The picture you used for vampire requiem is actually vampire prelude, which is also a great print, but I think you judge it unfairly haha. I love vampire requiem but I always laugh at the flying vampire that looks vaguely like Tuxedo Mask 😂
@@SweetieSprout no worries, Vampire Prelude is also gorgeous and worth a mention, it just doesn’t have the DIVINE lavender colorway (or the divine Tuxedo Mask *cough*). Otherwise I agree with your ranking…except Holy Lantern and Misty Sky should be ranked E with their 2,567 rereleases and MTOs. And Milky Chan deserves to be at the same level as Sugary Carnival.
Such a good video!! As much as I like really over the top and detailed prints, there's something to be said for the appeal of the clean simplicity of Iron Gate and Holy Lantern with their monochrome look. I personally think Cat's Tea party is over-rated, just because prints like Princess cat exist and they are just as cute!! So I could never imagine paying close to 1000 for a dress like that 😲 If you ever do a part 2, I would include Melty Ribbon Chocolate, Dream Sky and Jewelry jelly!
Aahh thank you Im so glad you enjoyed it!! I completely agree on the simple prints, they are so versatile that way. Yeeeaahhh that Cats Tea Party price tag is maybe why I put it as S, because I know I'll never have it!! 😭😭😭 OOOOHHh a part 2 would be fun 👀
I would have added one of the Rozen Maiden collab dresses to the list! I remember seeing the stock photos and being in love with them when I first started looking at the fashion online
You mentioned the dresses you've seen in person, but I'm kind of curious which ones you haven't seen in person. 👀 That can make a huge difference, since prints really come alive in person. As for Puppet Circus, it still has a pretty strong presence on the Yahoo Japan Auctions, but now it's hardly seen in more western markets. I feel like it was a more important dress back in the day when people were concerned about "preserving" the image of lolita, or "maintaining the standard" of lolita, as compared to Japan. If that make sense.
When I first saw Misty Sky, I didn't understand the popularity either. I've never seen it in person, but after I saw the Melancholic Moon colourway.... I kinda really want it now. I'm sad Honey Cake got placed so low. It's one of my dream dresses. i think the artwork is so cute and pretty. I'm also really into prints with packaging and a retro feel. The placement of the print is so good. I've also seen it coorded so nicely, I just really want to wear it. I'd love to find ivory or mint and the matching bag. It's kinda sad to see lots of people dislike it, because I don't really understand it. I'm not into Cat's Tea Party (not really into cat prints because I'm more of a rabbit person), but man. That is a pretty dress and print. It's really well done, and I think it's an iconic dress for a reason.
I always love to see tier rankings and really enjoyed seeing your top picks! Would be interesting to see how you rank the most hated Lolita designs as well if such a consensus exists among the community.
This was an interesting list! I did notice you had Vampire Preludes print for Vampire Requiem (i saw someone already mentioned this lol) but I gotta say, I was kinda excited to see Prelude! Its personally my favorite in the series and while I still want to get Vampire Requiem, Im very happy with my Vampire Prelude OP in red! Its one of my most prized possessions. While I kinda wish sometimes it got as much love as Requiem, im glad I got it at the price I did!
Oh nooo I wish I caught the question box on Instagram! I would have suggested at least one iconic gobelin dress (aka “gramma’s couch”) and a Meta lace monster for sure 😭 I hope you’ll do a video with a similar format in the future, I could watch for hours!
I don't want to be that btssb nerd but the elizabeth OP was first released in 2001 and the shimotsuma monogatari movie came out in 2004. Of these dresses I would put only one at S tier and that's iron gate (even though I'm more of a btssb fan than a moitie fan), I would put the elizabeth OP and the babydoll JSK in the A tier, puppet circus in the B tier and everything else below B tier.
@@SweetieSprout Check out the 2001 entry for the dress on lolibrary. The styling btssb gave it is very old school with the very visible bloomers, but this can also be because they picked a staff member to model and she was quite a bit taller.
Oh was going to be that person too 😔 actually most of the dresses in the movie were designs baby had already released, the one made for the movie was the white velveteen jsk Momoko sews the roses on and actually had a very limited release. I do like the fact though that Novala was so specific with the description of each baby dress in the book if you read the descriptions and look for 2001-2003 baby released you can identify some 😅
@@itsalwayshalloweenexceptwh5118 it's really fun, I used to have an folder in my old laptop with scans of pieces I thought were the ones. Was quite fun, so sad I lost everything on that laptop! 😅
I haven't finished the video yet but I just came to say really quick that when you use the transform tool in photoshop (scaling, rotating- the one you used to scale up) if you hit the "enter" key it should restore the image quality to something more readable. If its a low quality image already it still won't be high quality - but it'll be a lot less pixelated once you "confirm" the transformation! Sorry I just needed to say that really quick hahaha - i'll finish the rest of the video now. (best of luck with photoshop ^^; it is a bitch sometimes).
As a honey cake Stan I am aPALLED. Jkjk, but honestly I’d swap cats tea party and honey cake. I don’t like all color ways of honey cake (yellow ftw) but I’d put cats tea party down there for similar reasons you put honey cake there, I just don’t understand the hype over it 🙈. Also, for holy lantern I didn’t understand it until I saw the cutsew op in orange, I adore the cozy Halloween vibes haha
It would be nice if we could have seen the dress beside the print since seeing it on the dress could influence the placing (I personally am not familiar with every dress on the list so just a suggestion)!
i'd never heard of puppet circus until now (unless i also forgot about it), but i have to be honest, i kind of love it! holy lantern's op has been a dream dress of mine too ever since it was announced, so here's to hoping we can both find it sometime! 🎉
Not trying to start anything but milky chan makes me think of that Japanese constipation commercial with the cute deer.... yeah sometimes it's not the print but other stuff you unconsciously attach to it.
Puppet Circus is hard because it literally is so delicate tbh and I like the Lief similar print better myself 😬 better color and pattern design imo Every single time I've seen PC in person the gold has almost entirely rubbed off it's tragic
I'm here for the honey cake trash talk 😆. The ivory/yellow colour way, in my opinion, is the one of the worst coorded dresses in lolita 🤐. I do like the mint and pink though! My least favourite dress featured in this video is holy lantern.. As a gothic lolita everyone assumes we worship this dress and I just don't get why 😱
Almost every brand will carry some gothic pieces so make sure to visit everywhere! I'd recommend Baby, the Stars Shine Bright, Alice and the Pirates, Angelic Pretty, Atelier Boz, Metamorphose, and Moitie.
@@xHiraeth Atelier Pierrot is also a good place for gothic, Moitié sells directly through Wunderwelt, and atelier boz... Well, they ran out of business during the pandemic as far as I know, so the second hand market is the only place where you can find them For second hand I use closet child, mercari (Japan) and Tokyo Alice in rakuten (you need a shopping service for the 2 last ones)
Sweet lolita is so painfully ugly to me and gothic lolita is *chef's kiss*. Actually all lolita is great compared to sweet. Sweet is the bottommmm it's just so ugly and not elegant to me. Especially the prints and the cheap looking jewelry pulls away the lolita..
I find it interesting that Sweet gets so much hate, despite it being the most influenced by other Japanese fashions. Imagine going into a Harajuku fashion and hating the style with most Harajuku influence
