  • Some photographs taken at the Birmingham Powerhouse Alldayer way back in 1985. Lots of pics are lost, misplaced, damaged or given away so I thought it best just to upload some before they're all lost in the mists of time. So, Enjoy!

Use to come over from Preston 84, 85 and was only 14/15. Fake ID and just enough money to get in and share an orange juice with my friend. It was all about the music. Exciting days.

Does anyone remember 'The Powerhouse Strutt' that everyone did at the same time. The whole of the dancefloor moving together in time. Also, remember the funky lighting they had where the lights moved up and down from the ceiling. That was technology in them days. Happy memeories when music was music.

Yep - it was the only nightclub I ever remember where everyone did a 'line dance'. Only time I've seen anything similar is as a warm up in dance classes (e.g. salsa). Some amazing dancing there in the 80s. I remember the back room at all dayers being set aside for Jazz dancing too. I was a student at Brum Uni back then and went in to Brum on my own most of the time to the Powerhouse cos all the students I knew were in to James, Joy Division, The Smiths and all that sort of stuff.

shunter196 I remember the fantastic light show going up and down from the ceiling. I lived in Leamington then and a crowd of us used to go over every Thursday night. I remember them playing the extended version of P-Machinery by Propaganda to those lights, brilliant times!

Funny, we got a bus from the North West to one of these events (they did coach trip from one of our local clubs) - we thought we were really cool. I remember being told to take several changes of clothes. Someone below mentioned the Powerhouse Strutt - I think I remember that to 'Freez IOU'

It's good to see that the Asian community got involved in the Club scene up North. In London you did not see many Asians in the clubs.

Used to go there from around 83-84, as well as Boogies, Edwards number 7 and the Dome when it opened. They where all pretty commercial though on a Fri/Sat night, good times though.
