatments (that I know of and use) are a shampoo that you leave in the scalp for up to 5 minutes and a liquid/serum that you put on the scalp and leave it their overnight. The liquid/serum makes your hair feel and look a bit greasy and I find it helps to put it up in a ponytail. Both of these treatments are prescription and can be prescribed by your dermatologist. I hope this helped you out!
Yeah but the thing is, with the no-poo challenge, you're not supposed to just rinse it with water and call it a day. You're supposed to use vinegar and baking soda and it does actually clean your hair.
No it's not. Consult a dermatologist or dermatological reviews. What you do at the surface of your skin has no effect on the sebaceous gland activity. It's a pseudoscience myth...
Hey Ell... how did your hair feel after the first wash after the 30 days?? When I was in college 30 years ago (and actually had hair), my two roommates and I decided to see who could go the longest with out washing our hair, we all had 80's metal hair (mine was more like Axel Roses). My roommates lasted a week, I lasted 1 1/2 weeks. I'll tell you what, my hair (and my roommates agreed about there's) felt really soft and healthy. What you should try, like what we did, is that we never got our hair wet when we took our showers.
@@romyvanderwindt37 You're actually not supposed to shower every day. Just like you're not supposed to wash your hair every day, you're not supposed to wash your skin every day. Of course, for sanitary reasons, it's ideal to wash the "essential" places. But if you shower every other day, there's nothing wrong with that.
Not using soap is one thing, but not taking care of it is another, you still have to brush it preferably twice a day, in the evening 100 strokes and in the morning 100 strokes with a boar bristle brush, this will remove the dust and help distribute the sebum evenly
I can't sleep when my hair is dirty. That might sound weird, but I'm so aware of it and oddly enough, my head actually feels hot if my hair is dirty against my pillow.
That is a big win, less washes definitely help as you said at the beginning, but I don't think it's worth fully giving up shampoo, maybe just find some gentler shampoos? (Aimed more at the movement than at you individually) :D I'm glad you gave this a go tho and it worked enough to help you reduce your wash routine :)
This is actually where the whole "hundred brushstrokes a day" came from, because Back Then, the soaps would actually make hair brittle and breakable, so you couldn't use soap in your hair. Hence, the hundred brushstrokes. Using a pig-bristle brush, you'd brush the oils from your scalp to the end of your hair, and while doing so would brush out dirt and dead skin. Women's hair would be long and clean due to this. In short, it might have gone better with the addition of a pig-bristle brush used each day.
I should try this! Cause my mum always said that my grandma said that she'd do it to her own hair and my mum's and it was really smooth and soft....and like Ellbat explained in this video it can't change a pattern from washing it every other day or whatever so I'll see if it works :)
Yep, I have long (I mean thigh long) thick wavy hair that I don't wash more than once a month or two (when I dye the roots, basically) and only use conditioner and coconut oil. Leaving it out would be pretty impractical (for several reasons) but by taking the ties out of my braid/tail (think Kahl Drogo's ponytail) and combing it with a fine tooth comb starting at the bottom and working up, then taking out of a ponytail and combing from top of the scalp, it removes most of the dust and skin that might accumulate, along with any hair fall. The coconut oil, which I have to apply after washing and a couple of times per week to prevent mad frizz and make combing/brushing possible anyway, has enough anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties that it smells quite clean and I don't get the dandruff I always had as a kid. You definitely shouldn't shower with long hair without brushing out the knots and hair fall thoroughly first, let alone if not using conditioner, because it weakens in water and you will just pull out clumps of snapped hairs along with the hair fall
@@carolinemercer9779 Idont know if it works for you because there are two sorts of dandruff the oily one and the dry dandruff. I have a condition where my scalp gets reallly dry and before I take a shower I always brush my scalp in circular motion on the specific spots where its dry and the drandruff kinda comes off and after that I have 2 days without any problems. But you will need a brush that is like massaging your head. You know what I mean? Like a hard one. With these plastic things poking out. I don't know how to describe 😂. Maybe you can try this :) and I also use a moisturising conditioner and massage it onto my head and leave it for 2 minutes. And after I learned that literally every second person has to deal with dandruff I don't even care that much anymore. You got this sis!
Whooaaa idk if it was intentional but at 0:51 you sound like a professional on the news, "when we were all able to still go outside" its the way you said go outside. Shook 😂
haha same here. Looks like me not using shampoo and conditioner for weeks and simply wetting/rinsing my hair is now revealed to be for "health" reasons instead of pure and utter laziness because I have long hair. That's my excuse now and I'm rolling with it.
Speaking from the perspective of somebody studying historical fashion, what you should have done was get a natural bristle brush, as in made with boar bristles, and from day one on, brushed you hair thoroughly with it and then washed the brush thoroughly with soap daily. This removes dirt and excess sebum from your hair along with spreading the required sebum evenly throughout your hair.
