I love the integrity of your feelings toward a "continuous footpath". That's why we think you are the Best! Your mounteering skills are becoming quite impressive!!
I like her videos despite her fixation with “continuous footpath “. It’s just made up nonsense to think that there is a footpath and that’s doing it continuously. The hike is about the journey, not the destination and not in making the journey part of an arbitrary score-keeping rat-race dominated by your own internalization of external social norms. The trail is where you can live outside those social norms and bs.
That Boujee guy? What a great hiking partner to have! This tramily is awesome!
I'm glad you had a good day. I was hoping you'd have one. Mather pass is indeed very nice. Looks like not a lot of snow going up as well. Choosing your own path is always the best way forward. A few things I did want to comment about I hope you don't mind.
1. You all are not using your ice axes correctly, especially when glissading down from the pass. That's not how you use an ice axe. Also, when going up hill, the ice axe should be vertical almost and not in an extreme angle forward as is shown by one of you (Bujiee?) in the vid. If you put it forward like that then you won't be able to self arrest when needed. You're just going to slide down while the ice axe stays up there. Especially since I don't see any of you using a cord to tie your wrist to the ice axe.
2. The road walk according to the map seems like a 12 mile walk. That's nothing. I think you should not give up on it so good for you.
3. My final point is a very personal view point. You mentioned the PCTA and what they recognize or do not recognize. Does it matter? Are you hiking for yourself and your goals or what some association decides one should do? Same goes for the ATC. Who cares what they recognize or not. Follow what YOU want, whether it coinsides with the PCTA or not. And if you decide you want to hike a beautiful side trail paralleling the PCT? you are not going to hike that just because it does not have the trail markers of the PCT? Just my thoughts.
Good luck with the bypass. Seems like you got another one coming up near Red Meadows.
Line of the day: "The wonderful Bouj that he is..." Great stuff. Hope this finds you all well, healthy and strong. Stay safe on your journey. Jack NYC
I'll bet nobody around today has walked the same footpath as the first person who walked it. There will always be natural disasters. The path is alive and will always be changing.
Yes, you are fantastic and so is Boujee! I am so proud of you all. You get better at traversing these here mountains everyday.
The Bouj! What a great guy!
Our country is so beautiful! Let's take care of it, LNT
Thank you for the views RR!
WOW JUST WOW! what beautiful scenery. Thanks for having us along 🎉🎉🎉
I think you're right about doing the road walk. More people are going to have to get in that frame of mind with all the yearly closures on the PCT. If you ever do the CDT you will *definitely* be doing road walks to do the continuous 3000 miles.
A continuous footpath was the goal, Good for you for sticking with it. Beautiful mountains and rushing waterfalls. Hike~~On~~>
It is so cool that you want to have the continuous footpath and do all for it! I would do the same, it would also be really important for me. I hope there will be no fires in your way......I am sure you can do it and reach the goal :)) Happy trails and thank you for the videos. Matthias
I love that you are a purist, but this is beyond your control and due to safety reasons; so whatever decision you make I totally support you. Sending love❤
great videos and fun you make the comedy come alive and make it fun . thru all situations
❤ is for admiration for your determination to take a continuous footpath. You must follow your heart.
Shooting Stars! I miss those so much.
How strange is that where you hiked the AT with Groceries then you run across a hiker name Pantry on the PCT for a difficult section! That slope looked really steep, that’s a heck of a workout given you are at at least 10,000 feet. Great work everyone!
Mather Pass is @ 12,068'. Upper Basin (the last of the "level" landscape is above 11,000' 🙂
I knew when you said it, there was no way you weren't going to reconsider. Just the look on your face as you were explaining it. Lol You do what makes you happy. Kudos to Boujee!
What a great day and awesome climb up the pass. Good call following the alternate and not attempting the San Joaquin river crossing. I'm with you, I'd do the continuous foot path as well. And what an awesome dude Bougee is for sticking with you. Class act for sure! I must have missed when Pantry joined the Tramily. I've been in and out of watching your videos, so yeah I missed it. Today is the 20th if June and I think I'm still about six days behind on your videos. Anyway, great job by all. Be safe and happy trails!
I for one do not think it's ridiculous to want continuous footpath. I think it shows your integrity.
