one of the biggest ways to reduce the trash problem - reduce waste. this may mean using reusable shopping bags (like cloth) for groceries, random other stuff. (this will reduce or get rid of the need of plastic bags at stores). doing things like buying reusable water bottles/mugs for hot drinks (so there will be less waste from starbucks/tims/McDonald coffee cups.
there is so many ways that we can greatly reduce our waste. I don't know if we will ever get to 0% waste, but we can definitely work at reducing waste, recycling and reusing stuff as much as possible, etc.

We should recycle a LOT more.
All the metals and plastics that still end up in landfill could still be recycled.

@Carldawgh I install energy management systems and it has me buying supplies from electrical, plumbing and air conditioning wholesalers.
Last year I was looking for some brass compression fittings for a job and was having a hard time finding them.
I went to my last option supplier who always charges more but always has what I need.
He said I wish you were here last week. He then told me he took a whole truck load of the fittings I need to the dump.
I asked why he would do that. He said if it sits on the shelf more than a year he has to factor the cost of having a guy inventory it and pay the the taxes on it.
He said they got audited by the IRS and they went thru the warehouse and figured out how much of their inventory was more than a year old and they were fined and required to pay taxes on it.
Since then I have realized everyone my company does business with is throwing perfectly good brand new parts in the trash at the end of their fiscal year to avoid the wrath of the IRS.
It would be much better for companies to be allowed to pay taxes on their parts when they are sold.
Years ago I would go to my suppliers and buy most things right off the shelf. Now it all has to be ordered.
      Now I understand why.

I got an idea to add to ways of solving the problem - learn to restrain and refrain ourselves from dumping trash into the ocean, other water ways and everywhere on land. Hm, I guess that means it would require some EFFORT on the part of each person to take responsibility for every single thing they consume and what's left afterward. It's a novel idea, I know, but I think it's one worth doing. And yes, I recycle everything I can - you name it, I recycle it. What I have left behind could easily be incinerated and would become as you pointed out, energy to run the whole operation. We all need to take individual responsibility for every action we do on this planet and if you're not recycling everything you can and searching for ways to continue to be good stewards of this planet that gives us life, then you're contributing to the problem.

I think waste is actually not waste but as u said its like A FUEL or a source of energy which is unsorted and in a kind of bad condition. If we can make a portable sorter to get the material out of landfill to our stations then we can actually reuse and process it . And innovation is always there to help us out.

Hello TH-cam. The world garbage problem I think is caused by a misunderstanding that Earth is our life support system rather than something we just keep taking resources from. I've researched the global waste problem and have found some internet articles/documentaries stating it's really bad and others saying the problem is being solved. Here's some ideas, some may be good others dumb, I'm no expert.
    1. Lasers- millions of degrees (example National Ignition Facility USA 10 Million degrees Celsius), could vaporize any waste type?
    2. Nuclear fusion reactors- also really hot, waste could be put in a metal box then put in a chamber above to equalize pressure and dropped into plasma (Tokamak type)
    3. Acids- some are really strong and can dissolve metals
    4. Underground nuclear/thermobaric/napalm weapon explosions (huge pits could be dug, filled, covered and bomb exploded)
    5. Volcanoes (put in metal container to sink before melting)
    6. Collision-Vaporization (Sandia Laboratory conducted a test where a plane was slammed into a concrete wall at 700 mph and vaporized on impact, maybe a cone-shaped container accelerated to high speeds could be vaporized along with waste contents?)
    7. Deep borehole disposal (Soviet Union dug Kola Superdeep Borehole, several miles depth, maybe more could be dug in remote areas?)
    8. Suborbital space container reentry vaporization- capsule (metal no heat shield) shot into suborbital trajectory via rocket could reenter atmosphere and be vaporized along with waste
    9. Lightning rods (lightning turns sand into glass), maybe waste piled around one could be vaporized?
    10. Capsule storage (landfill alternative until technologies get better- giant concrete/metal/plastic capsules could be used for storage and stacked, no leachate leaks like landfills?)
    11. Trash tanks- similar to oil terminals- big tanks where waste could decompose and leachate could be contained?
12.'Macrowave' (like microwave only bigger- heat device used to fry waste?)
    13. Solar tower- sunlight used to fry waste (similar to solar tower energy), vaporizing it (or via satellite mirror for more heat)?
    14. Better landfills (meantime before better tech is developed)- metal/concrete/plastic/glass liners to avoid pollution from leachate?
    15. Nanomite consumption
The global waste problem is solvable I think like most issues. It needs to be soon since our population is rising and making more waste. Some things like Zero-Waste Recycling, Trash-Energy systems and Plasma Gasification show promise. Also reducing global population along with our material-loving culture may help. Lets stop trashing the Earth.

