Next time yer slaughtering them, since the regiment sucks at melee, keep the second rank ripple firing, while the front rank fire a volley and charge. That way, the melee guys keep the enemy occupied, while the ranged guys pick them off. Why ripple fire? Gives them time to pick a target before firing at the melee.
