- This video covers a short bank holiday mornig running session with my Hornby 0-4-0 "Smokey Joe" saddle tank locomotive running my reduction gearbox.
I run the puzzle two times as the first draw of the wagon cards made for a pretty basic shunt. The second draw of the cards was not much better, but I think you willget the idea.
If you are already familiar with the Inglenook Shunting Puzzle you may not find much if interest in this video, but if you are in the process of designing a small shunting layout you may want to take a peek as it may inspire you to introduce the "Inglennok Shunting Puzzle" 3-3-5 wagon length siding format into your own layout so you can run the puzzle your self.

I think Smokey Joe did extraordinarily well given the electrical limitations of the model. I guess the footplate crew was having trouble getting the boiler to draw with wet coal on a cold day. These difficulties were quite real.

Yes, it certainly adds an element of challenge and fun! Maybe you can sneak one into your good yard? Even if the sidings are too long you can just leave wagons in them to reduce the operational length, I guess.
Nice layout and enjoyable video, man. All the fumbling about with Smokey Joe made me chuckle. I like your uncoupling system - is it something you designed yourself or is it something you can buy?
Thank you. I am glad it entertained you! The uncouplers are completely home designed and crafted. They are not without fault, I need some stronger control rods as the longest rods flex too much even with braces.

I'd love to, but shrugging to find some of the shelf ones that will do the job. I don't think I can afford to go custom made. I have been trying to find a Chinese gear making company I could order a batch from.