You guys had me on the edge of my seat with that steep incline of Mather's Pass! Sorry hope I said the right place. Glad all of you made it safely! Gorgeous views of the Sierras! 😊
I love that you’re staying true to your desire to maintain a continuous footpath. If it were me and I didn’t maintain a continuous footpath then I know I would end up having so much regret and it would totally bother me. Good on you! FYI… I watch every video. 😊
I’m glad you are trying it. That’s why I love your videos. I have said it before thank you for sharing your journey
Probably not information available to you as you made this decision but…
There is a trail between the Bishop Pass Trailhead (south lake parking lot) and the Piute Pass Trailhead (north lake parking lot. So, a road walk isn’t necessary to do the continuous footpath. You cannot camp on it with your PCTA permit but you can day hike it easily.
And the PCTA is specifically asking PCT hikers to not do the road walk you are discussing due to the dangers it causes to both the hikers and drivers on that narrow, mountainous, winding road.
Recommend any future hikers use Gaia or CalTopo or paper maps to aid them in making this navigation for however long the bridge bypass is necessary. (If they want to maintain the “continuous footpath” as roadrunner and so many other hikers want to do.)
I’m so enjoying watching you guys on your adventure!!!!
Tyee Lakes to Sabrina?
@@grega8586 yup. Tyee to lake Sabrina. Sabrina basin trail to the Sabrina lake parking lot. There’s still a short road walk b/w Sabrina and North Lake but much shorter (and safer) than going all the way down to the road junction.
The PCTA doesn't give a damn about hikers. Their detours should always be ignored. Over the last 10 years that I have been following PCT hikers I have seen so many trail closures like this. The PCTA's solution is always the same. Get off trail and hitchhike or take public transit. Even when with just a few minutes of looking at GAIA maps, you can find endless perfectly good detour routes that don’t even require road walking. In this case there are at least 5 good detour routes that offer a continuous footpath. But the PCTA doesn’t care. They just want hikers to get off the trail.
@@MaxZomboni the PCTA has zero control or say regarding this reroute. This decision comes from the land agencies in the area (the park service and the forest service.) The PCTA website is simply a conduit to convey these decisions to hikers.
@@fauxname9577 Actually the PCTA is a independent organization and they make the decisions. The road walk she took is not under the control of any land agencies, except maybe Caltrans. The PCTA is the one telling hikers not to do that, no one else.
Continuous footpath, definitely s goal to have and this is a spot where it makes sense. There was a fire in Oregon a few years ago that caused a 70-mile roadwalk on a heavily traveled two lane highway or a 20-mile break in continuous footpath and a 100+ mile drive, people made decisions as needed, including some who returned to walk that closed trail three years later to complete their continuous thread. HYOH, indeed 😊
So interesting watch you all climb up the snow. Did not realize how steep.!
Views are better everyday.
Respect for the continuous footpath. I watched a couple do the PCT a few years ago who road walked around fire closures.
That is one crazy path up over that mountain but you all made it.
I so totally agree with you about the continuos foot path. It would just be important to me to do it if I could.
Your authenticity is awesome. Yes, indeed, you are in the most incredibly beautiful place. Thanks so much for sharing those views. You are the real deal.
Well, as a Mather of fact, you gotta do what you gotta do, and that's that! Good on ye! 😊👍
A continuous footpath via the PCT-2024 route (including a detour via Bishop Pass and Paiute Pass) makes perfect sense. There's another detour ahead around the bridge closure at mile 912 (Red's Meadow). From June 7, that detour will involve a road-ish walk, because there is also road construction, so hikers are not allowed to actually walk on the road. You have to take the summer shuttle bus (on weekends) OR walk well off the side out of the construction zone. Note also that walking up the road from Aspendell to North Lake (to get to the North Lake trailhead) is not recommended (but by now you've already done it, since these videos are off-sync by a week).
Hike the hike that you want to hike, don't let others tell you what your hike should be.
Great video. Unbelievable mountains you guys are so lucky. What elevation are you at 12,000 14,000 feet. Amazing.
More and more spectacular scenery in every episode. Be safe and thank you for such great filming!
Wow what views! Love living here in the mountains of the Sierra Nevada mountains!
I couldn't agree with you more! Continuous footsteps is what I believe in! I support you 100%. Way to go!
- Shybee
I was holding my breath watching y’all climbing 😮
Y’all are doing it. I’m so glad y’all have each other’s backs!
What a great video today! You must be very strong to ascend Mather before the rest of your group. It was fun watching each person reach the top after you. Also, some of the still shots today were fantastic. Your mood seems really good. I like your idea of doing the road walk from South Lake to North Lake to maintain a continuous footpath. In the big picture, it really is just an alternate path through that part of the Sierra. And going down into Bishop should be enjoyable as well!
