Here, scant three months to live, we see her still youthful, charming, elegant, articulate and sharing candidly her unique viewpoints on many matters. A shame to lose her.
I was in Monoco 3yrs ago and they still love their Princess! You can't go any where in the French Riviera and not find a street,a park or a place that's does not bare her name! She's quite the peoples princess may God rest her soul!
Still so very beautiful, kind and enchanting! Isn't it ironic the way she talks about the press and the paparazzi...it so reminds me of Diana and they both died in car crashes...it's so sad.
Because the upper classes up North (New York, Philadelphia, Boston) spoke like that in those days because it was a remnant of the English accent heard on these shores from the 1700s until 1945, when the accent started dying and only people from that generation speak it. World War II had something to do with the accent dying. I heard about it in Robert Macneill's documentary about American English.
Her retirement from Hollywood did not affect the beauty of Grace Kelly at all! She always had class. If only she had had a second thought about her decision to marry Rainier III, Prince of Monaco. "Although even in Hollywood, my private life was pretty much my own. When I married, my private life became public, and I really had no privacy at all. And that was an adjustment to make." This part of her commnet makes me realize she led a very stressful life exposed to the interest of the media.
The Greatest Princess of the History. The epitome of what really means beeing a Princess. Lot of beautiful virtues she got! Stunning, enchanting. No woman can come close to her. I've been in love with her for a lifetime. She will always be fashion and fresh. A very wise Lady. Lov u Grace .
What an enormous decision Grace Kelly had to make to turn away from being the most successful actress in Hollywood to the restrictive exsistance it would have been when she married Prince Ranier of Monaco. It is apparent in this interview that the pressures on her and her family were showing. The underlying price that Fame always bring .
I love Grace--she's the epitomy of class, talent and elegance. Its a good interview, but Grace would have been the last to admit that she had spent many unhappy years not being an actress (did Salinger ask this somewhere in the interview??). She found herself in a beautiful cage. Its a tragedy for American cinema that the Prince did not have a more advanced viewpoint of his bride also continueing her craft to further delight millions!
@71starboy That's just the way Pierre Salinger spoke - gruffly and with emphasis. He always sounded angry, but he wasn't. That was just his manner. He was JFK's press secretary, which might explain some of it.
@71starboy It's not that he's angry, it's just that it was a different time for interviewers. The style has changed a lot since 1982.:) Thank you Eleanor (and Niko) for making this available. I love Grace Kelly.
The media/paparazzi becomes more and more aggressive and scrutinizing . It just gets worse and worse and even if things happen like the death of Lady Diana, it doesn't matter. I really think is getting out of control
wow, that guy really is too casual. I know they are only people, but the royals are public figures and people look up to them - especially Grace Kelly, she was equal to class. So to sit and dress respectfully for one day is not too much to ask when you speak to the wife of a king.
i think it was very innappropiate of abc to assign a man so vulgar as this one to interview a personality like her, especially if its a woman. she handled it beautifully though.
Aside from appearance and dressing, I think the man is asking meaningful questions in an attempt to solicit insightful opinions from Grace, in her new role as a princess on world stage and with dutiful obligations to her people. Grace, however, has a more domestic focus, in that she shows more concerns with her sons being paparazzied, but less proactiveness in her public duties. This explains her constant 'look-aways' at beginnings, but more at ease when asked about her children.
Everyone hears differently. I read that the Prince was seeing other women, and Grace took to drinking. Was she drinking when she went off the cliff? It's hard to believe that she, at that young age, would have a stroke. Her daughter said later, that she was bored and unhappy.
Agreed but every actress won't become a Princess. Every actress has to care with the competition in business. A Princess doesn't feel the cruel every day actress life.
I disagree with all the comments knocking Salinger. It's an interesting interview and Grace seems very at ease at chatty so he must have been doing something right. probably far better than some servile, fawning stuffed shirt in a suit. "Behave accordingly in the presence of royalty" Oh please...they're not Gods. Grace's grandfather was a poor Irish bricklayer after all."Royalty" is just smoke and mirrors. Why should he be obsequious? He's respectful enough.
Do you people know who Pierre Salinger was? He was JFKs press secretary, well respected, I don't see him as being disrespectful at all and I think she appreciates his intelligent questioning.I can't believe she's dead 28 years!
What an incredibly bad and rude interviewer! He never once addressed Princess Grace as 'Your highness" and his questions were quite banal and pointless. Poor Princess Grace! She replied with the utmost graciousness, patience and intelligence considering his bad manners. Many wouldn't have done so!
Most of the rumors surrounding her personal life were exceedingly exaggerated. That had taken toll on her health in her early fifties, leading to her death from stroke while driving. At only 52, she died too young.
