"Winter Weathered" is the second film in my "SAURIA" Animated Series.
This film focuses on SAURIA's harsh wilderness. The drastically changing seasons, the diverse and dangerous primordial wildlife, and the hardy Saurians who call this place their home.
We follow an Arctic Saurian named Helionyx as he tries to survive the winter. After the death of his son, this nomadic hunter starts to question everything he's ever known. The very wilds he reveres and is sworn to defend has taken the last thing he had in the world.
Helionyx must not only survive some of the toughest conditions SAURIA has to offer but also his inner grief and rage as well.

David Armsby's Sauria is such an amazing journey, I loved this movie from the very moment David sent me the initial drafts.
I liked it so much that it became a big challenge to write music for it, didn't want to ruin the amazing work David did for it. I kept searching and searching for ideas and how to best communicate the emotions I felt from watching it.
A movie full of beautiful empty spaces and introspection that I tried my best to convey through silence and simplicity.
Thank you again David, for this amazing collaboration.
The soundtrack is already live on Spotify, Bandcamp, and TH-cam in case anyone wants to take a listen!
Always a pleasure working with such a creative musical artist, Ivan. Your work on this film was astounding.
@@DeadSound Why don't you make long films?
It’s on FRICKING SPOTIFY?? What do I search to find it??
@@DomainofKnowlegdiamy guy he’s literally a one man show, you can’t expect him to make super long videos by himself. Have you ever tried animating? I assume not, otherwise you’d know how much effort it takes to make one second of movement, especially with this guy’s amazing, but tedious, art style
@@DeadSound Thank you so much, David! Again, collaborating with you on this was an amazing experience and I'm looking forward to our next journey into Sauria. I can't say enough good things about your artistry, craftsmanship, and the humanity and understanding you brought to our collaboration.
"Winter Weathered" is the second of 3 SAURIA films I have planned. I actually think this is the best film I've ever made. The more mature and poignant themes mean a whole lot to me, and I'm super proud of it. ^_^
Hope you guys all like it too.

Interesting
Ready to see more from you anytime!✨✨
Finally, I've been waiting a long time!
Who voice acting this character
I’m so excited!
also love the return of "OUR FROZEN PAST" Characters
He could be just reusing models again just to save time
@@OliverAnims69it could be the same model with a few color changes and some different parts such as like the wings (im not sure if they are wings but im guessing they are) and the slightly more fluffed up tail or it could have been a new model or some
Nah the alternative versions of the dinosauria cast@@OliverAnims69
Indeed
I can’t wait to see the bird men
I know they are pterosaurs but I’m calling them bird men for simplicity
Maiasaurus the "Good Mother Dinosaur" being this world's Mother Nature is super fitting and amazing world building. I love these details.
Maiasaura (not Maiasaurus, since it is a female gendered name) is named after Maia, eldest of the nymphs of Pleiades, mother of Hermes and nurse to Arcas, the son of Callisto. In Roman tradition she become even more associated with the role of nurturing mother. Hence the typical "short hand" translation of Maiasaura as "good mother lizard".
I thought maia was the name of the kid that died
@@slyfox7452 nah they don't name the child in the video, just the earth goddess
This series is phenomenal. The creatures aren't treated like movie monsters. They act like actual animals even if they are supposed to be the villains.
Yooo whaz up
Everywhere I go I see This Guy Chadgorosaurus4898 is Always Everywhere Even in Dinosaur Videos OOF!!!
@@deinsnicole everywhere i go i se his face
I always appreciate the stylized but realistic look of the dinosaurs!

