I am an extreme minimalist, but this not why at 62 years of age I have never worn makeup. It just simply has not dawned on me that I need to "make up a face" when the one I have is imperfectly beautiful.
I am graduating as an aircraft mechanic soon, I work in aviation outdoors, and I like to go on adventures outside of work. Makeup just isn't a priority for me anymore because I get messy and i love my natural beauty. I quit dying my hair, switched to natural / sustainable hygiene products. I feel more beautiful now than I did in my early twenties.
When I was in my late teens/early 20s, I wouldn’t leave the house without makeup on. I felt like I wasn’t “pretty enough” without it on. But...I hated wearing it. I hated that my mascara would smudge, that I couldn’t rub my eyes, etc. Over time, I began to love myself just as I am, and stopped wearing it. I saved so much time and money. The hardest part was the transition. For a while, my skin looked terrible as it was adjusting, and that was difficult to get through. But now, without makeup, my skin feels and looks better.
Thank you so much for posting this! I tend to agree that everyone is beautiful no matter what they choose to do (makeup or no makeup). But it’s hard to apply that grace to myself! I’ve always pressured myself to wear it, but now that I’m pregnant and would rather not expose my twins to some of the ingredients, I’m finding it’s a real struggle to go bare-faced because now my flaws are all out there. I can’t hide behind anything now, but it’s also liberating! Thank you for being a beautiful and encouraging example! It’s refreshing to see your confidence and appreciation for your natural self and it keeps me motivated to stick to this change!
I have the same mindset! I’m very androgynous presenting and have naturally strong features but struggle with problem skin. Makeup is expensive, often unsustainable and it’s difficult to find cruelty free / eco friendly products. Imperfection is beautiful, as it’s what makes us individual and human. 🧡🌿
Keep doing what your doing! It provides sooooo much encouragement to those of us who are itching to take that step to freedom and let go of the burdens our society has put on us as women. It is a slow process for me.. But I recently got rid of my mascara with no intention of buying it ever again. I find so much positive reinforcement by watching your videos to just go live my own intentional life. So thank you. 😁😊
I do not constantly wear makeup and when I do I usually go for natural looks (I like to put in some more for parties or evenings out, which happen quite rarely...). That is because I enjoy makeup to some extent. So, I think the only relevant question we have to ask ourselves about makeup is this: do I like/enjoy wearing it? Because as long as we do it just please others or to achieve a standard of perfection, we will never be satisfied. Makeup should be something that we ourselves enjoy, not an obligation towards our society =))
Totally agree with what you said. For me personally, another aspect of this is being a positive rolemodel for my daughter. I want her to grow up seeing that women don't need make up to look pretty, nor that it is even that important to look pretty at all :) i want her to feel confident in her own skin and love herself and i think one part of achieving this is showing that I as her mother feel the same way about myself. I stopped wearing makeup around the age of 22 when i started working from home and started to feel comfortable with it (before that i wore makeup everyday, though it was moderate). I had my daughter at 23... i never looked back. I LOVE life without makeup!
My mother was like you and I never saw my flaws until I became a certain age and people pointed it out that I gained weight, or I had acne, etc... good job mom! All the women I know who had shallow mother’s have huge insecurity issues
I stopped wear make up five years ago, I remeber that was impossible to me no wear, because I was so insecure about myself that I didn't let anyone to see me without make up, and this action a long time didn't improve my self esteem, I still dont like some all that things in my face, but now I can accept them without feeling bad or ashamed to have them
I work in dusty warehouse so I put foundation to protect my skin twice per week (its really helps) but I do not have problem to go out without make up. :D
As ever, it‘s an individual choice and there is a huge spectrum of „makeup“. In my view, makeup should enhance and is not there to hide anything. I have never worn a lot despite having suffered with bad skin most of my life since I was 13, so over 40 years, and therefore almost never foundation. But I do feel that a little mascara or a touch of eyeliner gives my eyes some sparkle and a touch of colour on my lips gives me a fresh look, especially as I get older. The imperfections of my skin, teeth, thinner and grey hair or wrinkles don‘t worry me at all.
You are absolutely right! Makeup is a personal pfreferece and everybody should handle it the way they feel best with it. Maybe one day I choose to wear makeup for similar reasons ☺️
I go back and forth with makeup, I sometimes feel like I don’t need it and then somedays I can’t even look at myself without it lol. But I’m definitely working on eventually not wearing it at all. I stopped buying it so when I run out I won’t replace it