I watch your videos every day, you do such a good job telling your story. The Mather pass video is why I watch hiking videos, I will never be there but I can see it through your camera, THANK YOU!!
One day when your hike is completed, you know you will be happier with that continuous foot pathway. you can never redo this trip, make it the best one for you. 😊
Like I always say, you never want to be the cautionary tale. Being a purist with a continuous footpath I get but, at the end of the day, the only person who it truly matters to, is you.❤️ Happy trails.🤘🏻🥾⛰️
Another splendid video. I admire your integrity of trying your best for a continuous footpath. I do hope you are still going to meet up with BirdCall and BossBoe and continue after that. The four of you seem to make a perfect Tramily. I love your photo shots. Keep taking them please!!! See you tomorrow.
No, it is not ridiculous! That is exactly what I would try to do.
Another excellent leg of the adventure!!! Thank you...
Continuous foot path is the point, LETS GO!
I applaud your commitment to walking a continuous footpath from Mexico to Canada! I also think you do a great job of balancing the fact that walking the PCT includes a number of risky situations, but there are times when the risk is definitely not worth it. Also, go Boujee for being sensitive to you and joining you on the road walk. Great video.
Yooooo I'm getting chills watching this. Making such great progress!!!
I agree with you 100% That's what I would do!!!
I admire you for making the choices that are true for you! AND that you have a friend that will road walk with you. What a kind hearted soul! The scenery was beautiful today but that shot near the end of snow melt just running down those smooth rocks was amazing!
Another perspective could be that the PCTA recommended alternate IS this year’s “official” PCT. Hmmmm… 😊😊
Jepp - to ME it is ridiculous.
BUT this is not MY journey-it’s your journey. And this truly means a lot to YOU.
That should be the only thing thar matters on THIS journey.
And that I really get! :)
Best wishes for your hike on forward :)
Integrity and principled
The PCT closure is 25 miles. The re-route hikes between PCT and the Lakes totals 28.4 (3.4 miles more than the closure). So whether you walk the road (which PCTA deems not safe) or arrange a ride from S to N Lake, IMO, there is always a connection to earth.
I knew you would do like you do, stubborn German 😂 Well, deep respect for your attitude and comittment to keep the continous footpath.
Thanks so much for the beautiful views !
Hopefully your puns get better after your coffee!
Wow! What a day!
Great show for those of us who will never get the chance! Terrific scenery. And thanks too for the explanation and telling what it means to you. May the best be yet to come... and best wishes for finding what you are looking for! Happy trails.
Every little stream we passed last week in the Highlands of Scotland we heard your virtual voice “rivercrossing” 😂😂😂. We should buy your rivercrossing t-shirts in a short while. We enjoy your videos very much ❤
Plenty of practice in Scotland, but not the intense snowmelt shown in the video, Bog crossin
@@richardwebb5317 you're right
Dusy basin is really nice
You guys have every right to feel confident. You completed a series of difficult alpine conditions.
You have a lifetime of adventure ahead, whether it's Whitney, Shasta, Rainier, CDT San Juan's, et al
Congratulations!
I get you on the continuous footpath!!!!!!! YES indeed!!!
I totally understand why you're doing the road walk. I think I would do the same myself (although, of course, it's easy for me to say that sitting at home watching TH-cam).
I watch every video! Proud of it! Thanks for sharing your journey!
ETA….being true to yourself is so wonderful!
Hike your own hike. That's all that matters.
There is no try! Only do! It’s your hike. The only think that matters is you are satisfied with what you do
Whats Here name? Pantry? Add here to the tramily!!🎉😊
You go girl hike you own hike proud of you
This be us all I have to say today! Congratulations ya all 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏!
that was crazy! It was much more treacherous than what we saw. The video doesn't do it justice. You are a hard-a55!
That was not hiking or backpacking but just plain mountaineering. Intense!
No. It's not plain mountaineering. This is classic alpine hiking. No need to go overboard with things.
The views today were incredible. Thank you for sharing your journey. That Mather pass looks very steep. I love how you guys are all mountaineering pros now.
They are doing well, but they are not remotely close to mountaineering pros. I think there is a need to also be honest for their sake. I was a bit worried when they said in the vid that now they feel very very confident. Mather pass is nothing more than a standard mountain pass. Nothing technical, nor sketchy. If one thinks that this is somehow special workings here, then others might get that impression as well and that's not good.
