The priest they interviewed was correct about the fact the the separation of church and state is alien to Orthodoxy and has always been, starting from the Byzantine Empire. I used to think of that as abhorrent, but looking at what atheism has wrought here in the west, I'm starting to change my mind on that and I'm also thinking about renouncing my atheism and joining the Orthodox Church here in Finland.
This is basic Vice news stuff, trying to make Christianity and especially Orthodox Christianity as well as Russia somehow sinister. Sure there are many issues in Russia on their politics, but I would trade their issues with the issues we are facing here in the west in a heartbeat!

Hi, real person here. I am an American Christian asking for the prayers of all who read this, both Western and Orthodox Christians. I have a profound respect for The Beauty and Truth of Orthodoxy. I pray that the Orthodox Church in Russia is strengthened and that they can resist all the various pressures that will certainly face them.
To all Orthodox Christians and Russians, I apologize for what our media and government sometimes does. Russia is not the only nation with corruption at the Top sometimes. (But i am thankful that we have freedoms to voice opinions like that, and that is one of the many reasons I am proud to be an American, just like Russians should be proud to be Russians). There is rich greatness in each people group on Earth. God made us different because together we all make one fantastic people. A lot of times, people want to make another culture just like there's. But that is not biblical. God came down and met us where we were. So we should reach out and love other Christian cultures as brothers and sisters in Christ, Rather than try to change them to be just like us.
Also, Theologically I hope that you can realize that although western Christianity sometimes seems like a mess, there is truth and beauty in it also for those who seek God whole heartedly. Christ is truly in our midst as well! I think we are two lovely sides of the same coin. Yes Orthodoxy has remained more Grounded, but not all western innovations have been so bad.
The Truth is at the end of the day, we have to remember that it is just people who are on the other side of the world. Our governments might not get along, but we people have no reason to fight. We all just love our families, work to pay the bills, and many of us just want to worship our Holy God. Therefore we must speak out to our governments and DEMAND peace. Tell them that we do not want to keep fighting each other, and our governments will have to listen to us if we all speak out. We do not want to fight with Russia. Russia is a beautiful country and is increasingly becoming a Christian nation again. (At least this is what I perceive).
Also please pray for America. America was once a Christian nation, but now we commit acts of aggression. We have been very militaristic for the last 100 years, something I pray that we will calm down, and we are abandoning traditional Christian morality for liberalism, atheism, and all manner of sins. And then the "right" is often judgmental of others and sometimes does more harm than good as well.

Seeing people pray in a public park is a "deliberate provocation"??? I'm Catholic and I don't EVER feel provoked when I see Muslims praying to Makkah in public! When my parish has Eucharistic processions down the middle of the street no-one has ever seemed to be bothered. These Orthodox are just hanging out in a corner of a park!