I haven't worn makeup in a few years. I also wouldn't say I'm always 100% confident (no one is). If there's a day where my face or my hair doesn't look so good, yeah I would rather not have that problem but I don't beat myself up over it (which has taken a long time to actually do). I also try not to see it as a problem. I remind myself that no one looks perfect 100% of the time. And that I actually don't want to look perfect 100% of the time. I'm human and that's part of being human. I don't have these crazy expectations of myself to look a certain way. I've resigned the idea that if i only did this or that I would be perfect. I now think well this is just the way I look. This is what I was given and I'm okay witht it. I love taking the time to notice and appreciate certain little features and "imperfections" on people and appreciate them. I truly think we are all beautiful just the way we are. I do a lot of people watching and I've never seen a single person that I could not find something beautiful about them.
Hi Lia, I love your videos. Am on a journey learning about minimalism and sustainability, love your view on things its so refreshing. I have always found consumerism very tiring since I was young so find minimalism fits with my values.
I don't wear it either. I use to wear light brown powder 2 do my eyebrows due to the fact that I am a thyroid patient and my eyebrows fall out most of time. But 4 the past 5 months I don't care anymore I'm getting use to seeing my self w. Out the powder on.
This is what I use to consider “lazy” not putting the effort into keeping one’s self looking polished but now I consider this strength and confidence in who you are! I do believe people treat you better if you look good in their eyes “but this is where personality and intelligence comes in even stronger! Just my opinion and I don’t think makeup is bad as long as it’s not a crutch.
I stopped wearing makeup at the age of 14, simply because I didn't want the industry to kind of "own me". I had enough already back then. That's almost 10 years ago, and I have never regretted it. Just imagine how just money I have saved on that statement. Not to mention the environment (I can never imagine that all the stuff found in makeup can be good for mother earth).
Oh yes! the financial and environmental benefits of that decision are quite enormous... And I guess as long as you feel good without makeup that is the perfect way to go!
I usually don't wear makeup either, mainly because I'm lazy and can't be bothered to apply and remove it (and also because my skin is healthier without it). I do like the way it looks on me though, so I enjoy wearing it for special occasions. The mirror thing is so true - the moment I started to feel comfortable in my bare skin despite having acne was when we didn't have a mirror for several weeks after a move.
I have never worn make up too, except to cover my bad skin sometimes when I was a teenager :D I somehow never thought about it, make up just doesn't match to me. Like it doesn't match to a little child (in my opinion) or to a horse. :'D Anyway, I actually don't want to think about it much because it was always a natural thing to not wear make up and I don't want to create fears in my mind that people think negative about me because I don't wear any make up. :)
Unfortunately, it's hardwired into each of us to seek out perfection as a sign of good health to aid in producing healthy offspring. Therefore we modify ourselves to portray perfection. There is no easy answer.
I don't wear makeup cuz i feel uncomfortable wearing them but i do use lip balm or lip tint just to make colour but i really don't like using dark lipstick it's not natural for me but i love looking like a natural witch it's so hard to explain *gosh*
Although I am obsessed with mirrors, I have never liked to wear makeup. because it feels like an inch of mud on my face. I'm 19 now and makeup brands won't need me in the future :)
imo opinion women shouldnt do skincare either, just basic soap. if u have dry skin learn to accept it, acne learn to accept it, dark spots learn to accept it. only people with naturally perfect skin without any outside interference should be able to show it off. learn how to accept that will make u strong and learn to accept that some people dont need anything to beautiful. learn to accept girls learn to accept
Whats with this weird empowerment crap? Nothing wrong or sexist about wearing makeup. Its to put in color to enhance your appearance! I wear makeup sue my ass.
Agreed!! I don't wear makeup either. I think we are all beautiful exactly as we are!
Amen

One of the reasons I like your channel is because of your “real-ness”.
Amen! 👏 Let's get rid of the mirrors! I salute you, Lia, and us all for being brave enough and simply looking the way we look. We are all beautiful 💜

I have never made a habit of wearing makeup, it’s so unnatural to me. You’re beautiful the way you are and your confidence shines through.

Hey🤗 thanks again for video.
hope you like it!
Great video. I do my YT videos without makeup and never wear it. I am thinking of throwing out the remaining bits I have left from a while back now.
This was awesome thanks !!

Huh.. no one is telling you not to wear makeup. You can do whatever you want with your face. She is just saying why she is not wearing makeup.
Are you ok?
