Lived in Sarasota for years. Took me back to my excursion to siesta beach. My favorite of Florida's beaches. Glad to ride along with you and check it out
I live in Sarasota, near Bahia Vista and Beneva, thank you for sharing this! I’m unable to get out and drive bc my car flooded and is totaled. But dry here in my neighborhood, Bearded Oaks , off of Fruitville ❤
WOW I went to Sarasota Fl. and I never left my house here in Galveston Texas. Thanks for showing me where you live. Maybe some day I will make a video and show you where I live.
Glad to see the flooding was less wide spread than the news indicated. Great solo tour. I don’t think I could hold a camera, talk, and avoid an accident. Looks like Skylar might be spending more time in the edit booth. Just kidding. You are my fav video duo.
Thanks Bob! It is quite different being out and about filming solo 😆 things that are so easy with an extra person suddenly become a challenge. Skylar had me set up with some nice attachments to make the process easier. There were definitely many areas flooded out right after the storm, but thankfully the water receded in many of those areas by the time I was out and about.
I’m glad you made it to Der Dutchman in Bahia Vista St. :) Every time I’m on Bahia Vista, I always stop at Yoder’s for a meal or to take home some pies. I think Skylar missed out on some Banana Cream pie action, next time consider giving it a try!
Mmmm Der Dutchman is sooo good. It has been awhile since we've been to Yoder's we will have to get back there. I don't think we've tried their Banana Cream yet!
Either of you considered going online and taking the FL online course for journalism/press ? Credentials often will get you access to places normal civilians cannot go. I'm sure your coverage of FL geography, weather, and such qualify. I was late for this, but enjoyed the coverage. Thanks for sharing !
Oh, that looked like such a fun, scenic trip. Just love those beaches. These videos are great! I am really enjoying seeing the "real" Flo-duh. So much calmer over there compared to here in Orlando.
All the dry areas were visited. The flooding was farther east. Wish I could see north of Bahia Vista to fruitville near Palmer and maybe Lorraine. Some parts may still be impassable but it would give us an idea of what it’s like out there right now.
On my way in through town I drove on Palmer briefly around Detwilers, but did not get to Lorraine. As I drove Bahia Vista from Cattleman to Tamiami the only road that appeared to still be closed was part of McIntosh north (although I couldn't drive on it as there were barriers). On my way out of town I drove Fruitville from downtown to 1-75 which was clear in all lanes. I hope this helps.
I'm on Phillipi creek and our place flooded like never before...been here for 24 years. Our lawn on the creek barely had a bit of flooding through all previous storms, then Debby flooded our ground floor, garage and driveway with over a couple feet of water. The main floor flooded through the toilets. She was a sneaky mean one!
I was born and raised in SRQ. I have been through many floods living there over 40 years. I was a charter captain for many years so I know the environment there like the back of my hand. If you go into the waters there anywhere, especially the beaches, you are taking your life in your hands. With all the pollution going it to the waters, yes, raw sewage including many other contaminants, you are at a very high risk of obtaining a flesh eating bacteria. You are literally taking your life in your hands. Trust me, please! Do not go into any water for the rest of the summer!
Thanks for speaking up! Some on the news as well as local influencers have been echoing a similar sentiment. Matt the welder has been speaking out about what he has observed in Hillsborough county recently on his Facebook page.
Really???? I've lived here for over 50 years. Once a Month I collect 4 gallons of BAY water off the shores of City Island to take home and Drink. I've been doing this for over a decade and have not had one single day of being sick in that time or any type of "Intestinal Distress." As a Charter Captain you should know better. No flesh eating BACTERIA is out there lurking to get anyone. I thought you were going to WARN everyone about the Rip-Currents/Tides or the Bull Shark infestations which are REAL dangers here now. The Sewage dumping has been going on since back when SWIFTMUD and it's TAXES were being imposed on us. It's all about MATH and VOLUME. You ingest more Fecal Matter from your Tooth Brush than you would ever get from swimming in Sarasota Bay.
I'm visiting and staying in Bradenton. Where was that produce stand you showed early in the video? Can you point me in the direction to any farmers markets? I was thinking about this red barn flea market I saw in a brochure
We finally made it back out to Siesta after Helene and Milton, we just posted the episode yesterday. We were happy to see a lot of businesses up and running.
I thought I saw my grandma but that was a cat. You ever hear of the lobster gigging spot down under the lido bridge. Back in the 80s I could fill up a 35 gallon string bag I rigged up. Course couldn’t eat ‘em because I’d sell them to the local restaurants. Ain’t no one doing that anymore. Lucky to find kids these days getting out of their AC
Not so sure about that. We lived in Sarasota for 7 years, and this was probably the most confusing of all the names... we've heard it commonly pronounced Bye-uh, Bay-uh, and Buh-Hey-Uh... the grass is definitely pronounced Buh-Hey-Uh, so it would make sense that's how the road is pronounced, but that was probably actually the least common we heard of the three pronunciations above.
@pault, yes, finally a comment that’s nails it. Sarasota county is on the beach. Yes it sucks, but if you don’t have flood insurance you Made a choice to gamble! Like Pasco county almost identical. I don’t have flood ins as well. Tough pill to swallow but it’s not the county or state fault if your under water..🤷🏻♂️

Sorry about your car. I am praying for everyone to have peace knowing that all will be alright in time. I pray recovery is swift.

Watching the progress of Helene right now and hope you guys will be safe 🙏
I Love Siesta Key! Glad They're Okay! Beautiful Beach & Great Fishing!
Great presentation Jamie. I canceled my trip to Sarasota (from Jacksonville). If I had seen your presentation first, I would not have.

Wao I am so glad you made this video to Lido Beach. I just have a hotel reservation for tomorrow and was good to see is not flooded!! Uffff! Thanks
Used to live right down the street from siesta key
I passed the same red Audi on my way to work on Lido today. That is so weird seeing this

Good video 👍🏻ty
Thanks for watching :)
Thanks for sharing
Our pleasure, Ultan!
If you've been to Crescent Beach or Turtle Beach since the storm, how are those areas?

Thank you for advising tourists because the politicians try to hide it.

Thank you for posting this video. Heading down soon for vacation in the area, very helpful!
We're so glad that you found the video helpful, Betty!
Yeah, Debby was definitely a rainmaker. I was on the road that night, and I saw the rain going sideways with gusts.
I'm visiting and staying in Bradenton. Where was that produce stand you showed early in the video?

Thanks again for your videos...we're looking forward to our first visit to Siesta Key 😀
Thanks for watching :) we look forward to hearing what you think about Siesta after your visit!
Siesta key is beautiful and you will love it.. great little beach town.
@@MLag23 thank you!
Crescent Beach and turtle Beach are known for flooding. You missed out another 10 minutes and you could have some good footage.
Is the water clear or brown at Lido Key beach after Debby?
Thx
How is siesta key after Helene
We finally made it back out to Siesta after Helene and Milton, we just posted the episode yesterday. We were happy to see a lot of businesses up and running.

Cant wait to move to florida
Bye uh vista? Bahia vista* buh hey uh. Like the grass that occurs naturally all over Florida. 🤦♂️

@@JamieandSkylar I'm born and raised here. I don't see why you would pronounce it any other way when those don't exist.
FL gulf is not for me coming from Big Sur, CA I need waves of an ocean 🌊 not the gulf.
Sarasota is still a dump. Too much traffic, people, bad city management, etc…
Florida sucks tho
Flooding is normal in Florida.
