  • Have you ever found yourself resting in Christ, only to suddenly lose that peace? What can rob you of your rest in Christ? Today's podcast addresses this very issue. We will explore the pitfalls that either trap us, preventing us from finding rest, or trip us up once we are at rest, causing anxiety, pain, and suffering. These pitfalls can undermine the very hope we have in the sufficiency of Christ. Join Justin and Jon as they walk through three different areas of life that cause us to lose our rest in Christ. We pray this is encouraging to you.

Thanks gentlemen, You've helped me have an aha! moment. John mentioned the psychological phenomenon of projection where we take stuff that's going on in ourselves and put it on others, in this case God. Justin doved tailed into this by pointing out that we often see God as loving us but all the while viewing us with 'low grade frustration'. I then have to ask myself this question, it appears that in my own life that I in fact operate on a low grade frustration level in most of my most important relationships. This comes out as a basic posture of impatience, irritation, lack of attentiveness, theological rigidity etc, etc. If this is my existential experience is it any wonder that I have projected this relational dysfunction onto God. How I see God is often simply a projection of my own fleshly inclinations, not according to who He actually is and this is most evidently demonstrated in my sinful attitudes and disposition towards others. Ultimately, this comes at a personal cost for in the end this will result not only in wrong views of God and others but also myself. What goes around comes around.
No wonder I can't be at rest.
8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord.
9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah 55:8-9 ESV

At the end of the podcast you address doubts during a time of
drought right after Gods blessing and promise of blessings. Is that not common? A time of testing a time to trust and believe in the promise of God despite our circumstances. God is teaching His children to trust in his love.

When you guys go off on the conservative dogmatic brothers and sisters and put the things that they would regard as important beliefs, beliefs that are not necessarily primary in your view or understanding but because of primary principles they are elevated from mater of conscious to taking a stand for Christ. Matters of gender, life in the womb even political parties that represent policy that are definitely more evil to the point that should be called out and avoid.
Christian Love is willing to stand for the will of God and trust that it will cost you! It’s the little things that you speak of that slowly have brought us here. A slow drift to redefining the Church.
The label anti law maybe because of where your view and position lead to. The leftward drift.

I think the main issue is preaching against these evils to the world who don't even know Christ. It is futile to speak against these things to a lost world. They need the Gospel. Without Christ, they will never hear.

@@graftme3168 Although the world does not have eyes to see or ears to hear we know that culture is still shaped by Christ and His followers. We see that we are losing Christian culture in the west, we need to understand why? Today the Gospel is at everyone’s fingertips, as close as your cell phone. It is not that the Gospel is unavailable to the world but that the Church witness, Her light is dimmed and Her saltness has lost its taste. If we the believers don’t see the Loveliness of Christ-and His Gospel and are afraid to be silenced or seen as unloving according to the world’s standards, it is not a failure of the Gospel power to save, but our witness, the witness of those who claim to be transformed.

@@davidelgeti517 A large portion of your question is that we in the church have lost the gospel ourselves. We preach a Christianity that is all performance and relegates the cross to a vanity. It's a Christless, powerless gospel that is now the norm.

@@medic4christ777 when we enter into the question what is the Gospel? We all have our journeys that affect the way in which we will describe or give directions to another. The destination is Christ but our starting points are different and with many a wrong turn we can sound like we are giving bad direction at times or preaching a different Gospel. We often hear of a road with two ditches, depending on what ditch we finally come out of, will put an emphasis on Grace if the ditch was about works and performance. Maybe the other ditch was a Christ of our own making, a Christ that was all loving and never expected us to amount to much because after all we are human.
When we are finally truly captured by the Gospel of Christ we begin to see that all our experiences and feeling veiled the Gospel somewhat. But with the help of the Spirit, the Word applied to our Hearts, we begin to see the road, Christ more clearly. Not only do we see but we soon find more than we could have ever imagined, we find that what was once a method or a good gift is now a growing love for Christ that affects everything we think or do! We believe! We have Faith! We know it and at the same time we ask why me?

@@davidelgeti517 And yet, we live in a time where we need a new reformation. As many of the brethren are moving right back to Rome with their theology. Many even converting to Catholicism. Others teaching the gospel of Rome, but in ignorance of doing so. Others, looking at Rome as a harmless distinction of denominations because we fail to see the problem. The gospel is in shambles in modern Christianity. The cross is not the be all-end all of the Christian faith anymore. We have relegated it to a vanity. Christ has become a King to obey in an effort to save oneself, and no longer the Savior. We have stopped trusting in His blood, and instead look to our obedience.

Calvinism/Reformed Theology robs too many of their joy n Christ. "Wait, only a certain pre-chosen few will be irresistibly regenerated/saved?? Am, am I one of those? How can I be sure?"

Goodness why is this so hard for you to understand. You were only "able "to see the truth of the gospel because God supernaturally gave you the gift of faith. Naturally "after' receiving this gift [the miracle of mercy and grace to you] you turned to Christ. "Before receiving the free gift" you were spiritually dead in your trespasses and sins. It was God who awakened you by the Spirit through the message of the gospel---in other words your time came from the predestined work of God before the foundation of the world. Just like Judas' time came to betray Jesus--all this was decreed by God in eternity past. God chose all of the following before creation: the creation, Noah, the flood, Israel, Abraham, Joseph, Moses, all the Prophets and all that transpired in the OT. Jesus chose the 12, and so very obviously Paul [old Paul certainly didn't make a free will decision before God got ahold of him] and the bible clearly teaches that "no one" ever chose God first. God is going to "chose when" to take away the Holy Spirit and "when" the anti-Christ will come on the scene etc. Every second of every day has been predestined by our Sovereign God. Please try to understand that the God who spoke the universe into existence certainly didn't involve a man in His decision process and He certainly will now allow a spiritually dead man anywhere close to the salvation process. Please read John 8:43,47---John 1:13--1Cor 2:14--John 6:44---Romans 3:10-18---and on and on and on.