Didn't expect to cry over a dinosaur begging forgiveness for killing the beast that took his son, but here we are.
Good job as always David
Me too.
I love the accuracy of the Saber's killing methodology. The detail is unparalleled. Thank you for this art.
True !
That is pretty rarely shown in animation
That genuine panic in his voice when the Sabre tooth was dying legitimately brought a tear to my eye. That may very well be the most impactful part of this series so far. Very good work as per usual
Yoohoo one of the first recent paleo based shows where the saber toothed cat isn’t just casually killed off for meaningless plot convenience
Not to mention instead of a hunter being driven by revenge, he understand that the beast that slayed his son was just an animal, with no concept of malice or vengeance but simply doing what they had to survive
@@garg4531 But still clouded by his grief enough to make a mistake. It was very good.
@@rumpeltyltskyn exactly smilodon is a formidable apex predator and should be treated as one imo idk if it’s me just because smilodon is my favorite animal but I feel like they are portrayed as pushovers in recent paleo based media far too often such as in Primal, La Brea, and Camp Cretaceous just to name a few all the while most other prehistoric creature got more less special treatment (tbf no creature had any kind of special treatment in primal even the main protagonist wasn’t immune from comedically dying 💀)
@@ultimate_animal_showdown Smilodon is one of my favorites too. And I was glad to see it in Camp Cretaceous but its inclusion was kinda, bland. Wish they did more with it.
@@ultimate_animal_showdowni mean in primal the smilodon killed off spear's dad which should be a feat as he was supposed to be near unstoppable and victory was needed to explain why spear is this powerful the night feeder is a monster so it is not something we should take into account overall i agree with you
Crying over parental loss was not on my bingo card today. Great work!
I became speechless over the baby mammoth too
Haunting and yet beautiful through-out.
I know right...
First Primal, now this.
I definitely didn't cry... someone spat in my eyes or something.
4:42 The way his finger catches on the figurine makes the scene so REAL. I had to rewind it because I thought I saw something wrong.
This is simply indescribably incomparable! Beautiful graphics, rich plot...
I would especially like to note that this film breaks two plot clichés that are present in all films with lizardmen. The first is that there is no friendship between reptilians and mammals, only mutual hatred. And the second is that the majority of Saurians are devoid of valor, honor and nobility. Only cold reptilian rage and cruelty.
I also want to note that in the scenes with the mammoths there is a distinct “Easter egg” to “Primal”. This is the broken tusk of the female leader, and the scene near the dead calf.
I definitely like this masterpiece
You mean Primal.
@@t-r-e-x452 Yes, sure
Omg you're right!!
Is it weird to feel nostalgic over seeing some of the Dinosauria characters again? The Trodon just standing there makes me feel good
Ur not alone bud😊
YES
Or The Nanuqsaurus
Nah, I think that's completely normal. Like seeing an old friend.
Broo i just had a theory. It's *VERY* unlikely but hear me out. Soo remember the last Troodon Chick? What if that's the same Troodon Chick but all grown up? I know it's VERY unlikely but it would be cool if it was real
We making it out of the Solaris deserts with this one boys!!!
.
Ye :)
I be love that people can make lore jokes like that now.
I love the detail of their goddess being named Maia, the namesake of Maiasaura. This one blew me away, genuinely a beautiful film
I love the fact that he doesn't blame the animal that killed his child, and knows it's just the animal eating. Honestly, so much of the time in movies when a person's child is taken by an animal they blame and go out to kill that animal. I understand that it's grief, but I'm glad you touched on the fact that the animal is just eating whatever it can get, just like the rest of us :) love your films.
The dilating pupil during the last breath! Wow. That's attention to detail. Well done.
I KNOOOOOWWW *-*
The slow rejection of life and friendship to the reembracement of it... Beautiful.
This is what Brother bear's vibe would have been if it kept the mature atmosphere during the whole movie! (And if it had dinosaurs of course). Absolutely love it.
11:24 Seeing the Saber-tooth cat on the floor, with labored breathing, staring at its killer, has me shedding tears.
This is the most emotional short you have ever made. Speechless when the Mammoth calf was killed, and heartbroken when I saw the mother cat taking her final breaths with her child coming in reminds me of Brother Bear where Kenai realizes he killed Koda's mom.
Did the Mammoth calf die? Wasn't it the same calf we saw at the end? Elephants age slowly, so I'm assuming Mammoths also age slowly.
@@Mailed-Knightyeah it def did, why would you just lay down acting dead while going on a trip
@@Baneineiwardisreal I thought collapsed from exhaustion or something.
@@Mailed-Knightat 7:05 why would a mammoth calf be lying on the snow covered ground like this? It’s whole herd is surrounding it. Definitely dead😢
For me a more ancient spring is the best at emotional level but everyone have an own opinion.
Such incredible story telling…
I love the subtle details, like his reaction to the smaller bow giving a clear implication, as well as the implication that mammals arrive when dinosaurs leave to avoid competition and because they’re better adopted to the cold
And I already loved the ending but then I got the reveal and I was not only taken by surprise, I actually *cried* from the emotions it gave….
Such a satisfying ending!
That’s what I was thinking too. It seems that megaloceros (the deer looking animals) summer further north and then migrate to the icy forest regions to overwinter, and the dinosaurs (with the exception of troodon and nanuqsaurus) migrate north during the spring and summer and overwinter in the southern regions
With regards to the bow... "Show don't tell" perfectly excecuted.
@@funeralgothatoo5814 I could tell immediately the one who passed was a child because the bow was so small. It was heartbreaking
@@theotheseaeagle It's really clever and makes a lot of sense since dinosaurs lay eggs, which aren't great in winter regions. Most would probably prefer to be somewhere warmer during the winter so they have more options of when to lay.
He's a very interesting character, with a sad backstory... It was very emotional
Yes. It was.
Oh God I'm weeping! The guilt he feels for letting his anger take another life, the raspy pain filled breaths, the fear in her eyes, the sadness in the child, it's all so beautifully and heart wrenchingly done ❤
11:37 The way he starts panicking and pleading tho
Started tearing up. David, you are incredibly skilled and talented in many forms of art!!!
from the first time we see the main character we learn a lot from his first line and I love the fact after he killed the cat out of grief and he relised what he's done and apologized and takes care of it's child was amazing 20/10
Thank you for making videos, dude. Last year, I switched from wanting to be a paleontologist to a filmmaker and recently finished college and am now working on my first screenplay. I was worried when you dissappear off the face of the earth, but now that you're back, im happy to see you are still doing amazing work and telling unimaginable stories. I hope you have a good day, stay safe and stay healthy.
Yoo GL on your first screenplay dude
atb for ur screenplay!
@lonesome3958 thanx, I'm almost finished with it. My big goal is that I become the "Kevin Fiege" of the Legendary Pictures Monsterverse series. I love Godzilla, Kong, and I have so many cool ideas for films, books, TV shows, comics, and more o want to share with the world!
David James Armsby will be like "Im not that good at sound design and I don't enjoy doing it" and then make you listen to the most harrowing, heart gripping sound design ever concieved
I mean, holy hell dude the breathing at 11:22 is goddamn scary for me. It makes me instincively imagine that painful, dry, bloody feeling in the throat the character is feeling, and that's gut-wrenching. I hate it and love it at the same time
Fun fact; I recorded that sound myself while heavily sick with the flu. That sound is genuine pain.
@@DeadSound Now that's the dedication we all admire around here :))
As soon as the father gets his revenge, he's immediately remorseful and begs the smilodon not to go. Whatever hate he felt just vanished and he wanted to reverse it. Regret is such a scary emotion. Damn this feels so somber and aching. Excellent work. 🤘🏾☮️🦖
I loved this one so much.
God I cried when he was like "No no no please... I'm sorry!" after realizing what he did.
Honestly I think your blue rex guy is my new favorite character of yours.
The Sabertooth tigers are so precious
Smilodon is more correct
@@canonbehenna612 Well they are precious as well :)
@@canonbehenna612Common name vs scientific. Both are valid.

