u can make a strong drug from a few poppies = wait for poppies to die and dry ( turn brown ) then cut 1 inch from pod . cut up pods + the 1 inch of stork into powder and mix with vodka and leave at least 3 months shaking on regular basis and u will have a very strong pain killer . U can all so chop off pods when green - de seed them and boil in water - then remove plant mater from liquid and boil down liquid until u have latex film on bottom of pot with out burning it .there are videos on youtube for both look under opium poppies ect

Russia just allowed production of opium for medical use in their country. The USA should do the same thing. If we get into a war, the United States cannot rely on other nations to supply our medical needs. Germany found this out during World War II. A very hard lesson. Gotta love how a plant can help with certain issues but because people can find ways to alter something natural that was used for centuries into the most addictive product on the planet is just the ignorance of man. Heroin isn't any worse than morphine in terms of addictiveness, as a former addict, I cannot tell the difference between the two, if I had a bunch of opium and wished to use opiates, I don't think I'd bother with all of the hassle of converting it into heroin, here in the UK, heroin is used in hospitals to treat cancer patients and it is used in childbirth (this is because it is less dangerous to the baby at a useful dose than morphine due to it's decreased potential to depress breathing relative to it's analgesic effects when compared to most other opiates). I mean they are ripping up any fields they find in the middle of a fentanyl crisis in America, that seems absolutely insane to me, you'd think that saving lives would be a priority and that opium, morphine and heroin would be safer than fentanyl, just legalize it, they are a beautiful plant with a multitude of uses: decorative- both the flowers and dried pods, cullinary, medicinal and recreational. To me this would seem to be aimed more at protecting big pharmas profits than drug users. What harm would I be doing by having a small poppy patch in my garden and producing my own medicine, or even using them recreationally, in both cases I am saving myself a fortune and less poverty means less crime, it is OK to be a raging alcoholic but opiates- oh no, only when we prescribe them to you at an extortionate price! With the yields from a small patch, I could have used poppy tea or extracted opium/ morphine and avoided dealing with the black market. You guys could avoid dealing with big pharma and manage your own pain as you see fit- this is EXACTLY what they do not want! Big pharma lobbies hard to avoid this kind of competition, just as the alcohol industry lobbied hard against MDMA in it's early days of popularity, before it was illegal!

They grow all over western washington they were planted at the turn of the cenrury 1900 and are all around small towns. I have grown them for years,you can buy plants and seeds. They call them bread seed poppies but we all know they are the right ones, Mine are potent too!

They grow fine outside opium poppies are mid summer crop when light is longest. as far as how much I would collect the sap then when seeds are mature keep the seed pods they make great tea. This summer mine came and mow have collected seeds. My Mom came up with some nice opium poppies also!
If the poppies where grown if fields and harvest with a combine that loads a bin trailer. Then on to a poppy gin machine that has circular or flat sharp cutting blades to cut the poppy bulbs in halfs and a specialised conveyor belt that hold the bulbs and has two half circle plates that drop away to hold bulbs in place. Then two flat plates that protrude through to keep the bulbs in place while a press with a v and circle shapes turns the halfs of the poppy bulbs and holds them in place while sharp scooper spoons scrape the seeds out and little air jets of compressed air to blow the seeds out the scooper spoons. Then the seeds go onto a conveyor belt that moves the seeds to a dehydrator. Then the bulb halfs on the conveyor belt moves the scraped/deseeded poppy bulbs to bins or a refinery with screens to process the deseeded bulb halfs immediately for the opium for pharmaceuticals/painkillers, and cough syrup. That would be far less labour intensive. It would be like the cotton gin was for cotton! Or the tops taken off and dried later and the seeds collected and from the pods and the plants bailed like hay and processed for pharmaceuticals.
The problem is the opium would leach out as soon as they were cut in half. So , by the time the pods were de-seeded, the pod 'halves' would no longer have any opium left. Opium has to be harvested while attached to the main plant.

