For those who aren't Asian Chinese. Mr lau's recipes are very authentic and for someone like me that is in his 50's and "Cantonese" his recipes are very much like how we ate it at "home". The techniques are similar as well! ❤ So know you are making it just like many Chinese families or Asian food foodies authentically cook it.😊
I’m Chinese and lives in Hong Kong. I also cook but I really like to recommend Mr. Lau’s cooking. It’s authentic with clear instructions without all the Cheffy stuff. It’s how we cook at home. Cheers Mr. Lau. I watch and appreciate your videos.
Dear Chef Lau, I've watched a few of your videos and really appreciate your very clear instructions. I don't speak Chinese but with the subtitles and your very clear steps, it seems I can do it myself! I'm even learning a few words of Chinese along the way. Thank you!
Thank you so much for this recipe. My mother used to make this at home when we were young but I lost the instructions for cooking it so I'm glad Daddy Lau shared it with us. Also, your children are absolutely adorable!
OMG. I have been wanting to know how to make soy sauce drumsticks for a while now and just haven't come across a simple enough recipe for lazy people. LOL. So, here comes Daddy Lau to the rescue. It looks delish and I will give it a try. Thank you, Daddy Lau. And your grandkids are so cute and adorable!
My grandma used to make this all the time when I was younger. Can't wait to try this recipe out myself! Thank you for all you guys do! Always great content from this channel.
Really appreciate the time and dedication that's gone into this entire channel. Wishing daddy Lau a long healthy life, I have learned so so much for him and every single recipe I've tried has turned out so dang good.
You should do a video about dehydrating the mandarin orange peels! I would definitely like to watch that video. I have a dehydrator, and I am going to try it soon.
in my family we just chuck it in a mesh bag and leave it to hang dry until it's desiccated to the level you see here. it then goes into a container for storage
Well also just a lot of the younger folks (read, me LOL) don't really have time to spare for prepping a whole chicken when we also gotta juggle homework, studying, exams, and even work. Something relatively simple and easy with low prep like this that can get us 80-90% of the way to the full chicken recipe is perfect.
I just made this chicken, and it's rly good. Flavourful, and tender meat. I used green lemon zest , and added a little bit rice vinegree, bcuz it was not bright enough for me. Maybe bcuz i couldn't find Shaoxing rice wine, so i used Mirin instead.
My first time making this was about 2 weeks ago. I woke up reminiscing about a particular flavor I had during my childhood and it so happened to be this one. I'm pretty sure my mom made a dish like this when I was younger. So, I made this and to my surprise it was delicious 😍🤩 I hope it's ok, but I added potatoes and sliced onions 😌 this is currently a household favorite now thanks to your dad 🥰 I have added this as one of the dishes to make for my family 💗
my parents used to make this and I got scared when they said they had to use almost a whole bottle...but since i'm only making for myself, this recipe is a lot better for me and it doesn't need that much soy sauce can't wait to try it!
I am more lazy in the past in Australia cooking Soy sauce drumsticks for my housemate: using the all purpose marinade/Chicken marinade from Lee KUM KEE instead of mix the two soy-sauce and spices 😅
Thank you all very much for always sharing your beautiful recipes !! Looks sooo delicious !! Bon Appetit 😋 Greetings from California … I wish you all good health , success and happiness !! Much Love ✌️😎💕
Really delicious. This drumstick recipe is so good. Was craving it again and used chicken thighs - should have cut off most of the fat (wasn't thinking ahead). the rich fatty sauce would be good to braise tofu later on though when i run out of the rest of my chicken.
Thanks for sharing, how about various kinds of Curry dishes especially Chicken dishes, please?? Curry is Tasty and Healthy, a favorite among Southeast Asians!
Thank youfor sharing your recipes Chef Lau. I made this last night and my family loves it. Can you please show us how to make the perfect crab fried rice and easy peking duck recipe. I hope you will grant my request soon. Thank you very much❤❤
Hello Lau family! I would love to see your dad's take on pepper steak! I'm addicted to his Mongolian beef. I know the 2 are different, one more umami than sweet. I consider Uncle the authority on food tube 😂
This will replace the recipe I was using. It uses way less soy sauce and taste like the soy sauce chicken I ate at my aunt's house as a child. THANK YOU!!!
I do very similar, but don't simmer the chicken. I season and cook in a broiler pan until done. Anything left in the pan goes to make stock for a future dish. As are all the saved bones.
So what im gathering from his comment about "we're skipping sichuan peppers, cinnamon and star anise" is that there was an invitation to add those if you want them at that point, because I do!
I just tried this recipe… OMG I can’t believe I can make shi you shiyougaibei so delicious😱😱😱😱 thanks for the amazing recipe and cooking technique!!!!!!
Can you give us the list of extra spices that Daddy Lau mentioned? Is it just Szechuan peppercorn, star anise, and cinnamon or is it more? I would like to throw in the extra spices!

