Most of us probably found this video almost randomly just over a year ago. It gave many of us a tremendous wake up slap. Many of our lives were different after this.
Then we spent the past year watching Ren develop as a musician, as a human and for many of us, as a teacher, a voice for all of us. After all, he is one of us.

Hi! New subscriber to witness your exploration of all that is Ren. I've watched your four reaction videos. I always enjoy witnessing a newcomer to Ren as they deepen in respect and admiration for both his gifts and humanity.
There are tons of videos on TH-cam of Ren dating back to his first band as a young man as well as live performances you can watch to see his development as both an artist and human being.
I think you would deeply appreciate his trilogy 'The Tale of Jenny and Screech' and 'Violet's Tale' (the full version of all three together). It demonstrates his phenomenal storytelling abilities, guitar playing, and vocal agility. I'd love watching your reactions to it!🙋‍♀️💖

One of the MAIN reasons I love Ren is because he truly is genuine! Through his music, interviews, social media posts and live streams (which if you catch one, usually done after he drops his OG music is SO FUN), he's the same human. He's just real, genuine and refreshing in today's society. Add in his talent to have music for every genre or mood I'm in... Us Renegades are happy you're here, and I'll agree with previous comments that his 1 Million Follower Speech is SO TOTALLY WORTH WATCHING! Ren is agnostic, but in his search for healing he has tried (and failed) to embrace various religions and belief-systems. He's also said that he 'likes the imagery of Christianity'. If you're interested in the rest of his journey into religion then you need to watch 'Eden', a message which he added as an Easter egg at the end of the Money Game treasure hunt! I really appreciate your reactions as well as being open minded enough to see his music through a different lens. Ren has been through an extraordinary amount of physical pain in his life, for many years from undiagnosed lyme disease which caused many psychological problems as well including a short period of psychosis. A stem cell transplant in 2016 /2017 allowed him to perform and make music again. He is still trying to treat the physical effects from this. He's been in Canada for more than a year now getting specialized treatment at the same time consistently putting out music. This is a short version of his life.

The part that gets to me every time is the line "I'm the voice that you hear when you loosen the noose on the robe" always makes me tear up. It's that unknown silent voice that intuition that stops us from ending ourselves. I may have 'heard' it a few times in my lifetime on those darkest days. I will be 75 years old this month. I never ever thought I would still be here, but I am. I am not religious, raised a christian faith from young age, to agnostic and now an atheist. It was a long progression, but I am now in a more stable place, from what I learned growing up and from my life experiences, has my feet and brain on more solid ground, although there are days that some outside forces still try to send me back into the dark places. This performance by Ren was my life! The creation of a god or deity was manifest by humans. They/we/needed something or someone to help us know how we got here. Why are we here? What is our purpose? God or supreme being the creator is a myth, a fantasy. Stories and books written and spoken over the ages from various locations and peoples on this planet have various versions they pass down over generations, then embellished and made bigger and more fantastical that it must be true, a being from where? what form has started all this and made us into these crazed evil people or humane, generous and loving people? Many believe in a life after death, and if righteous they will be with god. Who am I to judge or know for certain? I believe what I understand, what I feel, I let others think their own way with their faith or learned over their lifetimes. I lean more to the scientific, learned, archeological side of things. I don't know personally any human that has passed away and came back to life to tell me what is on the other side, many have tried to pass off their "knowing", so I will use my own imagination, for now. Anyway, I want to add, thank you for this reaction.

Here we go!! Ren is such a relatable voice. He is providing us comfort by showing us that we are not alone, and he is inspiring us to keep dancing and reminding us that it is okay to not be perfect because it is human.
As you have already glimpsed from your entry into the rabbit hole, this masterpiece is just the tip of the iceberg. I think RENegades have filled you in on his backstory with Lyme disease and misdiagnosis for years? Sick Boi is a great track for insight into his frustrations with the health industry (and the world in general). I also highly recommend checking out one of my personal favourites: Crutch feat. Bibi. It’s an older song from before Ren was finally correctly diagnosed and was written after a breakdown following multiple emergency trips to the hospital. It is heart wrenching and stunning.
Also if you want to understand the man behind the art (and why we all love him so dearly), check out his 1m subscribers video on defining success. Ren is not just a brilliant artist but a genuinely good human being who wants to inspire positive change in the world.
Hope to see you deep down the Ren rabbit hole with the rest of us 🐰🕳️