  • @Wrongrealities

You're right, but that's a hard pill to swallow for a lot of people. It is clear that the planet is over populated. Some people think that the human population should be no larger than 500,000 world wide. I think that's a bit low, but a good number to have on each continent. This would solve more than just the trash issue. There would be no hunger, we would not be forcing other creatures into extinction and global warming would only happen because of a natural event.

Along side better systems for landfill sorting and strict regulations for people and business to sort at the source. If you're to lazy to sort your waste into the correct recycling bin's leaving someone else to have to deal with that then you should have to pay for it.

Plastics, even the low grade ones that can't be recycled (such as the ones used in items such as plastic films, drinking straws and plastic cutlery) can actually be shredded and then melted to produce an alternative to bitumen for use in road surfacing.
This means that less oil has to be extracted to obtain the bitumen, and the plastic isn't going into the oceans or being burnt.

I think it has to start with individuals. We can’t wait for the government to make changes/laws nor can we wait for scientists to come up with solutions. Yes that will help with the problem we’ve already created but we(individuals) have to be the first ones to take action. The first step is CONSUME LESS. Be mindful is what your purchasing. Think ahead of how the the packaging of what your buying will be disposed of. If consumers stop buying products packaged in plastic and demand biodegradable alternatives the seller will meet that need. It’s the supply and demand system that speaks louder than any government official. We can’t passively wait for the government to make changes.
With that said I am constantly frustrated at the store trying to find and buy products not packaged in plastic. Sometimes it’s impossible to get around it. But if more and more people speak up about it or just stop buying products in plastic our voices can be heard. Using reusable bags is another great option. It takes some effort in the beginning to remember to take the bags but it soon becomes routine. These are only a few small things compared to a huge problem but a lot of small changes can add up to a huge difference.
I really like this video btw! It is encouraging to learn that there is research and effort going into coming up with a solution for the mess we have in front of us. Finland is such an awesome country. I love that place. America could learn a lot from Finland!

We could even be using synthetic fuels such as gasoline from air, syngas from landfil, syngas from bio mass to be powering our vehicles. A way more efficient use of reclaimed fuels.

Or maybe one day we will be able to recycle everything that we throw away today. We can also follow into the footsteps of hawaii and some european nations and ban plastic bags. We can make it a national law for every building (house, office, store, restruant) to have recycling bins. These are just some thoughts, I am sure there are so much more.

If all packaging was made of compostable non-toxic materials, the creation of landfills was replaced with the creation of composting centers, and all trash cans and recycling bins were replaced with compost collection vessels, throwing away trash that doesn't effect the planet negatively would be as easy as putting your trash in a garbage can. The main flaw with this plan is that it would be very difficult to change everything we produce into compostable products. Batteries would be difficult to make compostable.

Aside from what's already been said about the fuel needed to launch the rocket (which is staggeringly expensive -- ask NASA) there's something else to consider: resource erosion. As 7 billion people becomes 14 billion, then 28 billion, and so on, and we just keep dumping the waste in the sun, the source material disappears and we get nothing back. Better by far to encourage people to switch to materials that can more easily break down and be reprocessed.

Like our other waste problems of gas and driving and shipping scrap, a redesign of cities and subdivisions is necessary. Bulk local storage of food in markets allows easy access to unpackaged foods and drinks as needed. Localized stuff distributors would easily allow no packaging. But all this would not be as "fun" for humans who are trained to think they are at the center of a universe without meaning. Also these things wouldn't make more money short term .
Money isn't bad as a representation of goods and services. The idea that life is not an interconnected web of sacred bond is driving dissociated self absorption into immediate harvest of all goods with no thought to future harvests of goods, education and human life.

Plasma gasification is the way to go, and also special landfills that collect the methane gas, and once depleted, the intert garbage will be put in the gasifier and turned to slag and gasses. This can then be used as construction material.
Methane from garbage should be collected and used to burn the garbage itself, in special environment friendly incinerators.

If we make it we should be able to recycle it. If not then shred it to the smallest piece possible, then if we have to put into a landfill it will not take a million years to decompose. In heavy water from nuclear plant we can turn in to class blocks like by using process of making glass. If it breaks it does not enter the drinking water supply.

Their supply chain, should contain the responsible waste control of their containers. Goverments needs to work locally with them.

