The studio version was actually recorded onstage at Zellerbach Hall in Berkeley Ca. The building was empty. Just her grand piano with a bouquet of roses. Nothing else. She just sat down and sang.
I agree, when I first heard it, felt it was too short so had to listen again and again and again cause it's a beautiful song that you can't get enough. U wait for it to continue and then it ends so you replay it
Songbird was always the last Fleetwood Mac encore, just Christine and her piano. Mick Fleetwood said it best (I'm paraphrasing from memory), "Chris would walk on stage, do Songbird and break every heart in the place". Truer words were never spoken. I was privileged to see her do it twice, and both times I would swear there wasn't a dry eye in the house. Fly free Songbird.

Chris was a superb singer and songwriter who wrote outstanding numbers like: Don't Stop, Over My Head, Oh Daddy, You Make Loving Fun, Little Lies, Say You Love Me, Songbird and so many others. Underrated, yes. Underappreciated, probably. But not in this corner. RIP Christine Perfect.
Christine had actually retired from music after marrying John McVie. She wanted to settle down and be a housewife. But when Peter Green quit the Mac in the middle of a US tour (1970), they recruited her, and the rest is history.
I was saddened by the news of her passing - I felt she was the underrated gem of FM - loved her piano playing, smoky voice, and beautiful lyrics... She truly was a Songbird! 🕊😭 Please check out her other FM songs "You Make Loving Fun" and "Say You Love Me" and her solo hits "Got A Hold On Me" (MY FAVORITE!!!) & "The Challenge" & "Love Will Show Us How" & "I'm The One" - may she rest in peace... @@lesleygraham5927 Not quite correct. They both briefly attended the Birmingham and Midland Institute of Music, which was not the schools they attended (Christine was at the Moseley School of Art at the time and Steve was at the Great Barr School) and Christine was five years older. This song (not a single) came out in 1977. It’s been a part of my life for almost as long as it’s been out. This passing hits particularly hard. She was such a bright and positive person. Even when Stevie and Lindsey were tearing each other new ones on Rumours, Christine kept things positive. Thanks again for honoring her music. :-)
Same. I was 5 when it came out and my parents played the album nonstop. My father had a huge crush on Chris when I was little! FM was such a huge part of my childhood and adulthood. I feel like I’m losing all the inspirational artists of my life, too soon. :(

I am so saddened by the loss of this genius musician. Amber, you mentioned her piano playing. Christine learned to play at the age of 4 and later became classically trained from the age of 11-14. She then started focusing on rock & roll instead. I cried yesterday when I heard about Christine. Now, watching this today has me crying again. I was so lucky to have seen FM in concert and listen to her sing this beautiful song. Her voice is so beautiful. Her and Stevie's voices compliment each others so perfectly. She was always my fave female singer in Fleetwood Mac, while Stevie got all the glory Christine was the heart of the band. You Make Loving Fun is my fave song of hers, but she had so many besides this one even. Hold Me, and Don't Stop, Oh Daddy are others with her on lead vocals. I'm sure I'm missing a bunch of others. OMG she died? How did I not know that? Tragic. I'm so glad I saw her live with Fleetwood Mac. She was really special.