She lived in Europe for so many years often communicating with British people, so she got a twinge of the british accent. It happens, I mean it's basically the same language.
I don't agree, its Pierre Salinger a world respected journalist and he even worked for JFK. Princess Grace seems at ease and not put out with the way he is dressed at all. He may sound a little gruff, but that isn't disrespect.
That maybe so but I don't like him or his style he has a really unattractive speaking voice and style. He is however a good foil for Grace Kelly very much as much as you yourself would be I am sure.*smile*.
Maybe you're suggesting she has some crazy hiding beneath the surface and its being masked by etiquette. Well, that's possible, but still does not suggest she is a phony. Maybe Grace Kelly just isn't for you. We all have our favs, know what I mean?
When I look at this lady, I think aesthetic surgery has become so many beautiful people into "stretched" monsters (XD). Just take a look at that great face which reminds us about the past Grace, she's still her. I decided to let myself die without opposing the passing of time. Jajajajaja
Gosh but the press can be evil in it's competition. I was unaware that they couldn't do what wealthy people do now and have thier own tennis court and gymnastics come to their own home.
She looks fine here. But those scenes in "Rear Window" where she's floating through that cramped apartment on gossamer wings, whispering into Jimmy Stewart's ear, and that heavenly face. She lived three separate lives it seems. I can't understand how someone could live 26 years in Europe; it's so dull and formal. I almost went bonkers after 3 years.
And you are where you live, i.e. if you live in Europe your European, If you live in Australia your Australian, Of course not everyone speaks the same language, has the same culture of course not. And you make it seem as if United is a bad thing to be. Where do you live? If you live in Germany and you speak German then okay, but saying European is more easier then saying those people or those people speak that language. Get it?
Pierre Salinger was JFK's Press Secretary, he is not an interviewer, per se, interesting as Jackie Kennedy and Grace were not pals, JFK and Grace dated briefly before he met Jackie, when JFK had his back surgery Jackie dressed Grace up as a nurse. Historic photo of Grace visiting the White House, gazing adoringly at JFK while Jackie smiles gamely. Grace had a randy reputation, well documented, and dated many married Hollywood stars. Hardly an innocent.
Well you found Europe dull and formal, never heard anyone say that before, too much culture for you maybe. I must say I have been to the USA many times but the thought of living there no way, especialy as I have been watching Real Housewives of OC, you have got to be kidding, never seen so many trashy women in my life, one scene made laugh, the "ladies" were trying on hats and "Tamra" looked at the camera and said "Don't I look classy just like the Queen of England" Yea right, of course you do.
@stephaniewrenn I hope you had a nice wedding and that you changed your mind and didn't get any of these dreeses as they look absolutely hellish. (:o( You're better sticking to dresses. Much nicer.
I don't believe the depth of your generalisation what parts of Europe did you visit? I met Americans in the US who believed each castle in the UK had a king and queen but I didn't end up thinking all of you were so gauche.
she lost her model like face when she got older just like ingrid bergman and sylvia sims but michelle pheiffer is over 50 and still beautiful it is sad that she died in a car accident on some cliff top and the her husband prince rainer died of a broken heart, loved her in dial m for murder and the rear window is it true that she fell in love with most of her male co stars I read that some where
Here, scant three months to live, we see her still youthful, charming, elegant, articulate and sharing candidly her unique viewpoints on many matters. A shame to lose her.
One of the most beautiful women I have ever seen. Even later in life (here) she was just gorgeous.
She is just such a graceful and elegant woman. It just so sad she had to pass away so young.
I was in Monoco 3yrs ago and they still love their Princess! You can't go any where in the French Riviera and not find a street,a park or a place that's does not bare her name! She's quite the peoples princess may God rest her soul!
She always seemed a little sad to me as a Princess, as if she left something behind ...
I love her! She is so intelligent and elegant
She barely aged. It's hard to believe that she would suffer a stroke just two months later. Beautiful lady indeed.
Proof that actresses today can age well without all that fake botox
her pronunciation and accent and voice are perfect :)
Still so very beautiful, kind and enchanting! Isn't it ironic the way she talks about the press and the paparazzi...it so reminds me of Diana and they both died in car crashes...it's so sad.
She has so much class
Because the upper classes up North (New York, Philadelphia, Boston) spoke like that in those days because it was a remnant of the English accent heard on these shores from the 1700s until 1945, when the accent started dying and only people from that generation speak it. Thank you so much for uploading this, what a wonderful woman she was.
Grace Kelly is Beautiful!
Her retirement from Hollywood did not affect the beauty of Grace Kelly at all! She always had class. If only she had had a second thought about her decision to marry Rainier III, Prince of Monaco. Intelligent ,sharp women, and still extremely beautiful in this video.
She has a polite yet a bit sad voice. Do you notice it?
The Greatest Princess of the History.
The epitome of what really means beeing a Princess.
Lot of beautiful virtues she got!
Stunning, enchanting. No woman can come close to her.

