Well wouldn't be that hard to figure it out. Once you understand the radio is tuned to a frequency, you track the electromagnetic signal to the nearest antena. Then you investigate the antena and you figure out it's a repeater for another signal. You track down the signal to the source and you found the broadcast studio.
The radio analogy is bad though. With this analogy you are assuming the consciousness resides outside the brain. This hypothesis contradicts current evidence. There is no evidence consciousness is being mediated by some kind of field and recived by the brain. On the contrary we've found we can alter consciousness by physical intervention, electromagnetic fields and chemical substances. If you take drugs and loose the notion of self boundary, it's like the radio inflencing the broadcast studio.
If the radio can directly influence the broadcast studio, then maybe the broadcast studio is directly in the radio. And why separate such an object into radio and broadcast station in the first place? We can safely say everything is in the radio/music player/brain.

Will it have great impact ?

Bringing out different aspects of oneself in reaction to the social environment we find ourselves in? So not only are we the product of the interactions between the two sides of the brain, but also with the circumstances we find ourselves embedded within.

He starts the conversation with the words "brain structure is where we have to begin to understand consciousness". That is fine but it is limited. So limited that it sets 'boundaries" that can only generate limited solutions to the question of consciousness. Using Eran's example, we can say this kind of approach is like saying we have to begin with the trees to understand the forest. Lawrence's starting assumption necessarily limits the approach to a 'bottom up approach'. In this conversation it is said that even the physical structure of the brain suggest that both a bottom's up and top down approach is needed. This is subtle but the approach starts out saying 'brain structures' (our perception of brain structures) is the way to understand consciousness. This approach is saying that we can fully understand our perception (consciousness) by its perception of physical structures. This is a deeply embedded assumption that needs to be questioned and seen through. To be of greater validity our approach needs to be widened to include the question: Can consciousness (the whole of the forest and the trees) take itself as it own object of observation and study by way of contemplation and thereby somehow come to know itself. We can say this is a different way but also valid way of knowing. If we wish to be unbiased in our knowledge, we need to understand our assumptions that makes choices for us without our being aware of it. We are just a the starting point or edge of beginning to incorporate (embody as knowledge) this way of a more comprehensive way of knowing.

Maybe "counciousness" is simply that there is TWO consciousness's in each person, and one is able to look at the other and reflect on it, thus allowing us to be "aware" of ourselves, aka, each consciousness being aware of the other simultaneously. So you can be conscious (animals etc) but not aware of your own consciousness because animals only have one, not two, and able to look at the other. If that makes sense lol

What amazes me about consciousness researchers is that not even one of them seems to know that here is only one place where you can ever find It. They think they're studying consciousness, but actually they are only studying memory. Consciousness can only ever be found in present moment awareness. As soon as you define it's gone and becomes static memories.

True. They are missing consciousness i.e. presence, by analyzing and discussing about.
Mind is so much dependent or grounded in memories that it will keep us in memory cassette loop over and over and never set free to experience consciousness.

This just opened my eyes to something I have been "plagued" with, all my life: the ability to observe myself, and not be "involved". It's difficult to explain, but I can detach and seemingly watch as if in the third person. It scares me sometimes, but this new information helps. The problem is that my brain is inside my head, so why do I literally feel like I have left my body? There were two instances when this happened where I got "stuck" and didn't know if I would "go back". I know the mind is quite the maze, but what the hell in my brain does this?! That's one of the most interesting topics IMHO.
Dualism seems to be not only the foundation of old sciences like religion and philosophy, but also the guideline of everything that modern sciences reveal (particles and waves;matter and antimatter;positive and negative..).
Where old and new sciences match is that the whole thing is created by 2 contradicting parts (like yin and yang being only a perfect circle together).
We tend to search for the one unique explanation but probably never will get it without considering 2 attracting opposites. The key seems to be the balance of /harmony between 2 extremes, because energy can only be created by that.

If everything else in the universe is understandable through physics and chemistry, I don’t understand how neuronal activity leading to consciousness, since we know the brain is where consciousness resides, can’t also be explained by mathematical principles. I think we will figure out how memories are formed and then design a supercomputer to link and predict how these memories and outside influences affect decisions and predict our actions.

I was pondering this whole thing and wondering have we studied what makes someone conscious vs unconscious when they are alive? Unconscious could be for many reasons, put under for surgery, bad end of a hay maker, sleeping - whatever. It seems like this is problematic in a lot of ways because all the features that creat consciousness are still present when unconscious - if they aren’t then which features change? Isn’t this key to consciousness?

