R.I.P. Harry Gregg. He was more than a hero. A humble man who didn’t want any fuss or bother over what he did at Munich and a great goalkeeper too. His passing is so sad to hear of.
This man sounds a true hero. Went back to the plane wreckage to save others. What a man. The sort you'd want beside you in the trenches. Farewell Harry.
A true hero, a legend, no statue outside O. T. or a Knighthood for the great man, he never did like the suits as he called them, watching that video of Harry meeting the two ladies whose life he saved at Munich 25years later is so moving, his modesty and the love and gratitude of the ladies is overwhelming, R. I. P. Harry,
Harry has earned his place in history and reminds us how great human kindness can be extended to our fellow earth dwellers. If I can be so bold can I suggest we do the same every chance we get. Rest easy Harry for your work on this earth is done.
The Goalkeeper of my childhood in Manchester, now live in Tasmania and just heard the bad news. He was a true champion, my deepest condolences to his family.
Harry Gregg came to our school 1965/66. We tried to score against him but not one of us scored. Our headmaster Mr mc glynn he was friends with Harry Gregg he was such a nice man great player for United don't know how he bleeped his flat cap on. It was a honour to of meet him .the school was great Moreton hall nr conglton Cheshire. Any old boys out there .John Patrick Rooney
Please to have met him a few times, invited me up to his house a few times, never got round to it. And now it’s too late, devastated. A legend of a player but more importantly a legend of a man
Going back repeatedly into a plane about to explode. No thought for his personal safety, just wanted to help his friends. He didn't want to even think about it afterwards, who would? His goalkeeping and personality reflected that instinct, brave, uncompromising. Wish I had 1% of his bravery and integrity.
He saved us *literally* what a Goalkeeper. Saved other legends like Bobby Charlton. Bobby Charlton wouldn't have became 2nd most goalscorer in Manchester United
I remember seeing Harry playing for United in January 1961 when he got a shoulder injury in the first half and went off, and because there were no substitutes in those days, United were down to 10 men against the best team in the land at the time. However, in the second half, Harry came back on with his arm in a sling or big bandage, and played on the right wing. Towards the end of the game, he got the ball on the goal-line on the edge of the penalty area and back-heeled it to Mark (Pancho) Pearson to head in for the second goal - United winning 2-0. Totally true, R.I.P. Harry.
My football hero I am 76 and sent a autograph book to old trafford in 1958 Harry signed it for me and all the team i still have it to this day precious would be worth a lot of money but i will never sell it.
I AM LUCKY TO HAVE MET THE GREAT MAN.DAVID GILL INTRODUCED ME TO HIM AFTER THE MUNICH SERVICE AT OT.THANKING HIM FOR EVERYTHING HE DID FOR UNITED AND CALLED HIM MR GREGG HE REPLIED PLEASE CALL ME HARRY AND I WILL CALL YOU DAVE. WHAT A HONOUR NEVER WILL I FORGET IT.CHEERS HARRY (MR GREGG)