Ps, The vast majority of Pods for the pharmaceutical companies come over as 'straw' and made into a tea as they are shipped.
They do something like that already but it is EASIER to just Harvest the ENTIRE PLANT, then dry it, separating the stem and pod, and the roots. THE ROOTS contain THEBAINE the alkaloid used to make Oxycodone and Hydrocodone. FYI, Iran has the type of opium Poppy that has the highest quantity of THEBAINE. MORPHINE, CODEINE and other alkaloids come from the Poppy pod and the stem. This product, once dried, is called POPPY STRAW. That is what we use to make medicinal drugs from. Slicing the pods is not done anymore in commercial production. The dried pods are split and the seeds just fall out. Boiling the seeds in water gives you Poppy seed oil, The seeds are good on baked goods. The newly picked fresh leaves are fantastic in a salad, too. They look and taste like LEAF LETTUCE Or ROMAINE LETTUCE. The ENTIRE PLANT IS GOOD AND USEFUL.

Yeah man, go but some dr earth fertilizer and go dig up some good dirt near a Forrest, fill 5 gallon Home Depot buckets with dirt mixed with two handfuls of that fertilizer. Toss a handful of seeds into there but not too many and water it ever few days. Don’t over water it. And buy a lot of red lights to make them grow faster.

I grow a healthy amount of them every year, bleed them, then make tincture with the finished heads after I’m finished bleeding them and collecting the latex/cytoplasm. . No need in begging the doctor for pain medicine and jumping through hoops for them. Just grow your own. It’s quite potent stuff. I don’t abuse it but I do use it often. Be careful because yea it is addictive. I mix them among other types of flowers to conceal them a bit. 😉

@@Shimco Want to be clear I do not condone scoring pods for sap. We enjoy the flowers in the garden and she makes an AMZING Lemon Poppy Zucchini bread which goes good with tea for 2. We harvest the seeds after the pods dry and rattle in the pod. We have Japanese Beetles visit every year , so our pods are peppered with "tar" spots.
It is really interesting how growing opium poppies in the UK is completely legal. Just harvesting them isn't. There is a family in a house nearby that harvests them I've seen them do it but never been caught. The company that bought monsanto and marketed heroin as a non addicting alternative to morphine even tho 80+% of heroin is metabolized into morphine.

It's what we as humans have done through altering the plants extract that has created the monsters known as Heroin and morphine, leading to everything from pills to fentanyl, and methadone, leading to a world of addicts. If we could just use what we have, how it was intended, we wouldn't even need pharmaceuticals. Theres so much we can learn from the Native Americans, Mayans, Ancient Asians, Egyptians, and middle Eastern cultures about herbal medicine that we need to go back and learn the land again.

Heroin isn't any worse than morphine in terms of addictiveness, as a former addict, I cannot tell the difference between the two, if I had a bunch of opium and wished to use opiates, I don't think I'd bother with all of the hassle of converting it into heroin, here in the UK, heroin is used in hospitals to treat cancer patients and it is used in childbirth (this is because it is less dangerous to the baby at a useful dose than morphine due to it's decreased potential to depress breathing relative to it's analgesic effects when compared to most other opiates). I mean they are ripping up any fields they find in the middle of a fentanyl crisis in America, that seems absolutely insane to me, you'd think that saving lives would be a priority and that opium, morphine and heroin would be safer than fentanyl, just legalize it, they are a beautiful plant with a multitude of uses: decorative- both the flowers and dried pods, cullinary, medicinal and recreational. To me this would seem to be aimed more at protecting big pharmas profits than drug users. What harm would I be doing by having a small poppy patch in my garden and producing my own medicine, or even using them recreationally, in both cases I am saving myself a fortune and less poverty means less crime, it is OK to be a raging alcoholic but opiates- oh no, only when we prescribe them to you at an extortionate price! With the yields from a small patch, I could have used poppy tea or extracted opium/ morphine and avoided dealing with the black market. You guys could avoid dealing with big pharma and manage your own pain as you see fit- this is EXACTLY what they do not want! Big pharma lobbies hard to avoid this kind of competition, just as the alcohol industry lobbied hard against MDMA in it's early days of popularity, before it was illegal!