@@canonbehenna612I know that alright 👉👉
Finally, the second episode is here and was totally worth it, just look how deep the story is, revenge, loss and mourning, sometime we are blinded by the rage, and once we are done we see that our "enemy" and us had a lot in common, actually, "Winter Weathered" reminds a lot of "Brother Bear", oh, just amazing, James, mis felicitaciones.
The touching story of a dragonborn ranger and his beast companion.
Oh that ending. He buried the mother too. Oh I have tears in my eyes! ❤😭
This was the most beautiful of the Sauria films yet! That seasonal montage with the mating Nanuqsaurus, the mammoth funeral, and the Smilodon cub all got me. Two souls united in grief and the urge to keep persisting. This is probably my favorite one yet.
This comes right after another D&D session of mine, with a similar bond and setting featured, so even the timing is perfect! I look forward to the behind the scenes video!
I love this one, the twist towards the end was awe inspiring.
The hunter, a father who lost his son, became a father once again. This was so well crafted and I await the next episode whenever that appears.
I love this setup you've done with the main character! To devote his entire life to the way of hunting and killing only what was needed, claiming to not hold any grudge against the creature who took his son, only to forget about his entire oath in the moment out of pure craving for revenge and to feel the weight of his near unforgivable sin, MY GOD I CAN'T. SOMEBODY GIVE THIS MAN AN ENTIRE TV SHOW JESUS PLEASE!
This is absolutel epiciness!!! Fantastic job as always!!!
Loved the return of "Our Frozen Past" characters and the new models for the mammoths and Smilodon!! That one scene with the mammoth herd mourning the loss of the calf really got me sad as mammoths are one of my favourite extinct animals
This was incredible! I love the use of prehistoric mammals in this. It’s always great when ancient megafauna can be included in something. Great work!
Thank you very much. We love your art and empathy. Thank you for watching on a Friday evening in bohemian forest. Hugs !
It’s the tv series I never got but always wanted…
IT HERE!!!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥

