If it is triggered it waits 5 seconds and has a timer to prevent it from being triggered again within a couple of minutes.

Imo praising him for "doing it for his cat" is a bit too much, he probably won't be using it since it is easier to just carry the cat down instead, he needs to be there to make it work after all. Hopefully he will upgrade it so the cat can trigger it somehow and make a few improvements here and there.

All you need to do is give it a sensor so it knows when Frodo is on it, and five seconds or something after it feels movement stop (to allow him to safely sit down) it goes by itself. Then Frodo could actually use it without someone having to press the button all the time. If it felt movement it could stop again so it would never trap his tail or something

What a great way to make sunbathing easier. when Clio went blind we made a point of never putting anything new on the floor so she wouldn’t get confused and always new where she was.

How is this brilliant? There is no way for the cat to use this by himself. The edges are too high for the cat at his age he just won't hope out of it. The only time this could be used if he helped the cat and put him in it and turned it on, just like in the video. But instead, he could just carry the cat much faster. The whole thing was junk.

I’m so surprised at how fearless Frodo is of that machine, my cat would take weeks to even get within ten feet of it. Liam’s Great videos & inventions are always the best way to spend 5-10 minutes.

That is fantastic! What a handsome mush! All that's left is to get a pressure switch on it that automatically lets him down or brings him up. He did look quite content to ride that thing. Good on you for building that for the old boy.
So many ways that could go wrong. One that immediately comes to mind is if a bird or something triggers it, it'll go to the wrong end of the stairs for him, and he'll have to climb to get up/down.
@@tintinismybelgian well it can be solve by set the weight of his cat for plate detection for confirmation. Also can give some delay time start (like 5 seconds or else) to confirm the cat stay on platform and go down. After finish, it should delay time (like 30 seconds or else) before used again to prevent going up by it self when the cat still on board. This might need microcontroller and some programing but this should be easy enough.
My cat, I literally grew up with, lived to be 20. She was the longest-lived pet I ever had, currently. She'll probably be the only cat I will ever own. I do miss her a lot. RIP Jasmine, 1993 - September 3, 2013! 2013 was a bad year; we lost 4 pets.
I feel your loss! I grew up with my granny cat as well. She was over 18 years old, but unfortunately passed away earlier this year. Home without her is just not the same anymore
Thanks for all the sympathy. Poor girl was senile and her body was failing. We actually scheduled an appointment with the vet to put her to sleep on the 4th of September. She passed away quietly in her bed on the 3rd. She was a remarkably healthy and long-lived cat whose only vet appointment was getting spayed when we first got her young. I cremated her & spread half of her ashes in two different places. But I was more torn apart when my beloved dog, Bailey, had to be put down after a second battle of pancreatitis. We had her cremated, too. That's when I became depressed. I don't have diagnosed depression, but it hurts when a pet you watched grow up in front of you for many years go like that.

I've since recovered from the incident, and I now have 2 cats, one named Void after my old cat, and one named Cole. I would say make it so he can go up and down whenever he wants by having a pressure plate kinda thing on the inside so whenever its activated, the elevator would move up and down with no manual input. Just a suggestion tho. Other than that it's perfect

Get the old guy an RFID collar and mount a sensor (or just a pressure plate if you want to be primitive) in the box to trigger the winch after a short delay. Rewire the winch/hoist control so a pressure switch at the top and another at the bottom of the elevator triggers the hoist/winch to switch operations from lift to lower and vice versa relative to where the box is on the next application of power.
Da cat is so senior that he immediately knows it's an elevator without any introduction. Heck, he doesn't even check for safety even though this clumsy dude is his owner. Badass veteran confirmed! Respect! 👏
We had a cat that was 21 years old as well. She was the same age as me, so she basically followed me through the first 21 years of my life. She passed away 7 months ago but before that I carried her down or up the stairs like 30 times a day. Such an elevator would have been useful then, but I managed to give her the freedom of movement nonetheless.
Honestly, just reminds me of my cat Cutie, had her 18 years before she went. Exact same attitude as Frodo there, and it makes me happy to see him so happy and healthy. He's got one hell of a friend and i wish you both good health and happiness

That is the perfect mad inventor cat companion right there. He's seen it all, and goes along without complaining. Now you'll be inundated with meowing requests to go up, and down.
What you should do is ad a pressure or weight sensor that activates the elevator and when he gets back on it lifts him back up so you don't have to control it every time he comes out!