They grow fine outside opium poppies are mid summer crop when light is longest. as far as how much I would collect the sap then when seeds are mature keep the seed pods they make great tea. This summer mine came and mow have collected seeds. My Mom came up with some nice opium poppies also!

If the poppies where grown if fields and harvest with a combine that loads a bin trailer. Then on to a poppy gin machine that has circular or flat sharp cutting blades to cut the poppy bulbs in halfs and a specialised conveyor belt that hold the bulbs and has two half circle plates that drop away to hold bulbs in place. Then two flat plates that protrude through to keep the bulbs in place while a press with a v and circle shapes turns the halfs of the poppy bulbs and holds them in place while sharp scooper spoons scrape the seeds out and little air jets of compressed air to blow the seeds out the scooper spoons. Then the seeds go onto a conveyor belt that moves the seeds to a dehydrator. Then the bulb halfs on the conveyor belt moves the scraped/deseeded poppy bulbs to bins or a refinery with screens to process the deseeded bulb halfs immediately for the opium for pharmaceuticals/painkillers, and cough syrup. That would be far less labour intensive. It would be like the cotton gin was for cotton! Or the tops taken off and dried later and the seeds collected and from the pods and the plants bailed like hay and processed for pharmaceuticals.
The problem is the opium would leach out as soon as they were cut in half. So , by the time the pods were de-seeded, the pod 'halves' would no longer have any opium left. Opium has to be harvested while attached to the main plant.

They do something like that already but it is EASIER to just Harvest the ENTIRE PLANT, then dry it, separating the stem and pod,
and the roots. THE ROOTS contain THEBAINE the alkaloid used to make Oxycodone and Hydrocodone. FYI, Iran has the type of opium Poppy that has the highest quantity of THEBAINE. MORPHINE, CODEINE and other alkaloids come from the Poppy pod and the stem. This product, once dried, is called POPPY STRAW. That is what we use to make medicinal drugs from. Slicing the pods is not done anymore in commercial production. The dried pods are split and the seeds just fall out. Boiling the seeds in water gives you Poppy seed oil, The seeds are good on baked goods.
The newly picked fresh leaves are fantastic in a salad, too. They look and taste like LEAF LETTUCE Or ROMAINE LETTUCE.
The ENTIRE PLANT IS GOOD AND USEFUL.

They were allotted a space close to the house under a window overlooking his huge backyard garden.....they used to sell seeds from flowers continually grown & harvested since the first plants were grown before his death in 1824 at the Monticello gift/bookstore .....untill the DEA ordered them to stop!

A good percentage of so called Western countries its only illegal to process Poppy plants also Afghan Heroin is diverted to mostly European peoples Russians & Chinese (Yep suprised) the USA gets less than 10% of north Asian smack most in US comes from Central & South Americas eg. Yeah man, go but some dr earth fertilizer and go dig up some good dirt near a Forrest, fill 5 gallon Home Depot buckets with dirt mixed with two handfuls of that fertilizer. Toss a handful of seeds into there but not too many and water it ever few days. Don’t over water it. And buy a lot of red lights to make them grow faster.
If you put too many seeds in one bucket, the plants will end up being smaller so you only want like 3-5 plants per bucket

I grow a healthy amount of them every year, bleed them, then make tincture with the finished heads after I’m finished bleeding them and collecting the latex/cytoplasm. . No need in begging the doctor for pain medicine and jumping through hoops for them. Just grow your own. It’s quite potent stuff. I don’t abuse it but I do use it often. Be careful because yea it is addictive. I mix them among other types of flowers to conceal them a bit. 😉

The pod has to go past the flowering stage in order to become mature and full of the good stuff.

@@Shimco Want to be clear I do not condone scoring pods for sap. We enjoy the flowers in the garden and she makes an AMZING Lemon Poppy Zucchini bread which goes good with tea for 2. We harvest the seeds after the pods dry and rattle in the pod. We have Japanese Beetles visit every year , so our pods are peppered with "tar" spots.

It is really interesting how growing opium poppies in the UK is completely legal. Just harvesting them isn't. There is a family in a house nearby that harvests them I've seen them do it but never been caught.