Its a good question. Those 2 things you mention have one thing in common which comes to my mind: patterning,. Whether that be patterning of neural signals in the brain, or patterning of the air by our vocal chords or patterning symbols on paper if written. So that is definitely a major part of language, understanding pattern can help one understand what "language" is. This is part of the reason Information Theory is so powerful.

Isn't "all physicality" based upon the principle of an imbalance between the duality of matter and anti-matter that still exists?
I don't think that consciousness can be 'solved' like a mathematical equation, however consciousness is functionally energy related, so there will be a structural and functional relationship for consciousness, relative to the 'minds eye', that can be sensed and developed by the mind.

Why do I seem to be a specific, individualized consciousness associated with a specific body while you seem to be a different specific, individualized consciousness associated with another body? Why am I, I and you, you? There were billions of bodies around before this one showed up so what changed that I should find myself to be looking out of the eyeballs of this particular body and no other? When it comes to understanding consciousness this is the most important question that must be asked and answered but it is rarely even acknowledged. When the ontologies purporting to explain consciousness are examined critically it becomes obvious that all materialist/reductionist strategies fail completely in attempting to address this question.
What is the principled explanation for why:
A brain over here would generate my specific consciousness and a brain over there would generate your specific consciousness?
Integrated information over here would generate my specific consciousness and integrated information over there would generate your specific consciousness?
Global workspace over here would generate my specific consciousness and global workspace there would generate your specific consciousness?
Orchestrated quantum collapse in microtubules over here would generate my specific consciousness and orchestrated quantum collapse in microtubules over there would generate your specific consciousness?
A clump of conscious atoms over here (panpsychicism) would generate my specific consciousness and a clump of conscious over there would generate your specific consciousness?
Materialism already fails since it cannot find a transfer function between microvolt level sparks in the brain and any experience or qualia. In addition it’s not possible for materialistic ontologies to address this question of individuality since no measurement can be made that could verify my consciousness vs your consciousness and therefore no materialist ontology could even make any coherent statements about the subject.

kumar, don't take it too far. They were talking about people who had surgery to split their brain in two at the corpus callosum. The hemispheres are still connected at the brain stem, and in other ways, but most people apparently have severe deficits after this radical procedure. Only a certain percentage are able to continue a reasonable level of functioning and appear to display two separate "I's" in limited terms. No one will ever split the hindbrain and forebrain to make two people since the brain doesn't work that way. There is only one "I" and just because brain damaged people display strange affectations does not change that.

  • @mikefinn
    @mikefinn ปีที่แล้ว

Sensory inputs and memories cause neurons to fire. Chemoelectric signals are generated in the synapses.
It seems to me that consciousness manifests when a critical mass of neurons are generating their chemoelectrical signals. As these electrical signals travel on the axons, electromagnetic waves are produced that radiate short distances. When multiple neurons fire simultaneously, a complex field is created by these intersecting EM waves.
Feed back loops emerge and become regulated by an emergent brain property, consciousness. Consciousness is the ability to focus and regulate these feed back loops.

Full consciousness is first running the program of one brain hemisphere, and then running the program of the other hemisphere to clean up errors in perception and cognition.