I suggest songs like Humble, Hold On, Ready for you, Murderer and Love Music 2 or 3 for catchy vocals. For more hip hop, I suggest genesis, power, the hunger, and what you want. For deep, heavy, and haunting, go for Chalk outlines (live), How to be me (live), Diazepam, Dominoes. For theatrical bard brilliance (but very heavy and dark social commentary about societal ills) go for the tales of Jenny and screech (13 minute version). This is live one take vocally and spliced from 4 visually 🖤
    Ren is agnostic.
Angels are all good, demons all bad, gods all powerful. We are a mix of them all.
People don’t understand why we are so passionate about Ren until they go down the rabbit hole. He’s not “just” a singer, rapper, musician, artist. He’s an incredible human being. My take on “angels, demons and gods” is that angels represent aspirations, demons faults and gods infallibility. And the point he was making is that as humans we must remember that we are not perfect, and once you accept that, you will learn that while its good to aspire to be better, to have goals, we may also have faults that may make reaching our goals seem impossible. And not to curse those faults, but to embrace them, and learn from them, which will enable us to possibly find a different path to reach those aspirations - or set goals that are a bit more realistic.

Ren has🔥 lyrics when he’s got something to say, so I was hoping you’d make it to a heavier original lyric song. I think you’ll really enjoy his Money Game series (trilogy) and Seven Sins. He’s agnostic to answer your question - said he enjoys the stories, he just doesn’t follow any particular religion personally. Just a heads up, closed captions are almost never accurate for his lyrics, but he’ll pin them in the comment section sometimes.

I heard him say once that his 'interest' in religion started when he was very ill, experiencing almost hallucinations. He believed only a demon could be causing so much pain and suffering.
It led him to research pretty much every religion, in search of answers for why he was going through what he was going through. Like, why would any God allow anyone to go through that suffering?
But yes, even after all that research, he is agnostic, but does believe (or wants to believe) there must be some kind of higher power.

Ren's fans are all ages and races.
I am 55 and I've never been a rap fan. The first time I saw Hi Ren I cried.
See I, like Ren, have a chronic illness. Because of that he speaks for those like me. First time I saw Hi Ren I felt seen.
Then I saw Seven Sins and yes I felt pain like he described. It made me realize Ren went through similar experiences I did .
I know I sound like a fangirl but for those unheard and unseen Ren is adored.

There is no "wrong place to start" with Ren. That said, A LOT of us found him with this song. You will find that most of his songs have levels and layers that you can revisit multiple times... and you'll still have more layers to discover.

great reaction dude! ren is definitely something different and brought back my enthusiasm for music after years of hearing only factory made bullshit in the mainstream music industry. and rens story is something he can write about for years covering different aspects of it. what we have to remember is ren is still pretty ill (although at least now has a diagnosis and is getting treatment to solve at least some of his issues), but what that means is what we are getting now is what a sick ren can do.... if and when he gets better then that opens up what we can get from a healthy ren!!! im excited!

I think we can all relate to this in our own way and the monologue at the end is so true for me personally in the sense of living with severe depression it is cyclical, the pendulum swinging and the acceptance it will never go away so during the blackest of days you know it’s only temporary and things will eventually improve but on the best of days knowing the dark times will return but being ok with that

I don’t think there is any right or wrong way to start with Ren but this sure is an important piece and also the song that has made him reach a broader audience as an artist. Great reaction!
This song really hit home when I first heard it. I had more or less given up on the music industry and was expecting to keep listening to music from back in the day (60's-90's).
I heard this one during a lunch break at work (february last year) and went home and told my girlfriend that I had heard the best song this side of the millenium. She is a fan as well now.
To my surprise it turned out it wasn't just a fluke. Ren wasn't a one hit wonder. His back catalog was filled with amazing songs and performances.
Ren has made some interviews with other TH-cam reactors that I would recommend watching. He is such a well spoken and passionate human being.

    Keep up the good work.

Ren is rapidly becoming a voice for the voiceless within the mental health community. It's so good to see someone really reach out in a new way. He's so opened about his struggles. Not many will ever know the courage it must take to be that naked publicly. I don't see him getting mentioned nearly enough for his song called Dear God but it goes to another level of rawness. Sorry if I rambled.

17:50 „The man’s life is devoted to art” is so true and yet falls short of the truth at the same time. I watched interviews with him and came to the conclusion that his life *is* art. His struggles with health and life were always an essential part of Ren from very early on and so was his interest and dedication to music. What I feel, when I listen to Ren is that health issues and music became intertwined within him. Being unable to do so many things and finding his ability to express himself with sounds and music are integral to what he is. I believe that the videography is as much of a skill as his music itself, playing into that authentic expression of his experiences and feelings and his view on the things that really matter to him.
Ren is an amazing person and a great enrichment to the community of music and video artists, showing that authenticity is a powerful and valuable asset for anyone, who wants to move people’s minds and hearts by art.

