    For all the comments shaming the coach/parents/directors for either making or allowing her to run, here is this. As an athlete, and a seriously determined person, I wouldn’t have allowed them to keep me from running, especially if I made state. I have lateral patellar maltraction in my knees and it is very painful to run, but I am a runner down to my soul, and nothing could keep me from running.

    stop freaking out clearly y'all do not get it when you are an athlete and you are so so passionate about a sport and as a parent you see how much your child loves the sport it is not as easy as nope don't run

    • @carolinepowell3297

      I agree! I had to give up running state a few seasons ago because of an injury. It was a big deal for me, since that was my first year of being #1 on my team (my team wasn't that good so I'm not super fast) but it was such a hard decision for me. Its not a simple as "just don't run" because at the same time you feel like you're letting your team down. I've ran a few races that I probably shouldn't have because of that.

      Agreed.
      The best miler and the best 800 runner my school had were both seniors the year we won state. Best team we had in 22 years. Neither of them ran before Regionals that year, and neither of them ran during track season. We wouldn't have won without them. Two races, and only two races, while injured.
      This is the norm in this sport.

    • @robertbell387

      Very true. Also, being one of those athletes, I can tell you that even if my coach would of told me to not run, i still would of. I ran with a stress fracture in college only to end up breaking my tibia. It was just one of those lessons you have to learn on your own.

    I used to be the best runner in my county for cross country for my age group in school for a couple of years. On the side, I've always been doing swimming as a way to compete and keep my body in shape. But around 2 years ago my coach left and I completely lost my position as top 5, then top 10. Now it's been worse and I bunch if my teammates have quit, gotten injuries, and whatever sports we do, we physically have gotten worse. It really shows how your environment can affect you whether it be by a person or an injury to yourself.

    Damn I wish my injury was recoverable... Freshman year track had acute hip pain first invitational of the season, felt better after a week of rest but pain started up again as I kept running. Whole time coach believes the injury is "all in my head", so he tells me to just run through it. Turns out I had a torn labrum, hip impingement, and mild articular cartilage damage which I finally got surgery for a year after the initial injury. Hip never felt the same after, definitely don't regret having the surgery but unfortunately the articular cartilage just doesn't heal. Now coming into track senior year still can't run even a couple miles without my hip flaring up. I can feel the pain when I walk and I just have to accept that I'll probably have to get a hip replacement in my 30s-40s.

    • @alexandrab7215

      I get the feeling. After a very successful xc and Indoor season, during my freshman track season my legs started feeling pain with any exertion. A lot of the time it felt like I was walking through a pit of fire. Finally after 6 months and endless doctors I was diagnosed with compartment syndrome. I got surgery too but my legs have never been the same. I went from 19 minute 5k’s to 28 minute 5k’s. I can still do nothing and the doctors don’t get it because they said I should have recovered. Going into my junior year with my legs flaring up after walking up a flight of stairs.

      Hayden Setty he was being sarcastic, this girl was on her way to a very successful senior year and things were looking very bright for her collegiate career but all of that came crashing down because instead of letting her injury heal, her parents and coach didn’t hold her back and let her run at states when she was in so much pain after regionals she could barely walk. And now she hasn’t been able to compete at all at the collegiate level due to the same recurring injury, hope that team state title was worth her career.

    • @IRex-wm9pd
      @IRex-wm9pd 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@nohands6865 stop acting like this one run destroyed her career. she ran in college. I mean just a few months after this happened she was the Virginia state champion in the 3200! the hip tendinitis was simply a symptom of the more insidious issue of femoral stress fractures that really began to plague her post high school. and thats a slow burn injury that develops over time from training and form and diet and genetic issues. it was going to happen whether she ran in this race or not. it wasnt CAUSED by this race. in the end she got a state title, got a full ride at her dream school where she has excelled academically and now is looking at a great career in journalism. Why go out of your way to act as if her life is a failure?

    • @nohands6865
      @nohands6865 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@IRex-wm9pd I never said her life was a failure, I simply stated that after this race she was never able to have a full healthy season. She missed out on footlocker her senior year due to it, and while she still won states in the 3200 she was still running through injuries which culminated in her early retirement from competitive running. Libby is a great girl and I have no doubt in my mind she will excel in whatever field she decides to pursue but it simply bothered me that her parents and her coach saw that she was seriously injured and decided to let her run anyways at regionals and state.
      P.S. E.C. Glass would have still won states that year without her

    I run Cross Country and I have had hip injuries similar to this and I’ve ran every race, The haters that do not run at all need to put theirselves in our shoes. When your one of the best runners on a HIGHSCHOOL Cross Country team you dedicate 100% of yourself to it! Your team counts on you to help win it! Yeah it risked her health! But I think it’s an inspiring story!! She is very dedicated and should be awarded for the hard work and all of the toughness at practice to achieve this! Now a message to haters YOU PUT YOURSELF IN HER SHOES! LIKE I BET U SIT AROUND ALL DAY WATCHING VIDEOS AND JUDGING THEM BECAUSE YOU ARE NOT AS GOOD!

Took me another four years to get back to zero because my case was my body breaking down due to ED. I hope girls be careful with their body image and diet.

    Damn I’m just getting back from a torn ligament in my hip and it sucked. im going into 8th grade and my last cross country season was amazing, I was running in the 11’s for 2 miles so this was supposed to be a great season but idk how it’s gonna end up. It’s almost halfway through the season and I’m clear to run so wish me luck.

    as an athlete I know how it feels when you finish something you wanted, she wanted it so bad I mean it was her decision, what if she didn’t run maybe she’d feel like she let her team down or the goal she set. You have to see it from a different view !!!

    that’s not tendinitis that sounds like hip labrum tear without an MRI it’s impossible to tell x-rays can’t see that so she probably has a more serious issue that won’t heal with resting and taking a break

    I'm just gonna say +1 to all the folks who remarked on how this is the way runners (and athletes in general) are. But runners are kind of an unusual breed. If you aren't a runner, it can be hard to understand how much you JUST.HAVE.TO.RUN. and how close your bonds are to the people you train with.

    For people bashing her coaches and parents for letting her run, I don't think you have any idea what it's like to fight through a whole season or multiple seasons to make a name for yourself. and then having to drop out right when it's getting intense and really fun. I just ran my state cross country meet with an messed up leg. I wasn't going to let anyone stop me from running

    to all the people saying she should have ran. We a love the sport we do but if you're injured you shouldn't do it simple as that. Another muscle could over compensate and then you have 2 problems or the injury you currently have could take 6 months to heal it's not worth the risk..

I had Xrays done, physical therapy I been having rest days. I eat healthy. I just dont know. I've been struggling so much. Like working out, running is everything to me. I don't know what to do.