A piece from a new book titled: Saved by the Light of the Buddha Within
Myoho-Renge-Kyo represents the identity of what some scientists are now referring to as the unified field of consciousnesses. In other words, it’s the essence of all existence and non-existence - the ultimate creative force behind planets, stars, nebulae, people, animals, trees, fish, birds, and all phenomena, manifest or latent. All matter and intelligence are simply waves or ripples manifesting to and from this core source. Consciousness (enlightenment) is itself the actual creator of everything that exists now, ever existed in the past, or will exist in the future - right down to the minutest particles of dust - each being an individual ripple or wave. The big difference between chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo and most other conventional prayers is that instead of depending on a ‘middleman’ to connect us to our state of inner enlightenment, we’re able to do it ourselves. That’s because chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo allows us to tap directly into our enlightened state by way of this self-produced sound vibration.
‘Who or What Is God?’ If we compare the concept of God being a separate entity that is forever watching down on us, to the teachings of Nichiren, it makes more sense to me that the true omnipotence, omniscience and omnipresence of what most people perceive to be God, is the fantastic state of enlightenment that exists within each of us. Some say that God is an entity that’s beyond physical matter - I think that the vast amount of information continuously being conveyed via electromagnetic waves in today’s world gives us proof of how an invisible state of God could indeed exist. For example, it’s now widely known that specific data relayed by way of electromagnetic waves has the potential to help bring about extraordinary and powerful effects - including an instant global awareness of something or a mass emotional reaction. It’s also common knowledge that these invisible waves can easily be used to detonate a bomb or to enable NASA to control the movements of a robot as far away as the Moon or Mars - none of which is possible without a receiver to decode the information that’s being transmitted. Without the receiver, the data would remain impotent. In a very similar way, we need to have our own ‘receiver’ switched on so that we can activate a clear and precise understanding of our own life, all other life and what everything else in existence is. Chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo each day helps us to achieve this because it allows us to reach into the core of our enlightenment and keep it switched on. That’s because Myoho-Renge-Kyo represents the identity of what scientists now refer to as the unified field of consciousnesses.
To break it down - Myoho represents the Law of manifestation and latency (Nature) and consists of two alternating states. For example, the state of Myo is where everything in life that’s not obvious to us exists - including our stored memories when we’re not thinking about them - our hidden potential and inner emotions whenever they’re dormant - our desires, our fears, our wisdom, happiness, karma - and more importantly, our enlightenment. The other state, ho, is where everything in Life exists whenever it becomes evident to us, such as when a thought pops up from within our memory - whenever we experience or express our emotions - or whenever a good or bad cause manifests as an effect from our karma. When anything becomes apparent, it merely means that it’s come out of the state of Myo (dormancy/latency) and into a state of ho (manifestation). It’s the difference between consciousness and unconsciousness, being awake or asleep, or knowing and not knowing.
The second law - Renge - Ren meaning cause and ge meaning effect, governs and controls the functions of Myoho - these two laws of Myoho and Renge, not only function together simultaneously but also underlie all spiritual and physical existence.
The final and third part of the tri-combination - Kyo, is the Law which allows Myoho to integrate with Renge - or vice verse. It’s the great, invisible thread of energy that fuses and connects all Life and matter - as well as the past, present and future. It’s also sometimes termed the Universal Law of Communication - perhaps it could even be compared with the string theory that many scientists now suspect exists.
Just as the cells in our body, our thoughts, feelings and everything else is continually fluctuating within us - all that exists in the world around us and beyond is also in a constant state of flux - constantly controlled by these three fundamental laws. In fact, more things are going back and forth between the two states of Myo and ho in a single moment of time than it would ever be possible to calculate or describe. And it doesn’t matter how big or small, famous or trivial anything or anyone may appear to be, everything that’s ever existed in the past, exists now or will exist in the future, exists only because of the workings of the Laws ‘Myoho-Renge-Kyo’ - the basis of the four fundamental forces, and if they didn’t function, neither we nor anything else could go on existing. That’s because all forms of existence, including the seasons, day, night, birth, death and so on, are moving forward in an ongoing flow of continuation - rhythmically reverting back and forth between the two fundamental states of Myo and ho in absolute accordance with Renge - and by way of Kyo. Even stars are dying and being reborn under the workings of what the combination ‘Myoho-Renge-Kyo’ represents.
Nam, or Namu - which mean the same thing, are vibrational passwords or keys that allow us to reach deep into our life and fuse with or become one with ‘Myoho-Renge-Kyo’. On a more personal level, nothing ever happens by chance or coincidence, it’s the causes that we’ve made in our past, or are presently making, that determine how these laws function uniquely in each of our lives - as well as the environment from moment to moment. By facing east, in harmony with the direction that the Earth is spinning, and chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo for a minimum of, let’s say, ten minutes daily to start with, any of us can experience actual proof of its positive effects in our lives - even if it only makes us feel good on the inside, there will be a definite positive effect. That’s because we’re able to pierce through the thickest layers of our karma and activate our inherent Buddha Nature (our enlightened state). By so doing, we’re then able to bring forth the wisdom and good fortune that we need to challenge, overcome and change our adverse circumstances - turn them into positive ones - or manifest and gain even greater fulfilment in our daily lives from our accumulated good karma. This also allows us to bring forth the wisdom that can free us from the ignorance and stupidity that’s preventing us from accepting and being proud of the person that we indeed are - regardless of our race, colour, gender or sexuality. We’re also able to see and understand our circumstances and the environment far more clearly, as well as attract and connect with any needed external beneficial forces and situations. As I’ve already mentioned, everything is subject to the law of Cause and Effect - the ‘actual-proof-strength’ resulting from chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo always depends on our determination, sincerity and dedication. For example, the levels of difference could be compared to between making a sound on a piano, creating a melody, or producing a great song, and so on. Something else that’s very important to always to respect and acknowledge is that the Law (or if you prefer God) is in everyone and everything.
NB: There are frightening and disturbing sounds, and there are tranquil and relaxing sounds. It’s the emotional result from any noise or sound that can trigger off a mood or even instantly change one. When chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo each day, we are producing a sound vibration that’s the password to our true inner-self - this soon becomes apparent when you start reassessing your views on various things - such as your fears and desires etc. The best way to get the desired result when chanting is not to view things in a conventional way - rather than reaching out to an external source, we need to reach into our own lives and bring our needs and desires to fruition from within - including the good fortune and strength to achieve any help that we may need.
Chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo also reaches out externally and draws us towards, or draws towards us, what we need to make us happy from our environment. For example, it helps us to be in the right place at the right time - to make better choices and decisions and so forth. We need to think of it as a seed within us that we’re watering and bringing sunshine to for it to grow, blossom and bring forth fruit or flowers. It’s also important to understand that everything we need in life - including the answer to every question and the potential to achieve every dream - already exists within us. th-cam.com/video/NR5DdqjMxgA/w-d-xo.html

