As a metalworker for 40 years , let me say you have done a GREAT job explaining to the novice how drills should be cared for. The use of the diagram to explain drill terminology is wonderful and means a lot to people trying to understand the complexity of the way a drill works. Thank you for your insight and keep up the amazing work. I"m in Sydney Australia and you are to be commended. Mind you there are many drills that one could make videos about, such as augers, impact and hole- saws.
swell jig, chief. All them other dudes on YT all compete with the fastest synch-to-the-music editing, but I still watch your videos first whenever they pop out. Honest laid-back value, Texas-style, I mean, no hat all cattle. Keep on trucking ! (from France)
The rest should be tipped back to provide for the relief angle behind the cutting lip. This angle is dependent on the size of the bit. But the jig can also be tipped up to produce relief
Any suggestions on an easy way to flip the drill 180 degrees for grinding the other side? I was thinking of putting a drill stop on the far end then flipping the location of the set screw 180 degrees.
Hi notice you have the drill bit lying flat in the jig and seem to do a great job sharpening. I see some guys on youtube sharpening end to move the bit on and down movement

I do not use wax in any form for any reason in my shop. It is nothing more than a grime attractor. And the thought of putting it on a dry grinding wheel has to be one of the silliest things I have ever heard.

Thanks Emanuel. Your positive comment means a great deal to me. Allan
I went ahead and made one and used it on my 2x72 belt grinder. It worked great for my oversized bits.

Does the angle of the toolrest to the wheel matter? It seems to. Should it be at a right angle to the tangent of the wheel?

You are overthinking. Turn the drill bit over and line the cutting lip parallel to the stone. Done.

Do you twist the bit? Or just slid it when sharpening?
Don't twist the bit while sharpening. Get the cutting edge horizontal and take a bit off, then do the other edge.

Have you ever tried beeswax on the wheel to keep your tool cooler that you are grinding on?