LET'S GO
I loved this so much. I loved the story, how we see a Saurian with honor and valor and no real bloodlust, and when he does feel it he feels guilt.
I love how clear it is how this man lives. He takes only what he needs to survive and tries not to feel vengeance, like an animal. The religion he follows obviously values life but does not blame others for taking what they need.
I love how the message of animals killing for food is so driven home. Like how the sabertooth killed the man's son because he needed to and not because he wanted to torment the man or whatever. I love how the man sees himself as sinful for killing what was not needed and atoned by taking care of the son of the sabertooth.
I love how CUTE ALL THE BABIES ARE!!!!
Ugh, and I have so many questions!! Like why was there a statue of a different Saurian (a pterosaur?) by the entrance of the sabertooth cave??? I can't wait for the lore video on this!!!!
I would pay top dollar to see this made into a fully fledged series. the story is amazing. characters are awesome. Never stop doing what you do

Dinosaur: "Winter is comi... Oh sh..., it's already here!! RUN!!!"
And here i thought i had to wait for months to see this piece of absolute art.
"Winter Weathered" actually helped me deal with my grief after the recent and sudden loss of my cat. I really liked the more mature and considerate theme of this one, and especially how grief and loss are depicted in a very relatable and realistic way. In my opinion this is a huge level-up from "Blood For Blood".
The short films you create are nothing less than masterpieces
I think I even stopped breathing for a moment during this
This is amazing. How you give the dinosaurs a realistic color palette with what's been established to be their natural hues.
I love dinosaurs. Always have, probably always will. Your films are an absolutely stunning presentation that gets the imagination running wild! I can't wait to see what's next and I'm only hopeful you're enjoying creating these as well!! Thank you for letting us continue to see your work and the incredible world of Sauria!
That smilo’s death scene was SPINE CHILLING
Wow, I really love this story. I really hope we see more of this character because he is just awesome. I like how he’s in the middle like he’s not part of the brutes but he’s not part of the smart ones either.