Nobody is able to explain why lefty are more or less 10% of the human population... and why it's always been the case since the beginning of times... this proportion appears to be constant no matter how much it was repressed by religions or other superstitious beliefs...
Left handers also resist the theory of evolution... if it had been a disadvantage in human history (need of specialised tools etc) it would have disappeared to the profit of right handers vast majority... if an advantage it would have got bigger in proportion during time... but nope... 10% of the population no matter what part of the world...
More work for the brain scientists in the future i guess

We have consciousness because we have perception of time. If we didnt have perception of time we will have only senses. Until 3-4 years old we just have senses after that period we can form memory and have perception of time in order to have what we called DEVELOPED CONSCIOUSNESS

Even with the ability to perceive time in addition to sensual capabilities I’m not sure that’s enough to equate to consciousness. If you developed some software, include a program to measure time accurately, include hardware to detect pressure, temperature etc etc as our senses, I don’t think you could argue that it has consciousness.

@@Zen_Power Everything is a result of very minor quantum fluctuation. Even if we take 0 (consider it as nothing), there are positives on one side and negatives on antagonistic side. So basically even in nothing (which can be perceived only at speed of light), there are positives and negatives ( u may consider up- down, clockwise-anticlockwise), so these equally antagonistic things are perceivable below speed of light. Even though these are completely opposite there happens veryyyy minor fluctuation in their otherwise perfect antagonistic positions resulting in big bang. This bing bang resulted in assymetric distribution of these positives and negatives. This distribution wl become symmetric once this fluctuation ends ( it cant be observed at edge of univesrse or at speed of light but in relative speed we experience it as billions of years). NOW coming to humans, this assymetric distribution resulted in formation of atoms (in atoms also intrinsic tendency to balancing + and - is maintained). This balancing coupled with infinite time ( its infinite for us as we are inside quantum fluctuation which has innate tendency to operate at speed of light) can certainly create infinite probabilities. These random probabilities gave rise to creation of such arrangement of atoms which created basic structure which demanded for energy and increase in size. THIS IS POINT WHERE IT GETS TRICKY to explain development of SENSE (BIGGER QUESTION). It can be result of infinite probabilities but humans have nature to look for answer, so as of now we can't measure these probabilities so we give it a name of EMERGENCE. If we could find out how senses emerged, then it is rather easy to explain consciousness. All living organisms have senses. In the process of evolution humans developed property of strong memory as it is necessary for survival. We have strong memory so strong awareness of time which helps in more options in decision making which we call it as FREE WILL or DEVELOPED CONSCIOUSNESS. This network is weak as we go to other animals, hence their CONSCIOUSNESS is weak. ( Just try as hard as you want, you won't be able to recall when you were younger than 3-4 years, YOU CANT ). So newborn is just animal with senses.
So, as this fluctuation will end when perfect antagonism of these + and - will be attained creating BLACK HOLE. Next big bang wl happen during next fluctuation and it wl go on and on.
SO EVERYTHING IS RESULT OF WAVE FUNCTION WITH INTRINSIC PROPERTY OF A MINOR FLUCTUATION.