@Yetithruhikes hey I did not mean literally ready to climb K2 or anything. But just pros in the sense they can hike over passes with confidence. You are correct it is important to have a healthy amount of fear that one can throw caution to the wind.
@@saskhiker3935 Indeed💕
I wholeheartedly respect your desire for a continuous footpath. It brought a tear to my eye listening to you explain that you’re going to do the road walk. Happy that Boujee is going with you. Hope the Tramily sticks together. Ya’ll are a joy to follow. Your journey is incredible. One I wish this old lady would have known about in her younger years! I only learned what the PCT and other thru hike trails were (city girl in me) a few months ago and I’ve been following a few hikers journeys since then. I live near the Sierra in Northern CA and I hope to get out and try some easy day hikes this summer! You’ve inspired me. Keep on keeping on and take care out there!
16:39 If you are putting in all this effort, for thousands of miles, over such epic terrain, I would feel the same way. I’ll be damned if I miss 1 mile, or 50 feet. If you’re gonna do it, do it all and do it well!
Honor is required for the continuous foot path. It is far to easy to say, it is approved for safety reasons, We don’t have to do it the hard way its ok. Up until you are far down the trail, or at home thinking, I did not fight hard enough to keep the hike “ pure “. Maybe some can do that with no repercussions, it is hard enough to sleep as it is. I am not judging the others in the tramily, just how I would feel if I was there, I am glad that Boujee will be with you. Pain travels faster when shared. Congratulations on Mather Pass. You all looked great. Be safe and hike on.
Beautiful video, glad you bounce well and didn’t hurt yourself, at least not enough to mention. Seem to be Plenty of water sources. 👻
Good luck Julianne hope the route worked out for you. When you get into town check your Venmo and have a drink on me.
So happy for you. Y’all are such badasses. You are killin it! Go girl! Oh bye the way…I haven’t heard those climbs compared to the AT lately….hehehehe…
You're making your way thru . Very good. Stay safe. Lil Chap, Hammer, and Fireball summitted Whitney. Still need to watch Hammer's video...Chap's was so touching and beautiful footage. Thought you'd like to know.
I have been watching each and everyday your adventures. When you first came out about hiking the PCT, I had my doubts, but you are a beast! Keep up the good work, and for making wise decisions along the way.
Julianne, one of the reasons I follow you is because you are a "purist'. I don't enjoy those who skip parts of the trail because of incovenience or because they are choosing an easier route. Today was both fun and also full of anxiety for your safety. But I thoroughly enjoyed the video. Take care. Stay safe. See you tomorrow. Glad Boujee is joing you on the road walk.
Fantastic views!
Great day. Enjoying and following.. You do you.. that's what it's about..😊 Blessings and safe trails..😊
,
Yes I do watch every TH-cam since I found you. And I enjoyed everything you do . Thanks for all sweets things you do. Be safe anytime you though hike. Pct has a lot bad spot. If you have to do a blue trail be safe do it.
Thanks 🙏
agree , continuous footpath
That looked like so much fun! Except the part where it sounds like there's barely enough oxygen to breathe. I want to do it, but probably won't.
They say microspikes are better than nothing, good for Clingman's Dome and Newfound Gap area. They say regular spikes for the Sierras and the Cascades and the CDT much better, more secure. and of coarse safer. You fell several times on this video, I hope you make the switch to regular spikes. I wanted to tell you this before you started the PCT but life happened.
16:57 I would want to do the same thing!!
Thank you
The difference between AT & PCT. Hiking vs mountain climbing. 😮
Was Pantry hiking by herself before joining you all?
We will follow you whither you take the high road or the low road (an old saying). Who's hike is it? It yours ❤
As far as I know no one has died because of that bridge outage.
Harness and rope. Not safe. Avalanche danger and falls. 😮
I'm curious to see how painful the walk on pavement will be. I remember how odd it felt to walk on such a firm surface after hiking for two weeks on trails...
I could just check the map but . . . how long is the extra road walk?
So will this mess up hiking the rest of thr hoke with boss bae and bird call? Or will you meet back up with them in a few days
How you doin gonna do my yoga today
So, if you choose to do glassading down a mountain, instead of walking the switchbacks, isn't that a break in the continuous footpath? And isn't it all less miles then if you were to do the actual PCT switchbacks? The same for going strsighg up and notdoing switchbacks?
As long as your body is touching the ground you are doing a continuous footpath. Riding in a car is not continuous as your feet aren't touching the ground.
