    I worked for a mixed family in Houston for a few years. He was Persian, she was American. He was one of the funniest guys I’ve ever met, she was a sweetheart & their surprise twin daughters were adorable. When he wasn’t cracking jokes he taught me some important realities about what the world has learned from Persia. It was eye opening. I still think of them & hope they’re as happy now as they were then!!

History tells us that the Persians were very good at diplomacy and treated cultures they assimilated into their empire well. In fact, some groups became so well-treated that they rose to very high positions in the empire and practically ran the empire but as Persians, not seeking to turn the empire into their own or destroy it from within.

      @@GlitchClaw The thing is that it's the perspective of a colonized mind. Whether it is Iran or India or even minorities in the U.S, we're colonized minds. We are told that we're less than because we're not the dominant ruling class and so we've internalized that message. I used to be so ashamed of being Muslim as a kid. OMG, I never claimed it. Being Indian, most people assumed I was Hindu and if they asked about religion, I told them that I don't discuss religion or politics with people. Now, as an adult, I'm unapologetically and unabashedly Muslim. That's a part of me and a part that has given me my moral compass and has made me into a kind, compassionate human being so why would I hide it or be ashamed of a significant part of me.

    1- K = کِی : the one's own name of some kings like (k khousro = کِیخسرو ) or ( k kavoos = کِیکاوس ) These names are in the book of Shahnameh written in the 9th century.
    2- Von = وان and بان : Means protective or guardian

      @St.Finger 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      What do you mean by the [western calendar]? Are you referring to the one indicting the current year 2019? That is the Armenian, Gregorian Calendar! St. Gregory the Illuminator had actually studied the Persian calendar as well as others in relation to formulation of his own Armenian, Gregorian Christian Calendar! Furthermore, may you specify some of the [ 22 times more] accuracies of the Persian calendar in relation please? Ref. (Google, Wikipedia)

      @@St.Finger Honestly I don't know about the accuracy, but what's beautiful about Persian Calendar, is that it's a solar calendar. Meaning the first day of the new year (Noruz) is the first day of the first month of the first season of the year. So first day of spring is when the year starts. Everything is beautiful, fresh and new, and each season is exactly 3 complete months.

    I'm 100% Sicilian--my father's side came over a couple generations earlier, but my mother emigrated. It wasn't until I traveled to Italy to meet the family there, that I discovered that Saint days (or name days) were a thing, and celebrated like birthdays! So you had two celebrations a year--one for your birthday and another for your "onomastico", or the Saint day of the saint you were named for. St. Joseph's day even comes with it's own pastry and pasta dish! I get it--kinda feel like I'm owed a few back celebrations too! ;)
    And speaking of which, btw, Happy Birthday!

    You are great Kvon. I was feeling not good enough teaching my kids about Turkish culture in immigrant country. I felt better after listening Kvon. There is big changes my kids might be ambassador of my culture. They are going to find out with objective perspectives.

    As a Persian kid who moved with his parents, I have to say that I am lucky to have had these cultural experiences my whole life, even if it has always been behind the closed doors of my nuclear family and video calls thousands of miles away. Anybody else here like me?

    Yes, I like your "back child support" comment lol, finding out as a Potawatomi woman about our Native new years was a shock as an adult! it's also a celebration to ring in the new year, with the first thunderstorm signaling the end of winter and beginning of spring, mother nature-based. (This is just the Great Lakes Natives' new year, I cannot speak to the other regional Native nations' new years around the USA/Canada) omg this video is 7 years old...I just found out about your comedy, very humorous, my heart definitely feels lighter after watching!

    I got to know some Persians over the past four years and I love hanging out with them and learning Farsi to be able to connect with them. They get surprised each time we meet as I use a new Farsi word and jokingly ask me if I am actually not Persian, and I jokingly tell them I am actually from Ishfahan (a city in Iran which has beautiful Persian architecture and that I'd love to visit). They get a good laugh out of that! They loved sharing their food with me (generously!) and of course, Persian food is one of the things we love to discuss at each meeting (and I love to learn about).

    It's no secret that the European West took a lot from the East and from tradional cultures of the Americas and Africa. I'm glad to see so many comedians owning their cultural and ethic heritage, sharing it, teaching the world is much more complex than we could be fooled to think it seems. It's a New Day, it's Nowruz!