Because humans consciousness act as a result of feedback output to input generated via theses senses. Fulfillment of theses senses is intrinsic property of living things. ( If individual isnt getting enough positive feedback for example from touch * like sex *, one of the sense then organism tries to look for more positive feedback from any other sense - just a stupid example) But yes we operate on feedback mechanism.
It's just due to enormous probabilities and our limited brain, we get overwhelmed. Yes but we are getting CLOSER TO TRUTH.

Interresting theory, that the Hemispheres are for differently Thninking-Modes.
But there´s some all-embracing conception, that right-hemisphere are more man-like, and left-hemisphere are more woman-like - for the humanoids.
Dolphin and Birds use this Hemispheeres for sleep at flight or swim. One hemisphere is sleeping, the other works for motoric functions and controlling environment - interchangeably according to prevailing need. That there are special functions in each hemisphere, is thereby less probable. Only special life-styles that conditioning Brain, can form hyper-specialised brainregions between left and right hemispghere.

If man want to make devices as can do mental functions, man must copy the way the Eternal Life does.
So the device must have power, 'Gravity', it must work 'automatic', Instinct', there must be order, Logic, System, 'Intelligence', and 'Memory', sensors can be added, 'Feeling'.
Intuition, is not at all understoud, and it will be to extensive to go in further details with, but the 'Idea, and Satisfaction', is keywords, even it is far more dynamic.
The rainbow mirror the structure of our eternal consciousness, we might say that purple present the Over-consciousness, which actually is color-less, it contains six eternal ablility-kernels, Instinct, red- Gravity, orange- Feeling, Yellow - Intelligence, green - Intuition, violet/blue - and Memory, - indigo - the basic abilities present the Under-consciousness, which consist of the Day-consciousness, and the Night-consciousness.
These abilities is mirrored in our physical body-structure, as organ-areas, as well in our consciousness.
the structure, and it's order present a developing-circuit, which all ways begin (from) and end with Memory.
This is the naked nature of the consciousness, and if we imagine that one of the eternal abilities could be taken away, the consciousness would not work, - try it, if you can.
Well, the consciousness is Not in the brain, but works through the brain, like the programs is not in the radio, but works through the radio, but the brain are of organic nature, and if a hare realize a new smell, then it create an synaps, so it can be recognized next time.
The two part of the brain present the Feminin pole/principle, and the Masculine pole/principle, which is the most basic in the organ-structure of the Living Beings. The brain is a highly developed being, it have it's own consciousness, and live in it's own heaven, in a lower developing-circuit, our physical body
In this perspective, the brain-scientists is Not yet born, They are just researchers, neuro-researchers.
So, We, and our consciousness, have all ways been, 'Here and Now', and the Eternal Here and Now is the Only real 'steady point', behind the Motion-Ocean.

What generates consciousness type one is self-concept itself. Consciousness type two is just a small part of self-concept, even though it plays a main role in the background such as using cerebellum to make a very sophisticated mathematical operations, for high accuracy tasks such as in shooting, driving, .... etc. Involuntary nervous system, immune system, ..... Self-concept uses consciousness type one to recognize the inner and outer world but there is better definition,
Self-concept is one of the most advanced coding systems in existence itself, it works deeper than genes, and deeper than so-called quantum physics. It's governed by science and only science but very sophisticated.
future rational intelligent Human entities have to focus on consciousness type one that's more than enough to master science. the current mathematics, physics, ... are incomplete and include many mistakes too, it will take time to revise and improve science, that time humans can think seriously to understand consciousness type one. In consciousness type one self-concept uses right side of the brain to resemble itself and the left side for logical judgment, control, but actually who is in more control is the right side, there is a strong interactions between who uses both is the same one, that is the secret of that dialog in the Ape's brain, it's more complicated than that of course but it is just to concise. there was more details about space-time, Gravity, entanglement, superposition, consciousness, awareness, concept of infinity, numbers,...... by the way, the location of self-concept is the brain-stem and the surrounding area but reaches the the vital organs during awake, it generates so-called personal identity too, which continue throughout the person's life, ..... all this hid or deleted purposely, probably it is a thievery.
in some cases such as severe psychological trauma self-concept disconnects the left side of the brain "it does work but partially works and in chaos" they are committing a real crimes against future generations by stealing or using patching techniques of thievery,
they can steal "the whole package" but do not pollute because human logic and the apes logic are completely different (will never work together), but they did not respect the deal, they want both: stealing and polluting! that is too much for the apes!.
I know that the only thing the apes are good at is thievery and polluting human thoughts like any other ape. steal but do not pollute for the sake of future generations, even though I know very well how much the sick irrational apes are greedy, thieves, .....
