Hey John I’m a recent subscriber from New Zealand and I love your channel. I just got back into CB after 30 years. I think the Antenna that you built is great. I think I’m gonna build me one now and do the same thing as you leave the vertical on the house and put a horizontal on the shed. you Sold me on it. 462 DX Kiwi New Zealand.👍🇳🇿
I remember being told about the delta lop awhile back. Once you go delta loop you won't want to go back. After I made my wire delta loop it was fantastic!
Hey john. You have an awesome set up. Always a good signal here . Hope to speak to you again. Best 73s. And happy Christmas to you and Barbara. WR456🇬🇧 Richy.
Hi John and an early Merry Christmas to you and Mrs. Barbara. I’m almost bowled over to hear that you like this radio better than any you’ve had! You were the President Washington man. I ended up selling mine a short time ago as I have a few others that I like more and now use. I’m going to consider trying a QT60 after hearing your recommendation. My boys are just 6 and 7 years away from driving and they already want radios in whatever vehicles they get. 😊 I like the V quad too! Very cool and I hope to catch you again whenever the short skip comes back to my QTH.
I have been running the quad 5 NII here for the last several months which of course is the Anytone version. I love it. I have a question though about what you were saying about trying different mics, did you go into the menu and select dynamic mic with all those other mics? If you didn't that could be why you did not see a good result. There is another local here in Vegas that runs a turner plus 3 on his and it sounds awesome. You might want to re-try those mics if you didn't select dynamic in the menu. As for me, in that service menu (some call it the secret menu) i did make a few changes, AM modulation 100%, and i also set the AM and FM power levels in there with low at 2 watts and high at 5 watts just so i don't have an accident and forget to turn that power level down on the front panel and pop my amp when i am switching modes. I am just running an RM Italy 503 HD here, they don't like more than a 5 watt dead key into them. For SSB i have the max high power set to 10 watts, that seems to be what the amp likes. After setting all of those i don't have to do anything when i switch modes, and the amp is always happy. I always keep the noise reduction for RX on 2, seems to be the best setting for everything on that. This radio is very menu heavy, but once you set it up how you want it to run, you never have to touch anything ever. Same thing as you here, if i can hear them, i can talk to them, that's providing there isn't a pile up. I run a Sirio 827 5/8ths wave vertical here, not really able to run a beam here and i have talked everywhere and even into the western half of Europe with no problems when conditions are good that way. South pacific twice a day, early morning and at grey line at my QTH, no worry's pretty much daily except when the sun gets silly and pops off the solar flares as it sometimes does, we all experience that one sometimes. Interesting little story: The day Amazon dropped it at my door, even before i converted it, i fired it up and found a ham buddy of mine up on a DX net on 28.425 here locally. They were all working a station in Malaysia which is about 9000 miles away from us here. He runs a Maco v58 for 10 and 11 meters, and his antenna is only at 25 feet to the base of it, the same as me here. He had the same copy on that guy that i did which was light copy, some QSB to where the both of us were really only getting about every other word or so. The difference was he was on an Icom 7610. I have heard people call the quad 5 NII's the poor mans Icom out there, and i can verify that is pretty much true. HRO currently prices a 7610 at $3,499.95. My Anytone cost me $277.45 to my door at the time. A lot of people in ham circles as well as all the 11 meter guys that are all running the Yeasu's and Icoms and such ( you know, those poshy posh high dollar and high ego guys) tend to knock chip radios like the quad 5's/QT 60's and the CRT 9900 ( all the same radios essentially)but for the money, the RX is great and on par with those high end radios, and the TX is good even with a stock mic, i have always gotten good reports and i even had one guy in the Midwest asking me if i was running a Flex radio. A Flex radio can run to almost 10k on the top end. Nope, no Flex radio here, just my little old under $300 dollar cheap ass chinesium " Piece of junk" radio. And i just got down, and all you posh guys out there are back out with your crack's out and i am gone. See yahz!! 😃 910 Las Vegas, NV USA
Hey John, I like that 3 EL. V-Quad. That Thing makes you a Power Station. Merry Christmas & a happy New Year to you and the Wife. 73 de your wrinkly Friend from across Pond. 💯👍🙋♂
I watched the build video of the antenna and what’s scary is how quick a year has passed John 😬 wish you an Barbra a merry Xmas and fab new year!! 73s Chris 108at176
You seem to be happy, that is the important thing. I'm a HAM and a CB'er, I talk every night with my local buds on 23, on my Stryker 955. It's all radio brother.
I have the same antenna. I put up this fall on a 50 foot tower, I cant wait to try it out this winter. waiting on my finals for my Galaxy Saturn.. Thanks for video..
I been running the Anytone version in my pickup for almost 5 years now with an RM-Italy KL203 and a 102" whip ..best mobile setup I've had..73' ..WR-115 , Yellowknife.
Take some non conductive nylon and run it tight across the element tips from front to back. that way the antenna will be like a cage and there will be almost no movement at all when the high winds come.... not to mention much less stress where the elements connect to the boom..... think about how the really big 36 foot Yagi's have internal guy wires to keep the boom straight
I bought the Q5Nii a while back, Its in the semi truck, a few months ago, I picked up the QT 60. Dare I say we may have found the "cobra 148gtl/Uniden grant XL" of today. Love them both. AS for mic's ? I went out on a whim, Heil HMM standard (not the one for Icom) , the RJ45 to Cobra 4 pin addaptor. That is the only mic I found that might be slightly better than the stock mic. I did a trial with a SRA 198 ranger mic, with the cap removed from the element it sounds as good as the Heil mic. It IS more Noise canceling than the Heil or stock mic could be. The SRA mic is, thats what I run in the semi truck with the Q5Nii. In my little personal mobile , QT 60 has the stock mic on it. Anyways John, Ya'll have a Merry Christmas and a great new year. I had a sneaking suspition You like the delta loop. there are to operators in Irleand , they both run Delta loops of sorts, They seem to make the trip every time with ease when conditions are in. Must be something to those Delta loops? lol 351 Northern Colorado wavin' cheers and 73
I was going to get this antenna but a good friend gave me a moonraker 4 so im going to try that for a while, Although I've been enjoying the Jogunn hillbilly! 295 coast of Maine✌73
Im going to be ordering a qt-80 right after Christmas and then a qt-60. I have a qt-40 I modified doing 55watt AM and around 100watt sideband stable it will get warm faster but I don't ragjaw for very long and it drives my highdrive amp perfectly but thats why im getting the qt-80 to replace it as my base radio. Plus Radioddity has the best customer service. Plus you cannot find another radio with all of the features of these radios for the same price.
You could shoot some drones out of the sky with that antenna you're shack is looking good you and the mrs have a great Christmas hillbilly in the bam waving
John the 3 and radiotty 60 ,match up nicely good DX and contacts all day to you If you get too busy wishing you and the XYL a merry CHRISTMAS And happy new year Yes I did it politically incorrect these days ( always been...>.always will be.....MERRY CHRISTMAS )
@MowerJunkie forgot to tell ya...... My 30$ d104 went on to my tech found main issue was the foil on cartridge dented in had Astatic mic crystal cartridge from 1980s NOS sitting on shelf still bagged so replaced then re solder and clean all joints choked and RF blocked audio line put on oscilloscope mic test and say really sweet now!!!! Now I should have no excuse you can't hear me!!!!
I just have one question which part of that antenna do you aim in the direction you want? I live in Michigan. My call sign is 217 Ramblin man been trying to catch contact you for a long time I hang on channel 37 lower side band.