We use drumettes and chicken wings. The collagen from the wing leeches out a bit. We love the sauce over rice. It’s fatty, rich and umami.
Ditto, we love that too!

I love the way your Papa teaches us to cook. Your little boy and your family makes it better! THANK YOU! Marty in New Jersey.

You should consider dubbing what your dad says for those who are vision impaired. I love your show and his cooking!

4:34 Mr. Lau is basically saying y’all lazy so here is a slimmed down version 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

😂 I’m not young but I was too lazy to make the full soya chicken yesterday so I’m glad he’s got a lazy version

So you marinate with Lee kum Kee sauce before cooking? If yes, for how long?
This man a legend already 👏👏👏

Would you guys consider making a video on a recipe for rad na? I know thats more of a thai dish but would love to see how its done
I do very similar, but don't simmer the chicken. I season and cook in a broiler pan until done. Anything left in the pan goes to make stock for a future dish. As are all the saved bones.

Can you show us how to cook lion head meatball dish?
Knife skills, outstanding suggestion, watching TH-cam videos where people don’t have any control of their knives stresses me out!

Did anyone notice they both took a sip from the spoon and he dipped it back in the pan? lol
Omg I want some !! 😲😲
Can we see his recipe for crab Rangoon
What kind of fruit peel your dad saves
Clementine or others fruit peels.
Thank you
Michael in Canada
Clementine, mandarin, satsumas are fine stick them on top of a radiator 😅 that’s what my mum does
氽水唔系冻水落嘅?
Is there a difference between mandarin and tangerine peel? I notice some recipes call for tangerine peel. Tq.
You can actually keep the sauce in the freezer and it won’t go bad
curious why throw out that water after blanching the chicken? doesnt it make a good starter for broth?
Twas to clean it
Is it Toi Shan 台山 accent that Maestro speaks?
在下祖藉台山,非常感謝您的支持!老劉㊗️您同家人健康快樂!
I cook using only dark soya sauce, garlic and rock sugar
2:10 Typical Chinese parents will never say good. Just okay 🤣
Well translated
I miss being able to buy C&H sugar back home in Cali. I use to buy on Amazon but now it’s so expensive. I have to use Dominion and I do not like it.
What does the Mandrin peels do to the recipe?
I assume it’ll function similar to adding zest - steeping the peels will give the final product a slight sweet fruity tang
That makes sense. Thank you
could he have added the water from the mandarin peels?
guess i'll wait 20 years since i don't got 20 years aged orange peels to make this dish.
I assume you'd serve this with white rice and some steamed vegetables. 🍚🥗
Everything is served with white rice, but Chinese don't do steamed veggies.
First time I have seen someone add salt to soy sauce
Salt and soy sauce are staple condiments in Chinese cuisine. They compliment each other. I highly recommend you to try. 😊
Sacaron los subtítulos en español 😢