Cool invention! But, I noticed that Frodo's tail could get caught in the track as the lift is going up. Maybe a small door would help to prevent his tail from coming out of the lift as it's going up.
I was at first somewhat critical about the whole thing, but after I realized you were doing it out of complete love and not just for clicks; it made me so happy.

But even if a button could be accessed from both ends it would be easy to train cat to push it on.
That is my concern as well. Trouble is that a human has to be present to make it work. The cat can't be autonomous with it.

That is fantastic! What a handsome mush! All that's left is to get a pressure switch on it that automatically lets him down or brings him up. He did look quite content to ride that thing. Good on you for building that for the old boy.
You need to add a pressure plate that automatically starts it moving for him.
So many ways that could go wrong. One that immediately comes to mind is if a bird or something triggers it, it'll go to the wrong end of the stairs for him, and he'll have to climb to get up/down.

@@tintinismybelgian well it can be solve by set the weight of his cat for plate detection for confirmation. Also can give some delay time start (like 5 seconds or else) to confirm the cat stay on platform and go down. After finish, it should delay time (like 30 seconds or else) before used again to prevent going up by it self when the cat still on board. This might need microcontroller and some programing but this should be easy enough.

My cat, I literally grew up with, lived to be 20. She was the longest-lived pet I ever had, currently. She'll probably be the only cat I will ever own. I do miss her a lot. RIP Jasmine, 1993 - September 3, 2013!

I feel your loss! I grew up with my granny cat as well. She was over 18 years old, but unfortunately passed away earlier this year. Home without her is just not the same anymore
Thanks for all the sympathy. Poor girl was senile and her body was failing. We actually scheduled an appointment with the vet to put her to sleep on the 4th of September. She passed away quietly in her bed on the 3rd.
She was a remarkably healthy and long-lived cat whose only vet appointment was getting spayed when we first got her young. I cremated her & spread half of her ashes in two different places.
But I was more torn apart when my beloved dog, Bailey, had to be put down after a second battle of pancreatitis. We had her cremated, too. That's when I became depressed. I don't have diagnosed depression, but it hurts when a pet you watched grow up in front of you for many years go like that.

I've since recovered from the incident, and I now have 2 cats, one named Void after my old cat, and one named Cole. I hope you're OK and have recovered from your problems, as from experience it was quite difficult (to say the least) to go through the basic things in life after that.

I would say make it so he can go up and down whenever he wants by having a pressure plate kinda thing on the inside so whenever its activated, the elevator would move up and down with no manual input. Just a suggestion tho. Other than that it's perfect

@@eeeeeeee4968 Having had many elderly cats, they'll catch on plenty quick to ways to get up and down things in the least achy way possible. Get the old guy an RFID collar and mount a sensor (or just a pressure plate if you want to be primitive) in the box to trigger the winch after a short delay. Rewire the winch/hoist control so a pressure switch at the top and another at the bottom of the elevator triggers the hoist/winch to switch operations from lift to lower and vice versa relative to where the box is on the next application of power.

We had a cat that was 21 years old as well. She was the same age as me, so she basically followed me through the first 21 years of my life.
She passed away 7 months ago but before that I carried her down or up the stairs like 30 times a day. Such an elevator would have been useful then, but I managed to give her the freedom of movement nonetheless.

Honestly, just reminds me of my cat Cutie, had her 18 years before she went. Exact same attitude as Frodo there, and it makes me happy to see him so happy and healthy. He's got one hell of a friend and i wish you both good health and happiness

What you should do is ad a pressure or weight sensor that activates the elevator and when he gets back on it lifts him back up
so you don't have to control it every time he comes out!

that is the sweetest thing I have ever seen!!!! What a nice thing for you to do for your cat......and that he really likes it is so cool! I'm sure this will give other cat owners the incentive to makeshift something for their cats as well to help them get around easier. After all they give us so much pleasure.......its the least we can do for them.
Cool invention! But, I noticed that Frodo's tail could get caught in the track as the lift is going up. Maybe a small door would help to prevent his tail from coming out of the lift as it's going up.
