    Maine is the first father figure he's presented with in series. And he's only met with Maine after the loss of his mother.
    The fact that David is raised by a single mother is a contributing factor to his flaws. Doubly so that she dragged him to Night City *and* worked illegal jobs to try and mold him into her dream.

    Where this intersects with the overall themes of the Cyberpunk 2077 universe is pretty amazing. A world like this is stacked steeply against those not already on the top of Night City's food chain. A setting like that eats people who think they're the outlier, the exception to the rule. David Martinez is the prime example of someone who believes in themselves to the utmost. The show promised its audience that David was special, that he can succeed. However, there were enough clues throughout the anime, and especially the video game itself, that he wasn't that special.
    I'd like to think that by the time David matured a bit, he realized his weaknesses. But he was, at that point, already locked into his path. Without the resources or time or wherewithal to determine the best plan of action against his and Lucy's problems, he surrendered to fatalism and chose the path that ultimately, in his mind, was Lucy's best option.

    I liked that they did a lot of echoes and foreshadowing which the game does in early quests too. Like Lucy on top of David as they fall from the Arasaka Tower ( Icarus falling echo too) which was echoing the trolly scene as they exit the ambulance when the two in the tunnel. How first episode is a cyber psycho that David is brain dancing as, Maine also an echo of alternative Lucy and David outcome.

    My argument for it not being David's fault that he didn't go light on cybernetics, is that being that powerful definitely would've made lots of enemies, including Arasaka. If he went light chrome for a while, they would've found out, and he'd be nearly powerless to stop them. He would need help from his friends at least, and Lucy seemed distant at that time. Everyone else would likely die and not help all that much in the battles ahead from the Corps and bounty hunters.

    • @samsonmario2305
      @samsonmario2305 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      This is not really about the cybernetics... This is about his traumas. His brain couldn't deal with both so he snapped like everyone in the game/anime. V is the exception bc he had Johnny to keep him sane or take over the body

  • @alessandrogordillo1998
    @alessandrogordillo1998 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    *WOW*
    You just cemented my perspective that even though Martinez was a tragic character, he was not sympathetic character. It was hard to feel bad for him, since he had all the chances to leave Night City and never look back, and Lucy could've been saved too. But because of the deceit, his arrogance and the overall grunginess of the city, it consumed him, with all the rest of the hapless cyberpunks before him.
    I applaud your use of Biblical Scripture here, man. A fellow believer here seeing how Night City might as well be named "Neo Sodom and Gomorrah", and how it consumed another victim.

    • @expychristian
      @expychristian  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you! I'm happy to help, it was how I felt in reflection of David's character journey as a whole. Great to see a fellow believer! I felt sharing the scriptural connections helped to show how "unoriginal", if you may, David's character arc was and the kind of setting he was in and how it destroys lives, since its happened plenty of times in the past.
      I did just upload a new video with similar connections as well! Hope you enjoy that in the meantime!

    I love the intro and outro! you made an amazing video! We all can understand David's view because of how he is against the wall with the things that happen to him and he is a person who would push through despite everything even with the signs that the consequences. All of the choices made in life is quite importantly something we all think constantly and some maybe rational yes but most of the time we would get overwhelmed by it. If I have to learn from Cyberpunk Edgerunners is that "know your limits of what you will be paying off" we all take risks but there are risks that should be avoided. It's a tradgey done right.

    It was well written and constructed anime, better then a lot that was delivering deconstruction of the special antagonist winning but more antiquity and myth story where some great hero reaches a tragic end.
    I think it needed 2 more episodes though and more Adam Smasher, I also think Rebecca death was a bit unnecessary in the story.

    • @expychristian
      @expychristian  ปีที่แล้ว

      Given that it was a prequel, I expected a lot of death and more villain time, but it still took precious moments to tell its own story, which more than made up for it.