Alex.....you are correct (boar bristle brush when you start out for sure)!!! I wash my hair once a week.....have no problems with greasy hair anymore! And now I use a regular brush (long hair)! Much much healthier hair now...❤️
I tried a boar bristled brush and found it did nothing for me. I did it everyday for a week or so. I found it more effective to slowly add days between washing my hair. I've pushed it from 2-3 days to about a week and hope to take it further so my hair is less oily all the time.
@@emilycorby8997 i have found that washing the brush with soap or shampoo daily is what does the trick. I sometimes even leave hot water on the brush before brushing to dampen my hair to reduce frizz and warm the sebum making it easier to spread/remove. Even going so far as to add a hairdryer for drying/heat while brushing. This may seem like a lot of work, which is because it is. Cleaning hair by brush takes time. But I believe its worth it.
Same, but Vichy have helped and it’s a white and green package around it. It’s good! Helped me I almost doesn’t have more white things idk what the name is in English
Try washing one of 2 shampoo days with just water. It'll help a lot. Also try putting it up/french/dutch braided, tightly, when your hair gets oily. If I want I can now go a week without washing my hair (without shampoo, just water)
I did this once for three months when I was in the hospital. Yeah, bad idea. After that period of time, I almost had to cut off some hair because I just wasn't able to brush it anymore (I had long hair). That's when I knew it was time to stop and that it didn't work for me. And that moment when you finally wash it. And that it's dry directly after. It was the best feeling ever.
emmy_bemmy09 she’s not exaggerating. I have very long hair as well and in 5 days staying in a bed my hair is fully tangled, that means the whole left part of the head tangled together, and the whole right side together. Takes 2 hours to remove it. 3 months in a bed (since she was in a hospital) with long hair; the only thing to do is to cut it, it must be an amount of tangled that you can’t even imagine, the whole head (not just a side and another side) must be making one tangle together mixing all small tangles.
As someone whos been depressed and didn't wash their hair for a month and didn't realize (I took showers but my hair stayed in a bun and I wouldn't take it off), this doesn't bother me but it actually makes me feel like I wasn't crazy about my hair becoming healthier during my depression session (at least something is growing happy), it grew (from chin length to off shoulder length), it started growing back (I was somewhat balding from the stress and depression), it was stronger (before it literally snapped if I used a brush and I haven't dye it in years) and my curls came back (before it just looked like a mop) overall my depression made my hair healthier and beautiful and in turn made me a bit happier and made more of an effort in trying not to let my bad thought dim the shine my hair gave me again.
Decades ago, when folks didn't wash their hair so often, the bristle brush was the ultimate tool in spreading the natural oils to encourage natural curls, help shift build up and protective styling; up dos.
Yes the oils must be brushed down to the ends with a natural boar bristled brush. And after sebum hits it’s peak you do a one time baking soda rinse. You only ever have to do the baking soda when you notice a build up starting. Roughly every 3 or 4 months. Depending on each individual.
@@dneilcrowell8059 I have used baby powder brushed into my hair and it works good for a couple of days only. I wear my hair up all the time now. I have for years. I used to have it loose and flowing long hair. Now it's still long but easy up.
I must say that my hair felt better when I used such a brush, but it was also too short to get tangled up. Greasy hair is so STICKY it gets matted in no time but takes endless patience to untangle.
Oh, so that’s the reason in all those old novels women are always talking about how they brush their hair 100 times before bed each night or whatever, I could not understand how that was meant to be beneficial but it must be for this reason...
Useing a boar bristle brush is essential to clean the scalp and pull the oil to the ends to condition the hair naturally. THEN right after wash your hair with warm or lukewarm water right afterwards massaging with fingertips. I have found I have to do this for longer than I would for shampooing. It helps to have a strong flow of water and to massage and rinse from several directions including hanging your head down. In addition I've been no poo for about 10 years now and have always washed at least once a week with something weather it be a cowash, baking soda, rice water, shakaki, or some lather of bar soap (which bar soap is my least favorite). Never have I heard of no poo people just not cleaning their scalp or hair at all. Going no poo is actually a bit higher maintenance in my experience but worth it. My hair is so oily I used to look like your one month hair or worse after not washing for only three days. Learning How and WHEN to use a boar bristle brush was for me The key to keeping my hair clean with just water for longer. I pretty much only brush right before I wash. If my ends are frizy or poofy then I have not brushed enough to get the oil to the ends. (I have 2a fine thin oily hair)
unrelated but omg when i was in 3rd grade, i was getting ready for school and I couldn't find a normal hairbrush All that i could find was a circular boar bristle brush and it got stuck in my hair I couldnt take it out and my mum used loads of conditioner and oil and it still was stuck (Luckily?) there was a typhoon and school was canceled And in the end i had bangs 😭

