    I don't hate VR but it being basically mandatory on any Sentinel does hurt the class overall imo. That being said, heavily nerfing it means they would need to give Sentinel a lot of compensation elsewhere so it's not necessarily a quick fix.

      nah stop nerfing classes that barely get into A tier. they should BUFF every other skill. fcking rogues are on shotting T4 julra with a single hit 2second clear... with barely any investment. and all of the skills are viable. Necro gets 100k Ward and is the Top ranked class in arena holding the top 10 Places... they need to buff Knight, Buff Shaman, Buff Sorc...

      ​@@nanashiryuu5630necro's 100k ward is bugged. One of the skills gives 40% ward per minion instead of 4%. It will likely get fixed mid cycle

      @@sparkz6381 yes I know it's a bug. And falconer is bugged to shit also. Dive bombs and smoke is one shotting every boss hitting for millions and being completely invulnerable. Necro and rogue are completely broken this season. And the reason they're busted is because the classes skills are bugged and are being abused.

      Dread shade is mandatory on any necro build.
      Reaper form is mandatory on lich.

      @@MangertEternal Shade and Reaper are mandatory for their specialization only (and completely unavailable for any other) because they are a huge part of their identity. VR on the other hand is mandatory for EVERY sentinel, not just Void Knight. And even on VK it doesn't play into the classes identity all that much, because it is a skill that only gets used for the it's damage increase, not because of what the skill itself does.

    I mainly hate it for this reason alone, its so strong and its the only choice for decent global buffs. with out it, it feel awful to build sentinel as you loose so much to the point you feel stupid for not taking it. the idea of the skill is cool going back in time, but along side giving so much power that it becomes a instant pick and you play around it or else it just sad and shit desgin to me, ide rather be given the choice to invenst my power elsewhere but doing so would not yield the reasults i would get from VR because of its strength.

    love how many videos spoke of build diversity with the pallie so i rolled it, and now im switching my build up at 79 and finding this out is a real killer of joy for me and now i dont know what to do and whether to reroll, fantastic

    I do absolutely hate VR, but that’s mostly because one of the very first builds I ever played used vr to gain mana back, and since I was using it all the time, even in mob fights, I kept getting sent two seconds back in time and it was super annoying, so I’ve literally flat out ignored it in every build I’ve made or build guide I’ve followed since. I didn’t realize that you could stack those buffs though. I’ll probably start using it again

      The mana regain can be great if you cast Sigils five times, then VR to get all the mana back for free. I often do that at the start of an echo to make sure my Sigils are up, and at the beginning of boss fights. Obviously that means not taking the big cooldown node that prevents mana recovery, though.
      Outside of that, yeah, using it for mana recovery is horrific!

    Counterpoint: in Last Epoch you can’t farm bosses without having to spend most of your time running from point A to point B (in addition damage on bosses has DR), thus a skill that is mostly useless most of the time can’t be the best skill in the game.

      Counter to your counter: Just learn to count. So your character doesn't move when you use VR. It's not that hard...

    I main Sentinel and I go out of my way in builds to not use it. Doubt this will change on my VK or any other build. Great analysis on the skill though and I do hope they give other talents and Sentinel passives some love.

    I like the skill. It feels good to use it as a dodge and the buffs are really nice, didn't realize you could stack it like that, but makes sense. Will definitely be spamming it in boss fights even more than I already do.

    People say forge guard is a weak class.....forged weapons, buffed with void cleave and then few volatile reversals delete sooooo hard.

    No questions about volatile reversal but I am trying to figure out how to do a 2 handed sword forge guard with summon armor build and honestly I can't figure out what to focus on for it.

    Is it possible for the planner to have it so it shows you how to put the points into the passive tree & skills to help us do it so we get the max potential out of this build. I notice on the last epoch tools page some of the builds show this others like yours does not.

    OMG thank you! I just started playing and everyone recommended this skill but I had no idea why. This helped a ton! I was using it thinking, really? This is lame. Now it makes sense!

    It isnt about pressing the button for me. It is more about the gimick of going backwards 2 seconds. Make a node that changes it into a charge but it has a negstive and im definitely down.

    its a nice skill to get back 5 meters to loot what the mobs behind u dropped, beside that it feels garbage in monos beside when u have a kill mobs around the well objective or a boss, but with cdr and lunge its fine, the scaling seems pretty damn crazy tho i didnt know it stacked

    The problem with VR is that it feels mandatory. HH is the "best" skill in the game. You just bring a pally in your party and you have 40k ward at all times.
    The issue ive always had with the game is how restrictive it feels with 5 skills on your bar. And sure you can usually have one specialized skill off your hotbar since its being procced. But i feel like most builds are 1 button builds and a move skill. Even Diablo and PoE realized that (Wolcen was right) in having a dedicated dash. Especially with so few skill on the bar.

    I really want the banner (javelin battle standard) to be a complete thing. That it doesn't interact with ALL but the subsequent nodes on the tree is very sad, and for a melee you literally don't have enough nodes that you can put your passive points in that make sense.

