They have no reason to, I'd love a discount as well but why discount something that is flying off the shelves, already expensive, is by far the most advanced in its category, and dominates all other manufacturers. It would just be 'something nice for the customer'. Something tells me DJI could give a f*ck about making you happy, lol

Matthew, Thank you for this video comparison between the Mini 3 Pro and Mini 4 Pro. It helped me fast track my learning curve of the Mini 4 Pro, just having lost forever my Mini 3 Pro.
The improvements from DJI are epic!
Visually being able to see the home point is huge for me! I record my hikes in the mountains, often with tall trees, and I often struggle to figure out which tree is the one I'm standing under.
I haven't quite mastered flying my Mini 3 Pro yet, so even though the Mini 4 Pro promises significant improvements, I'll be sticking with my Mini 3 Pro until I've honed my drone piloting skills to perfection 😄.
The mini 3 pro makes you a better drone flyer . Sharpen your skills with it first !! Becos it doesn’t have the side sensors , you will improve quicker when flying as you will be using Visual line of sight a lot when panning and also honing in on your throttle . I’ll be waiting for the Mini 6 pro looking at how DJI is going now . It won’t be long !!

Most of the updates come from the software. Some improvements like the gimbal cover, legs are arguable. It is interesting to hear if any software updates from Mini 4 are available for Mini 3.

Apparently the mini 3 batteries do fit but are heavier than the ones that come with the mini 4 so will take the drone weight over the 249g mark.
It looks likes the actual mini 4 drone is heavier than the mini 3 so DJI compensated by making the batteries lighter.

I asked the question through the chat option on the dji web site about batteries and filters, they said the batteries are but filters aren't, to me the front of the camera looks identical.
A few comments on here also say putting the mini 3 pro batteries in the 4 will take it over 250g as they made the 4 batteries lighter to keep it under 250g, something dji failed to mention.
I ordered one on launch day direct from DJI (Monday) and it arrived on Friday. This is my first drone with a controller screen and it does take some time to get used to, especially moving files around. However, this was simplified when I discovered plugging the drone into my PC using the USB-C cable and without powering it up, the drone is recognized as two external drives. This makes for easy file transfers. Mini 3 Pro does not do this.
This also is the first time I've bought DJI Care. I've seen a few mini 4 pro videos where people were using the advanced features (waypoint, track, etc.) where the drone crashes. I plan on trying these features too and it's better safe than sorry. Nice video by the way.

🤭Why did ya think the price was coming down ? Was waiting for the 4 pro but think I wait to see what the new laws will be once they have their meeting. The Auditors causing trouble on industrial sites may well cause a law change on weight.
I think dji is to quick to release newer version of the mini drones. The week I bought my mini 2, mini 3 was released. I sold my mini 2 recently to buy mini 3, now mini 4 is available.. what if I buy the mini 4 now, before I get used to it, mini 5 will be out. I have just decided to chil abit to see where dji is going b4 spending money. It's really annoying cos I don't have any drone now

In Europe the height limit is set to 120m on the new Mini 4 pro, no more 500m due to the new 0 Class. Is is the same in the US?

Yeah it should be released in the next 8-12 weeks. The M4P will then be considered obsolete by the consumer base.

In much the same way I waited for the DJI Action 4 to be released, I’ve been waiting for this DJI Mini 4 Pro to be released…..and in both cases, the improvements I’ve been hoping for, have in fact been added…..and more features besides. So thanks once again for this comprehensive guide to the Mini 4 Pro. Now I just need work out my financial situation for the next 6 months before making this purchase.
The new "waypoint" feature is definitely a game changer. And also the new higher fps on diff res. I'm also impressed w its variant augmented reality effects. Now it feels like i accidentally and unfortunately bought M3P last few months ago and already seemed slightly overpriced to me at that time, due to somewhat having limited and slightly underwhelming average features comparing to M4P, except camera quality. Damn you DJI. Fucc

If they make the RC 2 compatible with the MP3 it would make it ok for me to have both. The weak signal of the RC 1 is what stops me from flying so many times when I actually want to.
Sadly I just bought the M4P 5 weeks ago and wish I had known the M4P was coming out soon. I would have waited. There are some really nice features the M4P has I really like. My timing is horrible. Wish I had not even known about the M4P now.

Thanks Matthew. This looks great for many things but particularly for tracking mountain biking. Is it compatible with the original RC that I already have with my Mini 3 Pro? It looks like a software update could cover most of the new features.
How is heat management on the drone? Doing software upgrade or lengthy configuration changes (I'm slow) at home will sometimes trigger temp warnings on my mini 3 pro.
Good question. When doing an update on the Mini 4 Pro it now goes into "Eco" mode - which I think turns off some features to help it stay cooler for longer.

Thank you Matthew for the quick review. Indeed, DJI made improvements that made the same Air 3 but in under 250 grams. The only question I have left unanswered after your video: Is it compatible with Mini 3 pro's ND filters and Battery? Because I got a huge pack of ND filters for the Mini 3 pro and 3 extended batteries. Now I want to move to Mini 4, but at what cost, it needs all the new accessories?

Amazing feature set. How quickly these things have developed since they first came onto the market in 2013, with the Phantom.
10 years and we've basically got something better specced than the Military has, at 5% of the price.

