The Cube represents society, it is chasing every individual who doesn't fit the standards of society. Here V is half blind, IU is deaf and mute. So they are running from oppression of society. The world is controled by these standards of perfection to the point that people in the world put masks on when they don't have make-up or when they feel inssecure or they wear hats when their hair is messy. The MV is a dystopian view of our society. While they are trying to hide in this abondonned place filled with the clothes of people who died because of this oppression, they find a camera that allows them to have an illusion of what their lives could be if they were "normal" by society's standards, it starts with their looks, they could see how they would have looked like, then what they would eat, then they start to feel the illusion a bit too much to the point they beautifully imagine that IU could sing and V could sing as well and she could listen to his voice, they could marry each other and just have fun and eat whatever they want because they wouldn't have to care about society or any other kind of oppression. However, as soon as they feel a little bit of confort and try to live their life, the Cube (society) finds them again and push them to retreat and flee again, but the Cube managed to find them again, they try to survive against it and try to fight it as hard as they can, but they cannot beat a stronger system, they just give up but at least they stayed together until the end. Even if they died at the end, they loved each other deeply, it shows that even if society is oppressive, people can love each other and they can find their soulmate even if they are not "normal or perfect" to the eyes of some many others. The pile of clothes is like from Spring Day, these people died because of injustice, but they deserved love, so the pile of clothes can look very gloomy and sad, but as in Spring Day MV if you don't forget them you can seem them happy and free where they are right now...

V is the king of acting. His acting is so brilliant. Because of him i have seen this mv many time.
The MV is basically about two marginalized people (IU is deaf and Tae is blind in one eye) who are persecuted for loving each other. It's basically a metaphor that "different" people can't love each other. At the end, when IU realizes it's the end (because the cube was going to disintegrate them), she covers Tae's one eye so that this won't be the last glimpse of their life together. If you pay attention, IU squeezes Taehyung's shoulder 3 times while he desperately holds her hand (6:37). 3 squeezes is a common non-verbal sign to convey love to your loved ones. "Three squeezes means I love you''. The camera's filter is as if the world through the lens is all perfect, it's basically their wish. The wish that they could live and love each other without worrying, the wish for a world where you don't have to be "in the box" to be "perfect". It's one of the most beautiful MVs I've ever seen.
It's so sad and beautiful... They put up with each other so well that I need the two of them as a couple again in a very melancholy kdrama. The chemistry was absurd! Well, I guess I hate cubes now!!

At a moment i really forgot that im watching an mv it felt like a scene from a movie and thats bcz of their acting and the natural chemistry between IU and TAEHYUNG, IU she already acted in many dramas but as an army we all know that tae is a great actor too hes been in the historical drama hwarang once as he loves acting anyway it would be more fair for him to be given a main lead character in a drama in the future and im sure of that day will come since he got praised alot for his performance in love wins all from media ,locals ,and specifically directors
It really felt like we were watching a movie!
Such a beautiful and emotional video featuring amazing acting and vocals that makes the experience so personal. I really do hope that Tae & IU do other projects together both film and music as they have great chemistry and when he was on her show their voices also blended so well. Also at the end it was pointed out by someone that he can hear what is coming but she can't, while she can see what is coming but she covers his good eye so he can't. Both cry at the same moment though and from the same left eye. Also the right side of his face seems to have burn scars so maybe he had encountered a cube before but got away at the last minute. This cube was relentless in its pursuit and even seemed to change size so it could come into the building. Earlier when it was flying overhead you could tell no way it could fit inside those hallways. I also noticed the cube waits for them to stop fighting and accept their fate. If you notice there are no other people so obviously no person is able to meet the criteria this cube holds that would allow someone to survive. The camcorder that kept showing a better reality, was giving us the viewer a happier version of the events. They both rise in the air together, their bodies still solid, while the reality is that they have been turned to ash. At the top of the camcorder right before it turns off you see ash particles in the air. I also loved how the clothes landed together on the pile. Again all of this symbolizing that even though they seemingly lost to the cube, it couldn't destroy their love for each other. They stayed together in life and death, so indeed their love did win. I can't get enough of this MV, the acting is Oscar level and combined with the award worthy vocals and lyrics it's both heartbreaking but also heartwarming that at least they went together.
We were so mesmerized by the experience that we barely knew how to react 🤯

