Glad to see you back home in Thailand, Les. You have a wonderful life in Thailand and living the dream of many retirees. The true contrast between your home country and your current home in Thailand reflects your correct decision in living your remaining years in Thailand with your beautiful wife. Wishing you and your wife all the best and have a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year!

Its expensive because the pound is so low because inflation is so high because we have huge debts.Good luck to you though , I don’t blame you at all.I am happy on the Cornish coast which is not too cold.
The north east is just devastated now , in fact most of the north is I am sad to say.
I am from Durham but have not been back for 20 years because it makes me so sad.People seem to be in a trance because they watched all this happen and did nothing so it’s cause and effect.Allowing governments to grow debt will impoverish you.

The UK has really gone down the tubes: ridiculous cost of living, crap weather (I like to exercise outdoors, forget about that 8 months a year), miserable people, woke nonsense permeating throughout every institution, people just surviving not thriving.
In Thailand, I live in a spacious 4-bed house, spacious moohbahn with its own large park and swimming pool, wide roads, sun and warmth all year, friendly people, exercise outdoors all year round, great food. Call me simple, but these things keep me happy.

Woke nonsense?oh dear, somebody has been reading too much DExpress/DMail ..what is wrong with thinking that what you say/do might be offensive to others?of course there are excesses but that doesnt negate the idea itself.Dont be sucked in the Cons culture wars,if you are living in the UK,its just a means of distracting people from the real issues-system collapsing because of their endless austerity,Brexit which has impoverished the country both financially and in terms of opportunities etc etc...just a means of divide and conquer as they have nothing else,no vision for improving society only their own ,and their donors etc, bank balances.

@@robertosborne7542 I hope you enjoy your life wherever you are (genuinely). If you enjoy living in the UK, more power to you. We are all different. I happen to think the UK has lost the plot, and I can compare recent years to late 70s/80s/90s. But to you, you see all of this as positive progress, and enjoy living there. We are respectively where we want to be. 👍

@@farmersmith7057 Am in Thailand now ,for how long I dont know.Personally I feel until we reform our system top to bottom then the future is bleak.I am late 60s but believe in looking forward, this is not my world now in a sense its for the younger generation and by and large they accept things that many people did not when I was young, thats for the better in my book.Tbh have spent a lot of time outside the UK either travelling /working so I am not at all patriotic seeing myself as a citizen of nowhere as May said-not sure if she was aware that it was Stalin who coined that phrase tho he was talking about jewish people.
Each to his own I guess , I am not here to tell people how to think tho its true you might have got that impression! Its up to the individual.

Glad to see my old country and it reinforces my determination not to return. 22 years in Thailand retired and living the dream. Miss a fish supper for sure but at 15 quid I can survive without it. Hi thanks for taking time to comment. I decided to stay for an extended time as it was my sisters birthday and as we were close to Christmas and New Year and the fact my sister will not return to Thailand as she suffers from health issues this is the reason. But I look forward to my return home. I refuse to pay almost 10 pounds for fish and chips. I go back to Thailand with a feeling I made the right decision 12 years ago as things have not improved in this time only got worse.

You were lucky and planned well to get a monthly (I gather £1,500 a month net) government fire-brigade pension.
You will feel even wealthier when you get your state pension (currently £800 per month).

I have been watching your videos for a while. I started thinking maybe you should stop telling people how nice it is. I remember when I used to travel to Bali and how nice it was. Now Ubud is full of western style stores like Pandora and it's lost some of it's uniqueness. Now I see the VISA system in Thailand is changing to appeal to those with larger bank accounts. Any thoughts on this?

    • @RetiredandLivingthedream
      @RetiredandLivingthedream  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Of course your correct telling people how nice it is will attract more people, I am trying to show people that a better lifestyle is affordable outside your comfort zone of your home country. It is true that Thailand is wanting Wealthy people to live in Thailand. They are trying to punch above their weight Thailand is for every budget rich and not so rich. Not being a wealthy guy so I can't judge on the quality of the TOP hotels but the getting around the roads, the side walks leave a lot to be desired, Wealthy people want perfection Thailand is well away from that. Thailand kneejerk 1st it was the Chinese, then the Russians and now the Indians.
Stopping or dissuading this years backpackers will stop the Retirees of the future.
Money buys a lot in Thailand but their over realistic view of what Rich people want is a far cry to what is available else where in the World.
In my view Thailand will always be a Backpackers destination and a Retirement heaven for those wanting a simpler lifestyle. Spent a month in Bali for our honeymoon we came back to Thailand one week early, Thailand was better.
      Thanks for your comment.

@@RetiredandLivingthedream As nice as Bali is you can get island fever quickly there. It is more of a spa than a destination. I was just pulling your leg a bit. I get why you want to share what you've found. I have been going to Thailand for many years myself. I travel a lot and what I like about Thailand are the options. You can have the country or city life. You can be retired or industrious. You can fly to other destinations easily. There is a lot to like about Thailand. I have had minor surgery there and I always laugh because after the surgery I was asked to visit accounting. They handed me some of my money back and said "Doctor said not so difficult" I couldn't imagine anywhere else that that would happen. Especially not here in the US. Thailand is in the top three destinations for me. Especially for retirement. I have a couple other friends who retired in Thailand. One on a farm north of Bangkok. You seem very happy where you are and I am sure I understand why. Maybe we will catch up next time we travel to Thailand. Cheers!

So when you do get your uk state pension I imagine it'll be whatever it is then (and not what it was when you last lived fulltime in uk?) and yeh chalk and cheese looking at your place in rayong. I wish you'd get back cos no matter how fond you are of redcar, I'm not 😂 Kind of serves as a warning really to make solid plans for retirement cos if you were sending these videos of you having a cup of tea and a muffin in a walled garden saying your back permanent cos thailand fell thru, I think i'd find it all too depressing to watch 😂 merry christmas (don't forget to post a christmas video of you in your santa hat).

Thanks for your comment. If everything fell thru in Thailand then I still would not return to the UK to live I love travel and would live in a Van and explore as much as I could.
My UK pension will be Frozen at the rate when I draw it. 4 years away from that now but as with everything there are legal ways to get around not getting a rise with inflation. I live a fluid lifestyle, go with the flow. What will happen will happen but one thing is for sure sitting in a walled Garden paying 6.50 for a coffee and scone with cream will never be a regular thing.

If you are on your own; have no Thai wife or Thai girlfriend, then rent for at least the first year.
If you have a Thai girlfriend, then buy a condo in her name with a mortgage in her name and pay the monthly mortgage. then it works out cheaper than renting and she will gain as well.

    • @barrydwyer2039

Rent the condo and the Thai girlfriend, then when the mood suits you can move to a different location, if your happy with the girlfriend then take her with you, if not leave her and the condo behind.