    They should probably just push it further down the passive tree in void knight so you at least have to have it as your mastery to use it.

    Honestly VR being 90% of the power of the class is why i find sentinel feel horrible to play.
    It basicaly the same as saying that sentinel only has 4 skill slots for no reason.
    Plus it just feels bad to use, having your character zip around like that just feels bad.
    Honestly they should just buff all other skills by like 50-100% and remove the skill from the game.
    Until then i will just treat Sentinel as non existing.

    Without this skill, people would only play the class for RP. For me, I wish paladin could transform to purple (I.e. no longer gold) for all effects if VR is slotted. Because VK isn't an option at all at this point

    So am I dumb or something, or did they fix this interaction? I see barely an increase in damage even while overlapping the buff on bosses, spamming it on cooldown. Am I supposed to move around or something else?

    I'm glad my VK technically doesn't 'need' this skill since I barely have attack speed (void cleave + erasing strike) since i kinda dislike how it moves me back but yeah I see the benefits of having it tho so more power to those who actually can and likes to use VR!

      I think that's good for melee/on hit builds but you don't have enough time rot or skill points if you are a dot build.

    I encourage players who tell me they hate it to really give it another chance as it takes time to adjust to it after years of 'normal' movement skills, but once you get the hang of it is actually quite fun and even stylish to use with some timing and environment awareness. Suddenly it doesnt feel like a kick in the balls anymore, becoming a great tool for both offensive and defensive purposes.
    I agree, stacking buffs/debuffs makes it so powerful that it manages to dissipate choice.
    Time travel skill in a time travel game :D

    I hate VR, but only because of how mandatory it is for every Sentinel build to take. I want to be able to take other more interesting things in my Sentinel builds. Instead I have to take the button that I press every 2 seconds for buffs, and the button that I press 4 times every 15 seconds for buffs, and another button that I press every 12 seconds for buffs. VR is to me the culmination of all of the issues with Sentinel stemming from the older design philosophy of when it was made. The class has 5 strict buff skills, and several more that people treat as strict buff skills, that you basically num lock to get their effects all of the time.

    The only thing I hate about this skill is backtracking. Sometimes I miss-time it and it feels awful. And on bosses it's not that easy sometimes to just stand there for 2seconds so what happens is that I press it too early and either go back into some random AoE attack/on ground dot or whatever.

    Having to go 2 seconds back while sprinting through a monolith, just to actually get the necessary dmg you're capable of getting feels terrible. that and no mana regen during shield rush are my biggest negative feelings about sentinel, and it kills my interest to play it :/

    Should include builds or clips that show how to make VR more feesible. Seems a lot of feesback is their builds hurt using it like warpath resetting and needed fo be reactivated. Maybe if you got a fun build or showing ways it incorporates well into sentinel builds could help swing players to VR.

    Yeah I hate the skill because I have to use it on Paladin, which for me doesn't make sense theme-wise. They should make it Void-Knight only, adjust it, and maybe compensate other trees.

      I mean, just don't use it on anything but bosses and tanky things. Especially if you don't spec into the increased time to the past, I assume you would stand still or orbit the boss for 2 seconds, then you don't even really move.

    i remember i used to play with rebuke a year ago, the buffs would remain for alot longer, now its gutted to trash tier meanwhile they let volatile have this much power? I don´t like skills being mandatory for a whole class with no other skill providing even close to the same level of power, and people like this guy keep making non arguments that to me sound like this "yea mage are op in classic wow but you can just play one if they are that strong..." in what way someone would think this is a valid point. Or even worse "I don´t think you should even play classic wow if you don´t plan to roll mage". Yes you are op we get it but it feels disgusting to use and half of the people who use it dont enjoy doing so.

    people making arguments like this is why poe is a shit game rn. yes, you can use an ability for something other than its intended use, but that results in your build becoming clunky. (perfect example is the new build of the week video on gggs channel; falling zombie sabo. using mine auras to increase damage enemies take from zombies rather than detonating the mines.) you can certainly do this, but the general player base isnt going to and/or dont want to. its clunky, its lame. so making a vid about it is also lame and its like an advertisement. "this is why sentinel is broken", "youre playing sentinel wrong", etc. instead of encouraging players to play the game differently than it was intended, encourage the devs to make things smoother and more fun. if i need to incorporate this mechanic into my sentinel build to push high content, i just wont play sentinel.

    Yeah played all three sent masteries and I used it on all 3. Mainly being that it gives you “more” damage which in the game is the best multiplier bc it multiplies the other multiplier so it a must have on every play style for that reason alone. I since made a falcon to play the meta setup and holy 💩 the sent class is so bad compared to the things the necro, falcon, rune, warlock, even spell blade. Pal is the best the sent has but even still the class can’t push as high as the others i listed. It’s a shame bc i love all the sent masteries, however forge needs to be gutted and reworked entirely is so awful. Buddy has manifest armor necro has a raid boss hitting 4m a tic per second😂

    I only use this cause it's broken I hate using it no skill should be mandatory in any ARPG in my opinion, I would remove the increased damage debuffs and put only buffs to the player .