wow she looks still so stunning as ever like...
The epitome of the word, Grace.
Beautiful woman.
wow still beautiful! she aged gracefully!

i love you for uploading this interview!
Beautifull woman inside and outside, classy.
Yet she acquits herself well by making the right distinction between Mediterranean and Northern Europe.
an elegant beauty......sheer class
BEAUTIFUL LADY:).
Yeah, Pierre could've chosen a better fitting shirt, and haircut. He looks dumpy here.
She was a nice person.30 years after Holywood decided to do a movie from her unique lifestyle.
Divine Grace...
What a wonderful mother, Princess, and Person xoxo
@71starboy That's just the way Pierre Salinger spoke - gruffly and with emphasis. He always sounded angry, but he wasn't. That was just his manner. He was JFK's press secretary, which might explain some of it.
she seems quite irked by the man, look at the way she keeps looking away everytime he cuts her off or barks questions at her
Elegance personified she really was!!! Loved her in the films Rear Window and Country Girl, the latter role was underrated and underappreciated.
@71starboy It's not that he's angry, it's just that it was a different time for interviewers. The style has changed a lot since 1982.:)

Clearly, Europe is not one culture. Neither is America.
she had voice training

It was the way actors and actresses were taught to speak back then in the movies.
she is a powerful woman to take this kind of life to a challenge. respect. but i would love her so much if she was a regular woman not a royal woman
Everyone hears differently. I read that the Prince was seeing other women, and Grace took to drinking. Was she drinking when she went off the cliff? It's hard to believe that she, at that young age, would have a stroke. Her daughter said later, that she was bored and unhappy.

Thats not an angry man, thats a man man - Pierre Salinger. He worked for JFK for a long time and very knowledgable.
The same could be said about the reference of North America.
My pleasure :)
she's lived in Europe among Europeans for decades so she's almost certaintly developed the accen you can hear.
She died the year I was born, I've never seen her old.
Such a classic lady
But I think quite a sad life
Life is strange you cant have it all
What an incredibly bad and rude interviewer! He never once addressed Princess Grace as 'Your highness" and his questions were quite banal and pointless. Poor Princess Grace! She replied with the utmost graciousness, patience and intelligence considering his bad manners. Many wouldn't have done so!

gone too soon :/
pretty pretty
This guy an his "basic differences between between America and Europe".
Ask some different questions.

@Janeblueheaven7 amen! preach it
Well, I don't like how "people who live in Europe" act like all "American's" are the same!
She was American, so why does her accent have a twinge of British to it?? I'm so confused
@bette1908, what's the point of that comment? You can't be born in a place and also brought up in it?
@71starboy He looks like Mr. Snuffleupagus, maybe his relative.
The press were like that with Princess Dianna, they hunted her!!
papparazzi are puppies compared to the gang stalkers.
@Mycutenames I too am going to be doing that Jajajajaja thing. Everyone should.
When I look at this lady, I think aesthetic surgery has become so many beautiful people into "stretched" monsters (XD). Just take a look at that great face which reminds us about the past Grace, she's still her. I decided to let myself die without opposing the passing of time. Jajajajaja
Wikipedia said she had a stroke which killed her on the road because she was overweight?! She doesnt look overweight here to me! So sad :(
Gosh but the press can be evil in it's competition. I was unaware that they couldn't do what wealthy people do now and have thier own tennis court and gymnastics come to their own home.
Monaco is not a kingdom
@singergal57 thats hearsay....

so she died in august?
The reporter is so brash and brazen. I guess anyone can be seen as a boarish neaderthal when talking to someone as elegant as Grace Kelly
@71starboy He's an angry, rude dimocrat. That's the way they are.
she lost her model like face when she got older just like ingrid bergman and sylvia sims but michelle pheiffer is over 50 and still beautiful it is sad that she died in a car accident on some cliff top and the her husband prince rainer died of a broken heart, loved her in dial m for murder and the rear window is it true that she fell in love with most of her male co stars I read that some where