Old lady here. When I was growing up we all had long hair. We only washed our hair once a week but we brushed it every morning and night. Some women brushed it 100 times before bed. We also wore our hair in protective styles during the day, braids, pony tails wrapped into buns on top of our heads. We also washed our brushes daily and kept them hair free and clean after using them. My head never itched as long as I brushed my hair and scalp morning and night. When we did wash it we let it down to dry naturally. I'm 63 yes old and still have my natural hair color. I'm seeing some silver here and there but slowly.
It is SO important to brush one’s hair adequately, especially when hair is long. Brushing distributes the oils down the entire hair length. The best brush to use is one with natural bristles, as then some of the sebum is absorbed by the bristle. That is also why it is important to wash the brush(s) daily. We have been sold a bill of goods by the hair products companies. Of course they want us to wash every day - they sell more product that way! But even hairdressers advise nowadays that washing daily is not good for one’s hair. When I was younger in my teens and twenties, I did have to wash my hair at least every other day. I used to joke with my friends that the oil companies could erect a Derrick on my head and I’d be rich. Now at 66, I can easily get away with 1-2 washes a week. I might add my hair is short. Yup, you gotta brush it more often the longer you go without washing. A Lotta people only wash once a week and it's just a little more work when you go that way
to everyone watching: PLEASE don’t brush your hair aggressively like she did while you’re in the shower. when your hair is wet, it’s the most prone to breakage. You’re welcome
Chloe that is not true at all. My hair is 2c-3b and I can unagressively detangle my hair. Maybe for people with other hair types but my hair gets very dry sometimes. As long as you keep it moisturized you should be able to detangle it pretty easily in the shower

