Mad respect for showing this level of vulnerability. I look forward to reviewing more of your content. If you’re ever in Southern Cal, let’s do lunch. Take care my friend.

    Stages of watching Hi Ren:
    This looks creepy
    Guitar sounds nice
    Oh he’s singing
Will the whole song be like this?
    Here’s the beat
    Ok he’s rapping now
    This guy is scary
    Now he seems nice
Oh I see what he’s doing
    This is interesting
    This is intense
The mean guy is a jerk
    This is INTENSE
    Make it stop
I haven’t blinked or taken a breath in 2 minutes
    Go Ren!
    YES!
    OOO-OO-OO-OO-OO-..
I need some time to be still…

and the final stage: must go watch every reactor I can find, so I can try to capture that feeling of the first time again. this is my new additiction. I don't even always watch them, I listen while I do other things.

I've been a fan of Jethro Tull since the early 70s, and I've always considered Ian Anderson the greatest all-around musical genius on earth. Nobody else has even come close... UNTIL NOW.

@@workingit3055 Agree, Ren is 100% unique... and uniquely talented. His incredible acting ability doesn't get enough attention if you ask me. I'd rank him way up near the top among actors too, even though he's not technically one. And I agree with the others you mentioned, as far as their talent and influence... BUT Ren is on a whole other level (yes, even considering Jimi).
But here, since you said you don't know much about Jethro Tull (the band), or Ian Anderson (their "front man"), here's a couple things to get you started if you're interested. (And not coincidentally, Ian has himself been referred to as a modern-day minstrel, and hopefully Ren is now ready to carry the torch forward.)

At the start of the song - larryshair- "I have to learn how to play this song."
Me - "Playing it is one thing, performing it is another thing entirely."
That last verse has some of the most powerful lyrics ever:
So cower at the man I've become
When I sing from the top of my lungs
That I won't retire I'll stand in your fire
Inspire the weak to be strong
And when I am gone I will rise
In the music that I left behind
    Ferocious persistent, immortal like you
We're a coin with two different sides

Thank you so much for your attention to this performance. It's so important. Ren has done so much to awaken people to illness of all types, any illness can do terrible things to our minds. I had been watching Ren for awhile, then a couple days ago I got a phone call from my brother's lady friend that he is now in hospice care in memory care facility. He has dementia and has progressed to a terrible state and it's not looking good for him, he is 83 now. My mother died in her 80's with complications of Alzheimer's. A terrible terrible mind issue.
More music by Ren, songs that wake us up, and help to realize that our time on this earth is not a guarantee to many many years of health and happiness, although we do strive for it. We do what we can and hope for the best and just keep pushing that demon in our minds away, or the walking demons among us that want to destroy us, we just need to keep them all away when we have those moments of despair. I will be 74 next month, I am struggling myself with health issues, medication now to keep my heart beating properly, constant and daily thoughts of "am I doing enough" to last another 10 years?!

The name Ren has a depper meaning. The Meaning of Ren in Confucianism
The core thought of Confucianism is Ren, but what is the meaning of Ren?
Ren (or Rén) is the Confucian virtue denoting the good feeling a virtuous human experiences when being altruistic. Ren is exemplified by a normal adult's protective feelings for children. It is considered the inward expression of Confucian ideals.
Yan Hui, Confucius's most outstanding student, once asked his master to describe the rules of Rén and Confucius replied, "One should see nothing improper, hear nothing improper, say nothing improper, do nothing improper." Confucius also defined Rén in the following way: "wishing to be established himself, seeks also to establish others; wishing to be enlarged himself, he seeks also to enlarge others." Another meaning of Rén is "not to do to others as you would not wish done to yourself." Confucius also said, "Rén is not far off; he who seeks it has already found it." Rén is close to man and never leaves him.
    Nature of Rén
Rén relies heavily on the relationships between two people, but at the same time encompasses much more than that. It represents an inner development towards an altruistic goal, while simultaneously realizing that one is never alone, and that everyone has these relationships to fall back on, being a member of a family, the state, and the world.
Rén is not a concept that is learned; it is innate, that is to say, everyone is born with the sense of Rén. Confucius believed that the key to long-lasting integrity was to constantly think, since the world is continually changing at a rapid pace.
There have been a variety of definitions for the term Rén. Rén has been translated as "benevolence", "perfect virtue", "goodness" or even "human-heartedness". When asked, Confucius defined it by the ordinary Chinese word for love, ai, saying that it meant to "love others".
Rén also has a political dimension. Confucianism says that if the ruler lacks Rén, it will be difficult for his subjects to behave humanely. Rén is the basis of Confucian political theory; the ruler is exhorted to refrain from acting inhumanely towards his subjects. An inhumane ruler runs the risk of losing the Mandate of Heaven or, in other words, the right to rule. A ruler lacking such a mandate need not be obeyed, but a ruler who reigns humanely and takes care of the people is to be obeyed, for the benevolence of his dominion shows that he has been mandated by heaven. Confucius himself had little to say on the active will of the people, though he believed the ruler should definitely pay attention to the wants and needs of the people and take good care of them. Mencius, however, did state that the people's opinion on certain weighty matters should be polled.
Rén also includes traits that are a part of being righteous, such as hsin, meaning to make one's words compliment his actions; li, which means to properly participate in everyday rituals; ching, or "seriousness"; and yi, which means right action. When all these qualities are present, then one can truly be identified as a chün tzu (君子), or "superior man," which means a morally superior human being. Confucians basically held the view that government should be run by ethically superior human beings who concentrate solely on the welfare of the people they govern