      You don't need it. Asmongold plays sentinel without knowing it exists. And he's playing through the game. I don't even have it in my play through. I use completely different skills from both of these youtubers. Every build is viable. Just play the way you want to play.

    My necro summoner does 700k damage per crit and has 19k ward. Sorry but volatile reversal is nowhere close to the best skill now considering the other op classes out there.

    Edit: You can never get to 360% with this skill tree alone. See second comment.
    To get the '360%' mentioned in the video, you are not modifying the damage calculation at all, you are just increasing the up-time of the bonus.
    I don't know if it's 'broken' in the sense that those bonuses are no good if the Player Damage is not so high (before application of the 'Takes increased damage' modifier), but it could be one of the 'easiest' ways to boost Global damage on paper.
    Basic example:
    - Set Player Damage as 100 Melee Phys.
    - Player Damage 'seen' by the enemy without the effect of the rift, is 100.
    - After being hit by the two rifts, the Player damage seen by the enemy is now 160
    Now, change the Player Damage to 100 Melee DoT instead of 100 Melee Phys.
    - After being hit by the two rifts, the Player damage seen by the enemy is now 280
    More realistic (pre-endgame) example:
    From gear, passives, idols you have +400 flat damage (Base + Added), +5000% Increased Damage, x35% More Damage, going into a Melee Phys attack:

      i'm confused, but only because i think you're mistaken. Everything in VR stacks. You can indeed get to 360% dmg taken.

      Hi Perry,
      I've tested this again and there is definitely NO 360% multiplier from the combination of the Skill Nodes: 'Harbinger of Dust' and 'Time Rifts' for a DoT skill.
      You can only get 180% More Damage Taken with DoT based builds, or 60% More Damage Taken with Hit based builds, when considering these nodes together.
      On top of that, you MUST have minimum +500% Cool Down Recovery to get the cooldown to 4sec or less, before you can say that this skill gives you the full benefit of 60% More or 180% More (when talking about DPS).
      For mathematical context, consider a build which doesn't use VR at all and assume it has a DPS of 100k.
      - Add the 60% More Multiplier for a Hit build with 'Harbinger of Dust', your DPS becomes [100k x (1+0.6) x 4 sec (VR up-time) + 100k x 20 sec (VR down-time)] / 24 sec = 110k DPS (10% better)
      - Now add the 60% More Multiplier as well as a VR cooldown of 4 sec, your DPS becomes 100k x (1+0.6) = 160k (60% better, as expected).
      You only get the full DPS improvement if the uptime is constant. Without the 4sec CD of VR, you will get:
      - between 10% and 60% increased DPS for a Hit build, or
      - between 30% and 180% for a DoT build.
      The only time the cooldown doesn't matter is if you kill it in less than 4sec, then you get the full benefit.
      Otherwise, it's very misleading to say you can get a 6x damage boost....

    I don't hate Vr but I will admit it did cause me to get bored of sentinel. 2-3 skills predetermined with 2 slot's open to play around with. the builds tend to look the same Imo which led me to delete sentinel and move onto something like primalist which I've enjoyed leveling all three masteries and each sit above level 90-98. I've leveled a spellblade and runemaster also above 76-96. I've been leveling a falconer which has been fun the only rogue spec I find fun currently and have taken past 50, I plan to try necro and lock soon after. anyway all I'm saying is Sentinel is just boring even though Paladin is my favorite mastery, I just didn't find the fun I wanted with the class because of Vr.

    No skill should be forced into every build. As "good" as the skill is, it seriously needs a rework. It removes the need for mana regen, and is used primarily as a damage steroid rather than a survival skill. And who in the world wants to go backwards? It's just a poorly designed skill, especially considering every sentinel has access to it, thus the class is balanced around it.
    The main problem when a skill becomes mandatory (and all classes have this to an extent with traversal skills) is that instead of creating a build with 4 skills +1 traversal. You're now creating a build with 3 skills +1 traversal & +1 VR. By making skills mandatory you end up reducing the amount of cool and unique things you can come up with.

      VR being usable for everyone just makes VK so much less special as well, the theme about is time traveling and echo. Going backwards isn't a problem, idk why so many just don't want to put up that the game isn't just rushing forward...

      If it was made to be useful to go backwards, then that would mean backtracking is prevalent, which is just bad design.

      @@Zombiesbum Arena you don't go anywhere. You circle around or stand in one point. Also let's take this skill, you would use it for applying debuffs/buffs, or dodge enemies attacks, depends by class and build, but going backwards is also dodging enemies, which is pretty important.

    Volatile reverse has no alternative. And this is bad for diversity. It hated simply because players want good effects right now, and not "reverse" trade off. They need aoe debuf from void rift, and make buff exclusive for Void Knight. Otherwise, this skill will be mandatory for any build.