Is the auxiliary light bright enough to count as the light needed while flying at night?
- Timecoding for the video would be so cool that you could use microphones that support that and easier to combine voice of multiple microphones.
- I had to send DJI Mini Pro 3 to guarantee repair without a DJI care plan, and it took 2 months to unscrew the screw, which was so tight that I didn't open it. Then when they sent the drone back, they did not package it properly. It was just loose in the package. So, I would assume that you need this care plan. ( I bought it for 2 years, but have not had to use it )
I hope these new customizations for active track get added to the Air 3.
I've literally just ordered my '4' combo set up. Yes the Mini 3 pro batteries will fit/work on the 4 but will then take the 4 above 250g. The new batteries are lighter. Hence buying combo😮
My main purpose of a drone is photography so here's hoping I'll not be disappointed 😢

From what I can see, many of the features are software improvements. SO they could introduce them to the mini3 if they wanted to. That's said there is no incentive for them to do so. Be good to see the actual weight of this. The 3 came in at 248g meaning no skin or strobe where as the 2 came in with room to spare
After watching the video, I came to exactly the same conclusion. This is an opportunity to see how good a company DJI actually are in so far as serving the drone community that use their drones. I have a DJI mini 3 pro and like you in my opinion, many of the improvements on the four version just require a software upgrade. Let’s find out what type of company they are and see if they do that. It would be nice if the drone creative contact DJI as I assume they are well able to do an express these concerns, which I’m sure will be shared by many DJI mini free pro users.
Two things. One, the rc controller has improved in the signal department. Two who gives a crap if it weights 251 grams after add ons. I’m going to fly as is without saying anything………………….why stress over it. The drone won’t know and no one else will know except you. Unless you got cops carrying scales with them and they want you to weight it for them. If that’s the case then you live in a dictatorship
Some of the improvements though, depend on processing upgrades in the '4. The '3 hardware may or may not support all of them.
I can tell you what type of company DJI is... the type that likes to sell you a new drone every year. Over the years I have bought the Phantom, Phantom 3, Phantom 4, Phantom 4 Pro 2.0, Mavic Pro, Mavic 2 Zoom, Air 2, Air 2S (released like 6 months after the Air 2!), Mini, and Mini 3 Pro. And I am probably forgetting a couple! But you have to give them credit - they relentlessly push forward the technology and the new models always have some significant improvements. At least this time we can reuse our batteries...
Yes, I think some improvements are processor related. DJI is actually pretty good about updating firmware but I never expect major new features with that sort of software update. It would be great (and I would pay a reasonable fee for it) but I don't expect it.
I'm very impressed with the extent of this upgrade. DJI have really delivered with this one. It does beg the question: how are they going to top this with the next version, as it seems to be lacking absolutely nothing now. I'd still like to see a software upgrade for waypoints on the Mini 3 Pro though. Thanks for the comprehensive review.
The camera certainly still leaves a lot to be desired. Would be nice to see a 1”+ sensor on a mini drone.

I really don’t see why they couldn’t integrate waypoints, since they are already available for hyperlapse. I’m just hoping they don’t hold it back to encourage upgrades to the 4.
@@SouthernPacificPatch They'd have to make some serious weight savings elsewhere to accommodate a gimbal with a 1" sensor. I wouldn't waste your time waiting for that to happen.

Great video, many thanks for this Matt. This looks like a significant upgrade for the Mini 2 users given thee lack of features on the Mini 2. However, I am not sure whether it would be worth it for the Mini 3 Pro guys.
If i can get some decent money for my mini 3 pro on the second hand market i will upgrade. I just love the extra security of the 360 degree sensors.
I believe DJI wants to see how sales are for the M4P first, before they make the decision to either sent out updates to the M3P units or start their process for the next gen mini's. Myself being a M3P owner, will not be doing the upgrade and either waiting for updates to come my way, or if not, to invest in the next gen unit if it meets my needs. Up here in Canada, I don't fly much in the winter months as the weather usually doesn't permit it and we're heading into that season in a month or 2 now anyways! I'll wait to see an upgrade with the sensor on the mini's to re-invest. I'm not sure why people are so star struck with the new OA. Most of the flying I see done with these Mini drones are of the casual type anyways. To each their own, but I'm waiting!

just for anyone wondering how expensive a repair might be without DJI care..... I had a broken gimbal arm, and freshwater submersion (10hrs underwater until I could retrieve) which resulted in $255 after the $65 service fee. But absolutely great service and free shipping both ways. Just got it back yesterday, and DJI threw in some free Merch. Now I have Mini3 and 4, couldnt be happier.

I realised the batteries are compatible with the 3 Pro but slightly lower in weight. This means you are allowed to put e.g. the Freewell wide angle lens including the ND filters without being over 250 g.
On the other side you aren’t allowed to fly the 4Pro with 3Pro batteries because the weight is over 250 g.
Have you weighed the 4 pro with a 3 pro battery fitted
So the ND Filters for the mini pro3 will also work on the 4?

Always good with new updates but I dont see a major reason to upgrade from a mini 3 pro to a mini 4 pro .. def if you have a mini 2 I would update to a 4 !
I agree, i see many new "software" features that they can send as update to mini 3 pro, but very small hardware improvements (ocusync 4, that dont make too much difference since we need to operate with visual line, 100 fps on slow motion and DLOG video format) the rest is software they opted to not delivery to mini 3 pro

You said you don't need to register this drone, but what if you add the longer lasting batteries which increases the weight of the drone to over 270g. Is there any restrictions or anything I have to do because now its weight has increased?

DIFFERENT filters, so no not compatible, I am going to try and... shave a bit OFF some notches on the filters (not the drone, lol) to see
I think the 3 is a fantastic first drone. I’m learning (slowly…come on I’m 71 not 17😁) to make videos that folk appear to like. I haven’t watched this video yet but I have hardly scratched the surface of the possibilities of the 3. Maybe in a year I’ll splash out on the 5😂

Great video. Do you know why? I wonder why the obstacle avoidance doesn’t work while stationary. Which means if you set the drone stationary (tripod mode POI) to capture a moving object ( ex my sailboat passing by), it will not avoid the object moving towards it. That should be fixed with an update I wish…. Cheers.
