    Reminds me of the pot roast chicken my grandma used to make. Similar ingredients. She started heating up oil, thowing in ginger then browning the chicken on all sides. Next she added the shoyu, etc., put the lid on, flipped the chicken 2/3 of the way in. Took about 45 min to cook, depends on size of the chicken. Thank you so much for posting your video! I just found your pot roast chicken recipe. So ono!

    I am going to try this at home . Do you find you need to add water at any time during the cooking process?

    Going try this way. Niece made shoyu chicken other night and was salty. Only used shoyu, water, and brown sugar and she made sauce by tasting as she poured. I love that u have more ingredients to enhance the flavor!

      This is the way my mom made it. Learned a lot of tips from her and aunts.

    Could you have precut the chicken into 4 quarters and cook it in the pot that way to make maneuvering the chicken in the pot easier?

    • @HawaiisPickleLady
      @HawaiisPickleLady  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's different with a whole chicken, you get the browning evenly.

      @@HawaiisPickleLady Oh okay. I guess too with a whole chicken the meat juices are retained better too. Mahalo for replying back.

    Looks better than the one we buy in HNL Chinatown . I need those wooden spoons to wrestle the chicken in the pot. I’ll try and will make extra sauce for the rice .
    How about stuff duck with barley, chestnuts, mushroom and lots of gravy

      My mom used to make this for special occasions and I've made it several times. It is very time intensive because you have to steam the duck and remove all the bones. When time is free, I'll do it.

    Brown sugar is also needed. Has a different result than using just white sugar.

  • @penelopepiper8342
    @penelopepiper8342 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Use more sugar and cut up the chicken , it’s much easier and tastier

    • @HawaiisPickleLady
      @HawaiisPickleLady  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Whole and cut up chicken are totally different. Whole gives you more tenderness and good presentation when cut up. Sugar depends on how sweet you want it to be.