Went from smiling about the Trodon cameo to crying at around the 11:40 mark... this film was so beautiful and emotional, well done, and well worth the wait
Fun fact: the megaloceros (the big elk) in this is actually colored like the real animal. We know how they look from cave paintings.
Aside from the amazing animation, the voice actor really did a superb job! I can feel his regret and anguish after killing the Mother. I love this! Looking forward for more!

This was amazing to watch. It didn't feel like 16 minutes went by, it was so well animated, rendered, etc. Congratulations on releasing a project of this scale.
The Oviraptor is an excellent reference, can't wait for the 'making of' video to see what I missed; truely beautiful.
It’s one of my favorite films you’ve made.
Felt those feelings in BG3, when I took the owlbear cub
What an emotional rollercoaster this was! Great film of a parent's love and the grief over the loss of children and parent alike!
I just realised he painted his son's symbol onto the cub's shoulder. That's amazing!
Sobbing, what a beautiful story of tragedy, grief, vengeance and hope. Absolutely breathtaking! I loved it! Probably your best film yet!
I think this is my favorite so far. Already loved Blood for Blood but this one hit different. Can't wait for some more lore about this guy and his kind.
My favourite character of this series so far!!
That stuff could make a grown man cry but not today tears
Aw yes the classic dinosaurs mixed with the Ice Age trope, gotta love it
I'm not crying...YOU ARE CRYING!
Ah yes. My favorite character.
The ✨~Depressed Dad~✨
Absolutely astounding. You had me clinging to every scene, eagerly awaiting what was going to happen next. I love how you depict the intelligence of these animals, the scarred mammoth especially. I love how you've crafted this polar Saurian and his philosophy, and you can really feel the weight of his emotions. The callbacks to Dinosauria were also beautiful nostalgia. And of course, Ivan's score accentuated every scene wonderfully.
I loved this short film. It was quite an improvement over the last one, and the way you animated the snow seemed like an improvement over the way you animated it in „Our Frozen Past”.
Also, the saber-tooth cub was adorable.
GREAT VIDEO!!! I'm definitely getting Primal (Genndy Tartakovsky's) vibes from your SAURIA series. It was also nice to see some familiar creatures (i.e. Parasaurolophus, Nanuqsaurus & the Arctic Troodontid) along with some new ones (Megaloceros, Mammuthus, Smilodon, etc.)
I am blown away. Your work is incredible, awe inspiring.
16 minutes? Oh my... This is going to be an incredible experience
I love this man. He gives me goosebumps.!
I have no words. The characters, the themes, the details in the animation, all of it left me speechless.
It's a simple story. It's such a simple storyline done SO WELL and executed SO BEAUTIFULLY. The saber tooth encounter from start to finish had me chilled. Those last moments with the mother was unbelievably poignant, and beautifully heartbreaking. You can hear the desperatation yet sincerity in his promise to make up to the mother, yet the true tragedy lies in the ambiguity and uncertainty of what the mother's last thoughts were before she laid still.
How DeadSound keeps punching out masterpiece after masterpiece, I can't even fathom. And I want him to have triple the amount of recognition for all his hard work.
The animation for Helionyx's facial expressions coupled with your amazing delivery makes this film so much more of an emotional experience!
Absolutely fantastic, cannot wait to see the process tomorrow.
I would kill to have an RTS game set in this. What you created mate is truly amazing.
I love everything about this film. The story, the characters, the symbolism, the themes, the depth, the lesson, and the message it gave. I have been waiting for this ever since the trailer came along. I hope to see more of Sauria's films and videos. I love this film.
This animation Sauria is very good i watched. By directing various scenes and building the mood of the saurian and the creatures in the snow. Whether it's a dinosaur and mammals It was all done well. 10/10

This is absolutely outstanding; the storytelling’s both emotional and heartwarming and the animation is beyond great. I say it’s definitely one of your best works Dead Sound.
Amazing work! This might be my favorite so far. I love that the hunter is still aware that animals are just that. The voicework is also very good.