we really gotta talk about the way he makes a classical guitar with nylon do whatever he wanted it to. He played it soft and he played it hard, played it slow and fast, picked it, strummed it, did majors, did minors, did chords that made sense and some that didn’t, and just whipped hell out of it at the end harder than most metal bands with a superfuzz big muff pedal through a Marshall stack. Like what?

The line, "I've been sick half my life," is a reference to his diagnosis with Lyme disease at 17, followed by several miadiagnoses that led to him becoming even more I'll with autoimmune disease and Lyme psychosis. Constant pain, fatigue, and food sensitivities that limited his diet so much he became malnourished. When he made this video, he was so sick he thought he would die. Stem cell treatments brought recovery but he has relapsed a couple of months ago. Now he is in Canada for at least six months getting daily IV treatments, a dental surgery and more. He made a lot of music as he realized he was getting sicker, and he promises more music to come. But he speaks out now for others with chronic illness and about how there's more funding for male pattern baldness cure than illnesses like Lyme, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Erlos Danler (not sure of the spelling) and more. He is wise and has experienced pain and despair that many people will never know. I respected him even more after hearing him share his story, if that were even possible.

So I'm pretty sure the 'she sells sea shells' jab Evil gave Ren was a reference to his _Money Game Pt. 2_ which he released back in 2020 (which is an AMAZING lyric video, btw). Ren does a lot of referencing of his other works in his songs, bringing even more emotions in for us as a reference to a cherished Ren song will definitely bring a smile. One example is his Beasty Boys tribute, _What You Want_ - but there are many others. The Ren Rabbit Hole is deep, twisty and occasionally very, very dark.

Yep had to sub! His band The Big Push did amazing live covers of Black Sabbath's "War Pigs" and Bob Marley's "I shot the Sheriff"
With this one Ren did it live in one take and this was the 4th time. Alot of his music is live. I love he's posing two different riffs on different areas of the fretboard for each of the voices in his head. It's another added element that someone else writing a song like this wouldn't think to do but it adds so much more depth. He has another one called "Chalk Outlines featuring Chinchilla" and its absolutely beautiful their voices together and the lyrics are so relatable to so many of us.

Would just like to note, since you appreciate real talent, that he's wearing a lapel mic. This entire track is one take, live. Guitar and vocals.
It's been a while since I've seen a real musician perform, to the point where I almost forgot what it looked and felt like, so I appreciate every shred of this song for the genius it is, but also just him as an artist for taking the FULL leap into just being himself, fuck the consequences, and then backing that up with the unseen labor of mastering not just one but half a dozen instruments, on top of singing, song-writing AND rapping.

First time visiting your channel. Like your reaction. 58 Former Army Major. Spent the 90s on tours and missions. Those days PTSD was hardly recognized and treatment rare. I too thought it to be life experiances I had to deal - and learn to live - with. Got divorced and isolated ever more in the years that followed. In 2013 I burnt out battling the PTSD and depression and has basicly been bedridden since. Ren is sort of a revelation to me so I've gone down the rabbit hole and I deeply appriciate the art he makes. Truely a modern day bard. Now I´m a Bardcore - fan !