The first time I heard this, I felt like I'd been punched; I started to think about all the times I talked myself out of doing something, because I wasn't good enough, not original enough, success too unlikely. I wish I'd heard this when I was still young, instead of taking up new crafts, new fields of study, a new instrument, when I'm ready to retire! I didn't realize how common it is for creative people to feel such negativity from their own brains.

I will never get tired of watching the moments when a new reactor starts to feel the profound effects of Ren. Before I was sent the link to “Hi Ren” by a friend, I had never heard of him. I was in a very dark place at the time and my friend insisted that I watch the video. I must have watched it over and over again for an entire day before I discovered what reaction channels were. For weeks I spent the majority of my time watching people from different walks of life’s reacting to Hi Ren. It literally changed my life. I’m 38 , old school , and resisted the age of social media platforms because I felt it was contributing to human isolation and unrealistic expectations. Although I do still have some of the same concerns, after watching hundreds of reactions to this masterpiece, ironically,I have never felt more connected to the human race. This artist creates so much more than music. He speaks about the issues that are silenced by mainstream platforms and has inspired many people to either share their experiences or remain silent but now with a sense of community and support. You should watch “The Tale of Jenny & Screech” next! The “sick boi” … then “ The hunger”…. I’m happy to help you navigate through this rabbit crater… welcome to the family!✊🏼🤟🏼🤟🏼

This took all night to film in his mates basement and the landlord was not impressed ! lol so they had to rush a bit towards the end. Exactly. Secular, spiritual, or religious it all works and is relatable. Why all of RENagades live Ren we can relate and empathize with what he has gone through with his illness. We all appreciate his vulnerable with his chronic illness and the pain he has gone through.
As someone who has chronic illness (diabetes type 2 with polyneuropathy in my feet and hands) I felt acknowledged and seen for the first time. Ren’s chronic illness (Ren is dealing with undiagnosed Lyme disease and it effects) is not the same as mine. But he has felt the pain and is dealing neuropathy as myself have. Of course, with so much more. We all respect Ren, what he has gone through, and of course his art.
Don’t apologize for hearing other Ren song, flows, or performances first but this Hi Ren like an introduction and business card of who Ren is. There is plenty before this was released but this helps with a lens of understanding yo appreciation his work his art previously or aft is this video posted.
Ren does a lot of 1 take type performances both in his videos and from his busking days. And when one has multiple edited takes is fairly seamless. Four takes for this one they used they used fourth take for the music performance and the 3rd take for the monologue and the end. Thank you for your reaction and analysis which was wonderful.

I'm sure someone has mentioned it already, but just in case, if you'd like to learn about his thoughts on spirituality, check out his video titled "Eden". It's not a song at all, rather a monologue of his thoughts. It was the final act of his week long promotional scavenger hunt that he did on approach to the release of the Sick Boi album, which to provide a little context, was centered around the theme of the seven deadly sins, one puzzle for each day/sin, that culminated in the coordinates of a cash prize, which was livestreamed, and concluded with the playing of Eden. "Seven Sins", his opening track to that album is also absolutely worth a watch, so i'd also recommend checking that out at some point, but no rush. I think with that one, it would actually serve you better to be more familiar to his work and message before you dive in, but it's by no means a requirement to enjoy it, and not meant to discourage you from listening in the slightest.

The thing about Ren being so open and upfront, and then in your face about things, that is exactly why he has such an amazing following who love him dearly. He gave so many of us, our voice, when we didn’t know how to express ourselves when we didn’t have the words and all of a sudden here comes Ren who perfectly speaks what we went through or what we’re going through and it has allowed us to be able to communicate our truth. I’m not saying that all of his fans feel this way, but I’m willing to bet a huge portion love him for this exact reason. He is so authentic and can pull someone out of such dark places. Symphony of Spirit! You touched on a point and came closer to describing it than anyone else i've seen in the past year! Then you missed the example you were looking for, lol. When Ren Yodels at the beginning of the song, it is simplistic, as is his guitar playing. The chords, as you noted are strained for each character he is portraying, but when he Yodels the second time the brakes come off and he is playing full body! It's a celebration and it all comes together, you can hear everything you were hearing before, but all at the same time and that Symphony of Spirit is something we all feel from the inside out. Welcome to the wonderful world of Ren my friend!
