- The Philippines has been our FAVOURITE country for FOOD in South East Asia so far! We have truly eaten our way round the islands, trying everything we fancy. Filipino food is known for its unique flavours, different textures and lots of meat.
In this video, we tried a mixture of savoury and sweet to give our taste buds a treat! Savoury foods were our staple favourite Pork Sisig and a traditional Filipino breakfast Corned Beef Silog. Then for dessert we tried a Choco Mucho chocolate bar, Creamline ice cream and the traditional Filipino dessert Halo Halo. Of course we also had to try the Philippines strongest beer Red Horse at 6.9%!
We absolutely love the food here in the Philippines and are always wanting to try different things so let us know in the comments if there is anything you would like to see us try.

The proper way to eat Halo-halo is: when served, you need to totally mix all the ingredients using the spoon provided. From the bottom up. You will see a big difference in taste when it’s fully mixed than eating it without mixing. Hence the word halo halo which literally means mix mix.

@@TheBlagPackers always ask how to eat filipinos food to avoid dssapointment.. if its needed a dipping sauce or on how to make a dipping sauce.. if its grilled always ask a calamansi ,soy sauce and red chili combine them all and crack the red chili then you have a dipping sauce for any barbecue grilled.

Sisig, originally is made from pig “scraps” (innards, face skin and some pork fried together with vegies and spices).
We love that they use so much of the animal to make such a great tasting dish 😋 🇵🇭❤️
I think Filipino restaurants should start informing first timers on how to eat certain food choices like Halo-halo.

@@TheBlagPackers I’ll give tips anyway:
1) the sauce. The holy trinity would be soy sauce (or any salty sauce), calamansi (don’t eat the seeds as they are bitter), and chilis. They go with almost anything dry like fried or grilled.
2) if they give you the shrimp paste, it is very fishy. So only a dab would suffice but enhances the flavor of certain dished like kare-kare.
3) vinegar is also a common ingredient and dipping sauce. Filipinos will not take it negatively if you put in some condiments.
4) try fried bananas in the form of turon or banana Q. They are either snacks or desserts.
5) try tropical fruits especially the ripe mangoes (almost the end of season now). Mangoes are best when chilled.

Log = Itlog (Egg)
(Protien) + Silog
ie:
Tapsilog (beef strip rice and egg)
Hotsilog (Hotdog rice and egg)

If you're going to order or eat in a local eatery, if you want fried rice always mention you want fried rice instead of plain rice. Always request fried rice if you want to eat fried rice. Because sometimes if you order silog they can just give "sinaing itlog" (sinaing is a cooked rice plain rice) instead of "sinangag itlog" (fried rice).

You got it, I didn't think of that, Sinaing instead of Sinangag is also possible, so clarifications are really needed.
"Silog" is a portmanteau for "sinangag" which is fried rice, and "itlog" which is the egg. It is usually prepended with another syllable for the protein, e.g., Tap (for "tapa" which is stir fried, marinated beef), Long (for "longanisa" which is a Filipino chiritzo sausage).
And this is why the Philippines is such a great country for food! 🇵🇭❤️

Halo-halo - means Mix-mix… initially you may taste the toppings but generally you have to mix and stir before eating them so the sugar will mix/melt with-it.

The reason its mix- mix is because you got to mix all ingredients together then scoop from the bottom up then you get a mixture of taste it also dissolves the sugar, but they should have use condensed milk witch eliminate the use of sugar.

Why do Filipinos love to fabricate trivia with the hopes of impressing foreigners or what is called in slang terms, Afham? Halo Halo is not necessarily a verb. It is a noun which means a Mixture Of or Combination of stuff. Commercial Halo Halo in fast food dont put the ingridients at the bottom, so people who actually eat halo halo dont feel the need to mix things up.
Red horse can taste amazing when nearly frozen and drinking it in the summer breeze 👌🏼

Traditional halo-halo is served on a glass or a tall glass with the sweet ingredients are in the bottom part underthe shaved ice, that you will need to mix before you eat.

most silog meals from small restaurants here are basically reheated canned goods served with an egg on the side. before ordering silog meals, i do recommend you check if they are freshly cooked. the really best one's are those that are cooked fresh same day :D

Another dish you could try is Beef Salpicao. It is the perfect blend of east and west, i.e., seared beef that was marinated in Worcestershire sauce and oyster sauce, topped with sauteed garlic. 😊

If you like city life w/ lots of cafes n restaurants or just chill out, Makati city n BGC is the best place to go...but if you like to go a beach for a swim or scuba , Anilao in Batangas is just about 2-3 hrs drive frm Manila, if you are into surfing then go north to La Union...besides Manila Cebu city n Iloilo city are nice places to visit...

There are 3 flavors of San Mig, which are Lemon, Apple and Lychee.
You have eaten an over priced Halo Halo, you can just ask from a simple Sari Sari store if they have one or if you see Chowking, they have one. 😊

with re to the sisig dish, you gotta remove the kalamansi seeds because it has a bitter taste to it. actually, this applies to all dishes wherein one chooses to squeeze the filipino lime, for that matter.

Sisig is drinking food. Nothing special. But the business owners love to sell that because when miced pork meat is sold as Sisig the profit is so huge. Avoid Sisig with mayonaise or egg, it Fakeness on a plate.

We love trying the traditional food of a country! And we love silog for breakfast! ♥️🇵🇭
You are supposed to mix all the ingredients before eating the halo halo. The tagalog word halo means mix. So you have to mix it up first. There is no sugar added to halo halo. The individual ingredients are already cooked with sugar and that is why it has a sweet taste. To prepare the halo halo, they add all the ingredients in a bowl or tall glass and then add shaved ice and evaporated milk. You then mix them all up then eat it.

Sisig is my absolute favorite food ever. But don't get turned off, because Sisig is made of pig's face, ears, and liver. But you barely taste these textures anyway. the most popular and traditional silog is Tapsilog ("tapa", flavored beef), another popular silog is Tocilog ("tocino" flavored sweet pork)
Sisig is also commonly a "beer food" , people prefer it partnered with alcohol
also, the comments already told you, make sure you try halo-halo again next time, but this time mix it, and also make sure you get the one with Ube ice cream since that is the traditional Halo-halo
I really like that they use more parts of the animal, nothing goes to waste and it all tastes great.

And a little tip whenever you wanna try Filipino food like Barbecue/grilled/fried, whatever meat it is, and the waiter provided like a small dipper with calamansi on it (Philippine Lime) or if there's none you can ask for it, that is for the dipped or we call it sawsawan which you mix Soy Sauce, Vinegar, and Calamansi, there's no exact proportion for it you just make your own it depends on you if you want it like to taste vinegary or salty, and you can also add chilis if you want to have some kick to it. And for another dessert try "Mango Float" if you ever find one. Enjoy you guys! 😁🤙