This experiment is only for my hair type and is not reflective of the hair care of other types n styles !!! I massaged my hair in the shower, as well as brushing my hair nearly every day. I think the problem was not using the right brush!! 🖤🖤
Some people have also mentioned that this video was potentially insensitive towards people with depression or similar mental health illnesses. This video was simply an experiment investigating sebum regulation - it was made for the purpose of science and myth busting. It is not at all intended as a commentary on depression, or a mockery of that experience. Thank you for understanding !!!

You can also use a wood comb
@@rapiddu6482 Soap makes your hair filmy and leaves a buildup of waxy residue. It doesn't matter so much for people with short hair, because it doesn't have a chance to build up. Most shampoos leave waxy buildup too, probably to mitigate the damage caused by daily use of surfactants (that strip natural oils). There are kinder, gentler ways to have clean hair.

I have stopped washing my hair for 2 months now (man with shoulder length hair). It's still a fine tuning experiment. What I have found out what works for me (everyone's hair and scalp is different):
-Brush every day with dry hair to get the loose hair out and spread the natural oils.
I am also still fine tuning, so any tips are welcome.
thks, that is some good advice, for someone struggle with their hair care (also a man with shoulder length hair :P)

like others have said - this is a reality for those with severe depression - myself included.
I currently have nearly knee length thick hair, and it was ankle length till i cut it back to hip length right at the beginning of the year.
wow i’ve never seen someone mention the doll hair feeling! i have wavy/curly hair and i wash my hair once a week or every other week. not because of my hair type, but because of my depression. i try to brush through it as much as i can or have it up in a bun or in braids. when i eventually wash it, i shampoo it dry and then shampoo it wet to really get the build up off. i really was shocked to see how much my hair grows! it’s at belly button length right now but im constantly trimming and cutting. thank you for your comment :)

ai chan The dandruff thing actually is a medical condition called sebarocdermititus (I didn’t spell it right sorry) I actually have the condition myself and it is were you scalp produces much more dandruff and can cause large patches of skin on the scalp to flake off making the scalp very tinder and causes it to become very painful is touched or scratched.

Hey Ell... how did your hair feel after the first wash after the 30 days??
When I was in college 30 years ago (and actually had hair), my two roommates and I decided to see who could go the longest with out washing our hair, we all had 80's metal hair (mine was more like Axel Roses). My roommates lasted a week, I lasted 1 1/2 weeks. I'll tell you what, my hair (and my roommates agreed about there's) felt really soft and healthy.
What you should try, like what we did, is that we never got our hair wet when we took our showers.
Wait, you literally didnt WASH your hair at all? Not even water? That must have been very stinky 😂 Who smelled worse? You or your roomate? 😂

That is a big win, less washes definitely help as you said at the beginning, but I don't think it's worth fully giving up shampoo, maybe just find some gentler shampoos? (Aimed more at the movement than at you individually) :D
I'm glad you gave this a go tho and it worked enough to help you reduce your wash routine :)
@Jack K one hundred strokes a day
IDK why, but "boar bristle" just sounds way less nasty than "pig bristle" XD
@Jack K daily. I was taught to brush 100 strokes per day. Soft boar bristle brush, brush from scalp all the way down the length.

haha same here.
Much much healthier hair now...❤️
@@lg8365 I fully agree. I use the same for my hair, only washing it when I didn't have time to brush it clean every day.
But using a boar bristle would make her lose her curls

Rick I feel like you’re exaggerating
emmy_bemmy09 no it’s not if u have a tube or picc, you not allowed to shower.
Rick ^am I right?
emmy_bemmy09 she’s not exaggerating.
💀This is big cap
It is worth the hassle then?
Decades ago, when folks didn't wash their hair so often, the bristle brush was the ultimate tool in spreading the natural oils to encourage natural curls, help shift build up and protective styling; up dos.
Yes the oils must be brushed down to the ends with a natural boar bristled brush. And after sebum hits it’s peak you do a one time baking soda rinse. You only ever have to do the baking soda when you notice a build up starting. Roughly every 3 or 4 months. Depending on each individual.
@@dneilcrowell8059 who the fuck only cleans their hair 4-3 times per year?
(I have 2a fine thin oily hair)
unrelated but omg when i was in 3rd grade, i was getting ready for school and I couldn't find a normal hairbrush

Assuming you are Caucasian, right? Curly hair people can't do that. But yeah. I struggled to NOT wash my hair. Trying to get better.
In the end, 1. It depends upon one’s age and oil production. 2. One’s personal tolerance. 3. Good daily brushing and 4. Use of Non-sulfate hair products.