(((keep smiling))) 🥰
Love Shines and Mystified are a couple more of Chris songs. I haven't been this emotional over an artists passing in a very long time. I grew up listening to her. Love her always. RIP Songbird
Such a Talented Lady
I cried all day! Grew up in the 70's listening to them! Little lies was on rotation constantly in rotation in the 80's! Best song is You make loving fun!
Songbird was always the final encore song performed when Christine was with Fleetwood Mac. I was blessed to get to attend their last reunion concert, and hear this gorgeous number in person. I never thought I would get to hear her sing this song live. Wow! RIP Christine - you ARE and will always be missed!
Mick Fleetwood & John McVie would sit on the drum riser while Ms. Perfect would play this at the shows end too . RIP Christine
This is the song that was sung at my wife's funeral. She loved this song. Christine McVie died just a few days later. This song brings a flood of memories and tears to my eyes every time I hear it. I miss her so very much...
🙋♀️ been listening since 1975. Just this morning my dad told me how much he was influenced by them as a younger adult. Each member brings something exquisite to the table, but Songbird is *all* her - she composed the music, wrote the lyrics, played the piano & sang it. Thanks so much for your tribute to the legendary Christine McVie 🎶🕊️
In respect to her voice, song writing and musicianship, she was well named at birth, for she was born "Christine Perfect". R.I.P. to the author so so many beautiful songs.
Steve Winwood used to carry her books from school, she was his first crush ❤❤❤ RIP Christie.
@@lesleygraham5927 Not quite correct. They both briefly attended the Birmingham and Midland Institute of Music, which was not the schools they attended (Christine was at the Moseley School of Art at the time and Steve was at the Great Barr School) and Christine was five years older. So, not carrying her books home from school, as it was not their schools and they didn't live near each other.
She is an angel now. 😇 RIP Christine McVie. Thx guys. ❤
First person I reached out to when I heard Christine passed was my Mom.
She loves Fleetwood Mac. She loves rock n roll… & that has always been our main bond. Forever grateful for these people’s work as it impacts us in SO many ways.
Just sitting here listening, the tears are pouring down. I've loved them from the beginning!! RIP sweet songbird!!😥😥💜💜🎵🎼🎶🎸🥁🎹🎙🎧
Don't be sorry for your animals they are family and we love you both and your animals. Bring them on the screen some time. You guys are great! Love you both!
Thank you so much. I was so hoping that you would do a tribute to Christine in light of her passing. I was fortunate enough to see her with Fleetwood Mac five or six times and always loved her breathy ethereal vocals. RIP sweet lady and thank you guys again for your thoughtfulness. I think she was great enough to be considered for Female Friday tomorrow as well. She gave us 50+ great years so she is worthy of back to back days.
I am very very sad. I've been listening to Christine since 1974 and it's very sad, a big loss though she was 79. God Bless you Christine
Fly high Songbird. Rest In Peace. One of the most beautiful songs ever written. ❤
What more can we say. Christine Mc. Vie was a beautiful singer, songwriter, pianist and person. She is already and will be into the future, deeply missed.
Thank you ❤️
This was written for John, wasn’t it guys?
One of the most beautiful songs they ever produced. Sweet dreams, Christine. Your heavenly voice is now where it belongs for eternity. ❤️🌟 Thank you for paying tribute to her today, Jay and Amber. Amber, you get it about how these artists like Christine sang to our souls. I appreciate you.
I absolutely love Fleetwood Mac, but I’ve noticed that most of my fav songs are sung by Christine. She may be gone, but we are blessed to still have her here with her music❤
RIP CHRISTINE McVIE!! you will be greatly missed!! condolences to all!!
the 'behind the scenes' stories from this album are incredible - but it did make it one of the greatest albums of all time
This is a loss that really breaks my heart. This lady was absolutely awesome, and one of a kind.
My heart broke when I heard Christine McVie had passed. RIP Songbird. 💔
She is true and pure.
This is her signature song. Stevie Nicks paid her a beautiful tribute!
R.I.P. 😥 but your music keeps you alive in our hearts and minds!
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you RSR and Thanks to infinity to Christine McVie (nee Perfect) for sharing your talent and soul with us over many generations, RIP 😢 . ❤❤❤❤
We are going to be losing all of these wonderful older legends! R.I.P Songbird Queen Christine
My heart will always ache for the lovely Christine. I've been a fan of Fleetwood Mac since I was 16 years old (1977) and I truly love each member of that band.
R.I.P. our beautiful Songbird.
This made me tear up. Can’t believe it’s already six months of her passing. She was a beautiful woman and an immense talent. Thank you Christine for sharing your gifts with us. 🥹
Pure class. A piano, a voice like an angel and you could hear a pin drop. She was absolutely captivating. She allowed the others to take center stage but she was the backbone. SO glad I saw them a few times as more of my generation are passing on. RIP to a beautiful & gentle soul.
Beautiful. One of my favourite songs. I remember the first time I heard Fleetwood Mac - Albatross. That was in Pete Green days. God rest his soul. Another beautiful song. Pete & Christine play with the angels. Xx
Her voice was so beautiful and soothing. In my eyes no one member outshone any other. they were all stars and musical geniuses. Christine is irreplaceable. No one else sounds like her and she wrote great songs
I hope Christine is always remembered for this wonderful song and wouldn't it be great if she was always referred to as 'Songbird'? What a fantastic musical legacy she left to all of us down the years with 'The Mac' and so many brilliant tracks with her band mates. God rest her dear soul.
This song is one to induce tears on its own. But now...
R.I.P. Christine. ✌
Don’t talk to this scammer👆
❤love you Christine rip
I sang this song to my daughters when they were babies. She was such an icon. Love this song so, so much. Thank you for doing this. RIP, Christine McVie 💔
She was unique and lovely. Her voice was pure comfort. I love Fleetwood Mac.
Christine has always been one of my favorites. R.I.P.
One of my favorite Christine led Fleetwood Mac songs is "You Make Lovin Fun", it is a super fun and awesome song. And she sings it so well.
Christine's voice is so soothing and pure. She was such a talent. RIP.
I just cried.
when you look at all the songs she wrote for Fleetwood Mac and listen to them, most people realize how great she was
THANK YOU FOR ACKNOWLEDGING