IU produced and did the lyrics. her mvs always have deeper meaning. There's a sign when they first come in to the place when they find the camcorder that reads " " RISE FOR ALL" ...think thats a social commentary for the oppressors and for state of world , esp. these days. Most missed that sign..cause IU and V are so captivating. lol IU can't speak and V cant see out one eye... cube is like hate/society projections.Maybe we have to start standing up for love and for others discriminated or oppressed?
I feel IU and V have seen so much of how South Korea media, police and citizens can cause so much hate, pressure and judgement that people start to commit suicides at times. IU has known least 3 close idol young friends that exp this. Also recently, in headlines. Famous Actor from oscar winning movie "parasite" had recently killed himself due to all the pressure of media police, even though he was found negative in his drug tests. IU was main lead actress to him in a different show called. "My Mister". What an amazing message and masterpiece, truly deserves a Award in every category.

I think she is criminally underrated outside of Korea.
IU is a very unique singer and is known as a national treasure in South Korea.
She encountered financial difficulties in her family when she was a child, so she determined to become an "adult" who could support her own life earlier. Because she likes singing, she decided to be a singer. She hoped to connect the hearts between "I and YOU" through music with emotions, so she took the stage name "IU".
Originally, she wanted to be a traditional ballad singer when she debuted, but because too young, she did not gain much attention from the public in that time(when she is only 15).
Later, the entertainment company tried to package her as an idol singer and achieved great success (in the year she was 18). But when she became very popular with the public at the age of 21 with her beautiful appearance and cheerful personality, she decided to regain her original ambition and embark on a completely different path from ordinary Kpop......She remake songs more than 20-years-old, and re-introduced the popular culture of the previous generation to the younger generation, and received a very good response from public.

At face value of the music video alone, basically we got to see a small glimpse of 2 lives, survivors of some dystopic story, in their 11th hour, before they too get snuffed out, their clothes becoming part of the pile of the other nameless & forgotten, of which their stories we never got to see. On a higher level, the MV & song can be interpreted to however you want to, although there have been a dozen different theories on it already, including one theory about aging & another on discrimination. V AMAZING acting out all these emotions of fear happiness sorrow furious, in a 5 minute music video is crazy because we see actors failing to act out a single emotion in an 1 hour long episode but here he is, the versatility is showing 😭They they forgot what they were running from because through the lens of the camera, they were able to just love and enjoy life until the reality caught up to them and they were taken away ICRY 😭😭❤😮😮😮😮

Here's everything you might have missed:
1) IU is deaf/mute and V is blind in one eye. IU uses sign language in the dinner table.
2) The cube (the director said it is called "nemo") represents the society which discriminates against people having disabilities or those who are simply different (often considered as misfits) thus eliminating them. (the pile of clothes: The pile of clothes also reminds you of BTS "Spring day"MV which also features it)
3) The camrecorder shows how the world would have been if the society didn't discriminate against them. They would have get married happily.
4) The scene where they are at the restaurant and the scene where she is on stage singing in her wedding dress, you can see how the people around covered in black are all pointing their fingers at Tae and IU (represents how harshly the world judges them especially in their happy moments)
5) The whole mv was mainly shown from the pov of IU. You can see how she always put herself in the danger first and tries to protect Tae, how tenderly she loved him, her touches were so gentle as she saw his normal eye through the cam. But Tae loved her too. At the end of their life, he puts himself in front and tried to break the box. They both are equally scared but when time comes, they can sacrifice themselves for the other. This is true love.
6) IU taps three times on Tae's shoulder during the scene where he grabs her hand tightly. The three taps translates to "I love you" in sign language.