The solutions is to return the products that we don't use anymore or products that are broken to the companies where the products were produced, in that way the companies will recover important materials to be reused or recycled or use parts to make new product , in this way the companies will need to change the mentality about create product that not just end up in the landfills , it is time in Not just create products that only make money and that's it !
-let's say a bottle of shampoo "trademark X" from the company "Y", it is empty now!, Instead to throw away the bottle into the trash container, better returned to the factory or company where it was produced. Then in this way the plastic bottle won't be wasted uselessly in a landfill.
-let's say an automobile "trademark X" also once that it is not useful anymore, it should be returned back to the company where it was produced, they should know how to handle all the materials or parts from an expired automobile, they must to be able to recover material and other parts, in this way in the future they will need to produce automobiles with the mentality to reuse the material to build new automobiles.
-and so on: clothes, furnitures, plastic bags, electro domestic, soda cans , toys , mobile phones , tires, computers, airplanes, space rockets, bikes, weapons, satellites ,etc....All the products that have been created and if they are not useful anymore or they have finished their utility purpose, they should be returned to the companies who create them, because companies are just creating the products with the vision to make profit without thinking what is going to happen to the product once it has cover its purpose...this is a miscalculation of the industrial revolution that is affecting our present and the future.

A closed number of vehicles driving autonomusly through the city. The user will reserve a vehicle that will arrive at the designated time to pick up the user. The same goes for waste, a closed number of bottles / cans will run through the system with the ability of adding a bottle/ can only when the product had reached the end of its life.

Hence, what i am saying is this ,, we need to protect our planet.

Build a power plant by the ocean kinda like fukashima but instead of it being powered by nuclear, its powered by trash. Trash is fed into giant blast furnaces, gases go through filtration and or transformation process until it safe. the high heat generated by the system turns sea water into steam/ impurities and salt, steam powers corrosion resistant turbines, turns back into desalinated water that either power dynomos for direct electricity or crank giant water pump to route water up into a resavuar lake for back up power generation. trash is elliminated, power is obtained. fresh water is produced people survive on this planet.

  • @ShanborshaunshangpliangShangpl

My suggestions is simple ..we bury the thrash and covered it with a mud at an average height laminating or pressed carefully. .and then what..its simple the land should not be wasted just because we buried garbage..we put solar farm on top of it or maybe green houses for environmental balanced. .or perhaps there is a system too that we could trapped methane gas as well by creating some room for the gas too be filled in..and offcos this will involves scientific installation. .

Encourage manufacturers to make products that are rebuildable. Such as changing a sim card or ic chip to upgrade their product. Give a lower tarif or tax to companies that keep their product out of recycling the longest. Send outdated products to lower wage countries to encourage its reuse. Source out parts in electronics like they do with car parts.

There are some interesting, and cool ideas here. But with the part where you suggest the plasma - gas process could output energy to the grid, are you not stepping into the perpetual motion/free energy space? Or is this more of a "If we put enough fuel in, we'll get more energy than we need to run the system, and the excess can be used for output" type of situation?

    • @lendluke
      @lendluke 9 ปีที่แล้ว

Democracy and Capitalism - meaning allowing free minds to address the problem from a solution/profit angle (and don't forge ego - a great motivator); if the government IS involved, then it would be in setting goals (such as waste-free products) and offering rewards (such as funds for initiating the solution)... a new world philosophy is needed, too - a paradigm shift in thinking...

    • @silentcovemusic

Acid doesn't break down materials into "nothing". The waste will just be corroded by acid and change either its state or form due to the reaction. It may be a gas, liquid or solid even...You might just have waste in sludge form instead, whilst also polluting the air with toxic waste in gaseous form.

There is no way to remove all waste so if that was the case I'd go with TeribblePuddle's idea of destroying humans, what should be done is find a way to generate less waste in food and item packaging, If we reduced all plastic packaging even only by 30%, I'm sure that would make a phenomenal difference in the amount of trash in land fills, instead of putting everything in plastic, more grocery stores should sell things by ounce to encourage you to bring a durable container like Whole foods

  • @jreese323
    @jreese323 7 ปีที่แล้ว

zero waste is where we need to be heading. most plastic we use is single use plastic - packaging and crap we just immediately throw away. except there really is no "away". we need more bulk grocery stores and options to buy without so much wasteful packaging. shop at the farmers market. stop buying plastic and synthetics (think wood, metals, cotton, wool, etc.). we need to punish corporations who create the most waste and wasteful products via taxes and fees, and incentivize businesses to work toward zero waste operations and manufacturing/packaging options. we also need to make lobbying illegal so these mega-corporations can't just buy out politicians and continue to pollute and poison and trash the earth. in addition, people in communities need to step up and start composting, reusing, borrowing, sharing, etc. the main part of the issue is our consumption habits. we are a consumer-driven, throw away culture. products are made cheap and break, get thrown away and then we have to buy new ones. its a major systemic issue that involves many moving parts.
