Beethoven ( 1770 - 1827 ) considered Handel ( 1685 - 1759 ) to be the greatest composer who had ever lived. Ludwig wrote out the score to Handel's Messiah as he was writing his epic 'Missa Solemnis ( 1823 ). This music is a prime example of Handel's supreme genius!!! Cheers - Mike
the building at the beginning and 2:30 is Los Angeles' Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. See Wiki article. Acronym: COLA ... brings a new warmth to the sterile
It may have been written in honour of a british victory but it was written about Judas Maccabaeus and his fight against the Seleucids. It is basically the story of Hanukah. This song is as important to Jews for Hanukah as is Messiah is to christians for Christmas - both, of course written by Handel, and equally as stirring.
Um ... that "shitty building" is Our Lady of the Angels. It's a huge, modern Catholic cathedral in downtown Los Angeles that was completed nearly 11 years ago. It's located on the corner of Grand and Temple, catty corner from the Los Angeles Music Center.
@vivascargill84: Sure, You are right. Don't mind. Scotland shall rise again! However, Händel(sic! for english readers), is a great composer and "Tochter Zion" is one of his masterpieces.
How charming - I came to this page to listen to some music, not read someone's political opinions. Be careful, you never know when you will come across someone who knows more about history and the background to events than you.

A precise performance. Precisely gutless.
Nice piece of art
This is one piece that I would like to liberate once and for all from the Suzuki program. It just doesn't work without a chorus!

doesn't look much like a cathedral tho
beautiful - very beautiful, but somehow seems too angelic - lacks a certain 'robustness' - maybe too rounded. Just sayin'
